Im Currently post surgery recover for the next 4 weeks plus.

I can’t do violent crime drama so night manager type stuff or Law and Order are out.

We like cozy mysteries as a family. The house is empty and dogs are snoozing.

We have worked our way through:
Madam Blanc
Mallorca files
death in paradise
hustle (bbc serious not murder) but similar ilk
Glass onion films
The good ship murder
Agatha Raisin

I have seen the Reverend Cole evensong one and wasn’t taken with it or the Father Brown one. Shetland and Vera seem a bit grim weather etc

Any ones that I have missed?? I have Amazon, Netflix, Disney etc

Any suggestions? Thank you mumsnet. (Excuse typos I had surgery on my arm!)

You should check out Adrian Monk. I think you'll enjoy it. I love Poirot, Columbo and Murder, She Wrote.
Grantchester?

HNY. Good health and happiness. x

All of these (apart from grantchester. Never seen it) are excellent. I’ve watched them all several times and there is no gore but a fantastic bit of riddle solving.

Astrid (Murder in Paris) - French and subtitled but really good and loads better than UK spin off.
Cooper and Fry - slightly supernatural element to the usual police detective duo makes this really interesting.

Miss Scarlet and The Duke is an easy good watch too

Sommerdahl Murders, Walter Presents (I think).
Cops in a beautiful seaside town in Denmark, lovely interiors, good-looking people etc. Quite cosy, or at least not super-gritty.

Elsbeth on Now/Sky. Spinoff from the Good Wife/Fight, with Elsbeth, who was an occasional character, now the lead. She's an eccentric/bumbling-seeming lawyer from Chicago who has fetched up in New York City and keeps getting mixed up in murders. Basically modern Columbo with a woman.

I second Death Valley as well. Surprisingly good. Tim Spall is having a whale of a time in it.

I agree with Brokenwood. Love that series.
What about The Bay and Karen Pirie - both good.

Rosemary and thyme

You can't beat the peter ustinov poirots when recovering or poorly imo. Bbc iplayer has death on the nile and evil under the sun.

I haven't seen Murder She Wrote mentioned. On 5 catchup and great TV player. Also I like the slightly mad specials with jonny Vegas and sian Gibson (Murder on the blackpool express, dial M for Middlesborough, death on the tyne). U channel player i think?

Another vote for Shakespeare and Hathaway on iPlayer.
Also, as a random blast from the past Lovejoy is on U. Very much of it’s time, but gentle mysteries and gorgeous East Anglian scenery

Is it East Anglia? I thought Lovejoy was set on Jersey, but maybe Lovejoy keeps visiting East Anglia looking for rural locals selling their antiques.

I didn’t live in E Anglia when I watched Lovejoy the first time round, but if it is I’ll have to watch again and look out for some familiar places.

Sister Boniface has been mentioned earlier. One of the things I like about it is that it often brings in take-offs of programmes at the time, like James Bond and Dr Who.

When I was recovering from surgery I watched all of the BBC's brilliant Miss Marple series with Joan Hickson

I also watched all 7 seasons of the West Wing with dd2

Murder Most Puzzling on Channel 5 with Phyllis Logan was fun.

We liked that one! The puzzle lady one.

That sounds good. Don’t have now or sky though off to see if there is a dvd

Death Valley really was good! You’ve probably seen them but the three Glass onion movies on Netflix?

I think pp is referring to the 3 "Knives Out" mystery movies - movie 2 was called the Glass Onion

.... worth it to hear Daniel Craig's deep-south, USA accent! 😂

mommatoone · 07/01/2026 22:05

Karen Pirie is good
The new Lynley on BBC is good too and he is very easy on the eye 🤣.
Hope you feel better soon.

LongTermLurker · 07/01/2026 22:06

Not TV, but I've just discovered the Charles Paris Mysteries (BBC radio plays) with Bill Nighy. Very light, really quite funny.

Laurelandhearty · 08/01/2026 07:49

I also enjoyed Poker Face on Sky, a Colombo style set up with a woman who can tell when people are lying.

Pussert · 08/01/2026 07:56

I still love watching diagnosis murder!
