We had 2, a black and white portable twin the kitchen and a colour tv in the living room.

I can remember the black and white one had a dial to find the righ program ,no remote and no buttons to change channels.

What made you want to ask OP?

@OneUmberJoker starts lots of these random type threads. I don’t know where she gets her ideas from!

1 in the snug, never in the living room. Originally B&W and think we got a colour TV when we moved to the US in the early 70's.

Still only have 1.

Solaire18381 · 18/12/2025 22:25

Two, this was in the 80's/90's.

Now I only actually have one TV (did have two but one doesn't work). The fridge has a built in TV and obviously we watch things on laptops etc.

None until my dad got a colour TV to watch BBC documentary 'The World at War'. Until then, we watched Doctor Who on Saurdays on my granny's black and white.

I remember black and white Dr who programs. What an era.

1, but it was rented and only for the winter.
in summer we were expected to be outdoors

Two I think. One in the living room and one in the kitchen.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 18/12/2025 22:49

I think 2.
One in the living room, a small black and white tv in my room. I don’t remember my brother having a tv in his room.

Ladychatterly86 · 18/12/2025 22:53

We had one in the living room until mid 90s when I got my own in my room as a teenager. We then had two more in bedrooms as my siblings got older and had them in their bedrooms plus one in the kitchen.

I have two young kids and we have 1 in the living room. Personally don't like tvs in bedrooms, but may reconsider that when our kids become teens.

One, until I was about 15 and bought myself a small second hand portable for my bedroom. Now we technically have 3, although neither ds nor I ever watch anything in our bedrooms.

Mischance · 18/12/2025 22:56

None at all till I was 5, then we had one.

Wishitsnows · 18/12/2025 22:58

4 or 5 in the mid 80’s

schoolfriend · 18/12/2025 22:59

2 (one very small) 1984 baby

wendywoopywoo222 · 18/12/2025 23:00

None for us.

Wow, that sounds like a lot for the time! Was it just 4 terrestrial channels then? I guess so

Seasonal tv! Love it. I might implement it in our house by hiding the tv in March 😂

jjeoreo · 18/12/2025 23:05

2, one in kitchen on a sort of arm thing so you could turn it about. Used for ironing and when people when on the Nordic track (lol). Then one upstairs in living room. 1990-2010

Runnersandtoms · 18/12/2025 23:08

In the 80s/90s, always just one in the living room. And just the 4 channels no cable/sky. We had loads of vhs tapes though.

Never had a tv in my bedroom and still now we only have one in the living room. Teens have their laptops but mostly if we watch tv it's on the big one. And we switch it on to watch something specific then off again when it's finished. Always have done. Find it very odd the idea of leaving the telly on all the time.

Jingleasfaraspossible · 18/12/2025 23:19

One, as we still do and always have. It’s in the sitting room, but we only have it on a couple of time's a week, unless there’s a series we’re particularly hooked on.

MonGrainDeSel · 18/12/2025 23:21

One. We still have one in my adult house but obviously everyone has a phone and laptop so it's not really the same thing!
