The Archers - Are they setting up Helen and Oliver?

I wondered this a while ago, and have just thought it again tonight?

Or is it just me?

Wait, what? Isn't Oliver married to Caroline? It has been a while since I listened but ... he always seemed so devoted, I don't know, would he have an affair? What have I missed?

Plus, Helen is a bit miserable and sour IIRC.

I guess they do have the cheesemaking in common, but that seems like fairly barren ground for passions to flourish in.

Moodlumthehoodlum - check out the discussion board on the Archers website - www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbarchers/F2693940?thread=5561226 - I guess your instinct was right as several people seem to agree!

claricebeansmum · 11/06/2008 20:08

I thought tonight there was definitely the hint of something. A romance over cheese. Lovely.

fishie · 11/06/2008 20:11

i haven't heard any eps this week. but something has been going on with caroline and oliver anyway, what ever happened to the fostering? they are being set up for a big storyline what with the tb.

LittleBella · 11/06/2008 20:13

That would be wierd

Isn't she about late twenties and he about seventies?

i expect it is a scriptwriter's whim and will come to nothing. look at nic, all those months of intense storylines and then she just vanished.

Maybe I am making something out of nothing.

But then I thought that (again, with respect) Phil would die whilst Jill was in Devon.

I just think that we are probably due some adultery in the Archers, and as unlikely as this huge age gap is, I think its a runner.

and where is mrs antrobus?
what was all that about alice and the raf?
nigel and his drunk driving?
mr shula and his gambling addiction / horrendous debts (yes i know they remortgaged, but is that to be it?)
ruth's bosom reconstruction, or was that a public information moment??
in fact what about that bloke ruth didn't shag who promised (a la nic) to be back

moodlumthehoodlum · 11/06/2008 21:00

I AGREE fishie. Sam will be back. Undoubtedly.

Mrs Antrobus in the rest home that is occasionally mentioned.

Alice is not clever enuff to be in the RAF.

Mr Shula's ishoos surely to be revisited.

Mrs Antrobus (or the actress who played her) is dead!

Helen and Oliver??? Surely the age gap would be enormous!

paperdoll · 11/06/2008 21:33

I was desperate for David to chuck Ruth a year or so back when the Sam debacle was going on, and could not believe it when they were pulled back from the brink. What with that, and the Jenny/Brian never-quite-splitting-up scenario, it seems like nobody ever gets a divorce in Ambridge even when they blatantly should. Magically, they forgive and forget the most enormous wrongdoing every time.

I would have thought Caroline and Oliver were fairly solid though, no?

moodlumthehoodlum · 11/06/2008 21:38

I think they are, but I think his eyes might wander now he's so gloomy about the TB.

OP posts:
seeker · 11/06/2008 21:44

Isn't it bizarre that a very premature baby goes home with no complications breast feeding like a good 'un after what seemed like 5 minutes and a straigtforward breast reconstruction required months of tedious convalescence. Why couldn't they have done a public information thing about Abbie?

Bluestocking · 11/06/2008 22:00

I can't believe that they've just reinvented LETS which have existed for about a bazillion years.

fishie · 11/06/2008 22:03

exactamundo re mrs antrobus. where is funeral?
maybe they have had it at hollerton.

Bridie3 · 12/06/2008 13:15

She's not yet dead in the Archers--she's dead in real life (the actress).

time4me · 12/06/2008 20:19

Yes he is fed up over TB and for some reason she likes older men.I do think they are going to start something. She is desperate and we could be in for some eye watering listening

Teaandcake · 13/06/2008 14:04

Does anyone else think that Matt Crawford is developing Pat & Tony's pack house to distract them from protesting about the digester?
I think the digester planning will go through and Matt will just drop the pack house development.

I think I read in the Radio Times something about Lillian digging into Matt's family history and finding some sort of conflict.
Matt has previously hinted that the is a little envious of the Archer clan's closeness. Maybe he just wants to stir it up a little?

womblingalong · 13/06/2008 14:11

Sounds a bi unlikely to me,the age gap is so huge, but, who knows!

Is anyone else glad that the sanctimonious Shula got a good telling off from Alan and Usha oer the newspaper article? I was cheering at the radio!

Bridie3 · 13/06/2008 18:17

I actually felt a leetle bit fed up with Usha, tbh. Shula is a prig and tactless and sanctimonious but Alan and Usha are so right-on that I sometimes feel a bit nauseous.

whatshername · 13/06/2008 18:38

Alan's story is extremely unlikely. First he was married to a black woman. Now he is going to marry the only ethnic in Borsetshire, a woman of asian extraction.
