Did anybody see it tonight? (Neil Jones and his partner)
I feel really sad for him actually, he comes across as lovely.
I am however picking up bad vibes from the relationship and hope I'm completely wrong tbh.

I'm glad it's not just me but equally I'm sad for him. He is obviously besotted.

I agree. Thought she desperately wanted to be ‘the star of the show’.
Talked over him every time.,

Sadcafe · 05/01/2026 09:24

She did come over as very “ looked after” and nothing was ever going to meet what she wanted house wise. But, it’s a 45 minute snapshot and probably does not really reflect how they are

Yes fair point but equally it could illustrate how it is all the time for him.
Anyway, it's up to him. It just struck me as very obvious what was happening here and I got the feeling the presenter thought the same.

Thank you for this thread OP.
I didn’t like Neil but this programme completely changed my opinion of him. I thought he was lovely, positive can do attitude and fun.
China came across as a bit of a Diva and less likeable.
I hope they make each other happy.

MissMoneyFairy · 05/01/2026 10:57

She came over as being quite bossy and not interested in having more children but he didn't seem that realistic being excited about a major project in the middle of nowhere, he's on tour, she's at home, no local shops, school, hospital or neighbours. They clearly want completely different things.

You're welcome @caramac04
Like you I wasn't keen on him, I agree with everything you say and think he is a sweetheart! I feel a bit protective of him now for some bizarre reason!

I felt sorry for Chyna. He's going to be off on tour a lot of the time or appearing on Strictly leaving her in the middle of nowhere on her own with small child and living in the shambles of his latest renovation. She's only 26 and he's 43. I did feel for him that he had been homeless but they both seem to want different things.

Sparkletastic · 05/01/2026 17:16

I watched and came away with the strong impression that the relationship wouldn’t last

I felt more sorry for him on that point. They were looking at Yorkshire for her, so she would have her family close by for babysitting etc - if that's where they end up he'll be miles away from anywhere easily accessible for his work, which I would guess is their main financial source. Like others, I wasn't previously a fan of his but thought he seemed very likeable, and felt he came over as desperate to please Chyna and does whatever she tells him.

goldtrap · 05/01/2026 18:03

I thought she was sweet and funny and quite good-natured. She's been living in a houseboat renovation for 2 years and hasn't had a proper home with him, he works away and she has a baby. She doesn't want a do-er upper. Something he seemed to totally ignore. She graciously found some nice things to say about the run down house in the face of both blokes saying 'yes, but and lol to no heating'.
Also he is really punching, so I say, girl, go live next door to your mum!

Purplebunnie · 05/01/2026 22:01

@Romeiswheretheheartis I think when they are training with their Celebs they tend to be where the Celeb's work is so that could be anywhere. He seemed to want to be in the middle of nowhere, I got the feeling she would rather live in the next town to her mom. It's not a relationship I foresee going very far

Ineedpeaceandquiet · 05/01/2026 22:05

Having no knowledge of who they were, I thought they complemented each other!

HeidiHighHoDeHo · 05/01/2026 22:35

He seems very likeable but a bit of a giddy kipper; how realistic is it really to live in a doer upper miles from anywhere when your husband works away so much. There’s rural and semi rural - and so rural just didn’t seem the right fit for all three of them.

The reason that they've moved to that part of the UK is so she can be near her family (In her words) so I think she will be getting plenty of support.

But not in the middle of nowhere which is where he wants to live. I mean I like rural but gosh the one house they looked at was really remote and he wasn't going to be there all the time. They both need to sit down and have a good rethink

I agree actually - they really need to define what it is they actually want! In the programme she said she wasn't interested in actually being outside, just looking outside through the window🙄(sort of defeats the object IMO!)

Georgiepud · 05/01/2026 23:19

I couldn't work out whether Neil was being too self deprecating in that programme. He certainly gave China the opportunity to not take his wishes seriously because she kept giving him sideways looks.
I've never rated him as a good teacher on Strictly, just the way he interacts with others.

Twinkletwinkly · 05/01/2026 23:31

I’ve always thought by the few celeb versions of this programme I’ve seen that it’s not for real. I think they’re just going through the motions acting it out as a paid assignment and aren’t actually house hunting. I wouldn’t expect any celebs would be publicising where they might be seriously house hunting.

You've got a point @Twinkletwinkly it's not exactly private is it! What great publicity for the property market!

I've never asen anyone actually end up buying anything, either celeb or the non celeb version, it's a publicity stunt.

Quite agree. I did like Neil more in this, because he wasn't acting the fool like he does in Strictly. But I find it creepy he DMed someone so much younger than him. I think she likes his fame more than him.
