Im Currently post surgery recover for the next 4 weeks plus.

I can’t do violent crime drama so night manager type stuff or Law and Order are out.

We like cozy mysteries as a family. The house is empty and dogs are snoozing.

We have worked our way through:
Madam Blanc
Mallorca files
death in paradise
hustle (bbc serious not murder) but similar ilk
Glass onion films
The good ship murder
Agatha Raisin

I have seen the Reverend Cole evensong one and wasn’t taken with it or the Father Brown one. Shetland and Vera seem a bit grim weather etc

Any ones that I have missed?? I have Amazon, Netflix, Disney etc

Any suggestions? Thank you mumsnet. (Excuse typos I had surgery on my arm!)

I liked Foyles war as this kind of thing - all series are on netflix at the moment

Alicorn1707 · 07/01/2026 14:02

This may give some clues @Holidaytrees

Possibly, Only Murders in the Building and Grantchester

FindMyPhone · 07/01/2026 14:18

I struggled a bit with Murder by Evensong but I did love Marlowe Murder Club and McDonald and Dodds.

We are fans of a good Midsomer Murders, Poirot and Father Brown… all fairly “cosy” and not visibly violent.

I also enjoy New Tricks as there’s a comedy side to some of them.

We watched that and then …after they did what they did not so much.

Is there a new series now?

Just four series.

Thanksforyourlackofthought · 07/01/2026 14:23

Murder she baked/Hannah Swenson mysteries.

MissKittyCat · 07/01/2026 14:27

Brokenwood Mysteries.

Iceshine · 07/01/2026 14:40

Murder she wrote.

TheVeryThing · 07/01/2026 14:42

Definitely recommend Death Valley and Ludwig, both thoroughly enjoyable.

Magpie Murders
Marlow Murder Club
Foyle's War

I would second Foyles War. There are 9 series on Netflix. We never watched it first time around as it was on ITV and couldn’t deal with the ads.

Another vote for Shakespeare and Hathaway on iPlayer.
Also, as a random blast from the past Lovejoy is on U. Very much of it’s time, but gentle mysteries and gorgeous East Anglian scenery

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/01/2026 14:55

Not a series, but I think the 1974 film of Murder on the Orient Express will still be on iplayer as it was on BBC2 last week. Glorious stuff.

There's only one Miss Marple for me and that's Joan Hickson in the BBC adaptations. They were all repeated last year so may also be on iplayer.

murasaki · 07/01/2026 15:01

I quite like Rosemary and Thyme when I'm ill. Blanket on the sofa, hot chocolate, Pam Ferris and Felicity Kendall, good stuff.

ibuprofenhead · 07/01/2026 15:01

Only murders in the building! Excellent and on Disney

comeondover · 07/01/2026 15:05

High Potential if you have Disney

DrLucyVanPelt · 07/01/2026 15:59

Another vote for Only Murders in the Building and High Potential, on Disney.

The Residence on Netflix also worth a watch.

Holidaytrees · 07/01/2026 16:04

Brokenwood Mysteries.

Found these a bit darker and not so cozy but maybe it was the episodes we watched!!

Only murders in the building (Disney)

Thursday murder club

tinyspiny · 07/01/2026 16:11

The Father Browns up until the last few series are excellent as is New Tricks up until Nicholas Lyndhurst joined the cast and made it unwatchable . Broadchurch was good and up until series 3 not particularly graphic . The original Lynley series is also excellent , the new version is crap .

Laurelandhearty · 07/01/2026 16:14

Murder Most Puzzling on Channel 5 with Phyllis Logan was fun.

DrEmilyCrabtree · 07/01/2026 16:27

I like Miss Fisher, Sister Boniface, DinP, Dr Blake and Murdoch Mysteries. The last is just about to start season 19 on alibi, with all the previous ones available via U player. Its Toronto based, beginning in 1895 - a detective who is scientific and intelligent in a victorian world, some good steam punk style inventions and great stories

Dawntime · 07/01/2026 17:26

Definitely Brokenwood - police drama set in a small town in New Zealand, cast of quirky locals and recurring characters. Similar feel to midsummer murders but better!
