We didn't get a TV until I was 11. It was a rented black and white TV.

This would have been in 1969.

everdine · 18/12/2025 19:08

Zero until one day when I was 15 my dad went out and bought a TV! My siblings and I were so surprised as he had never mentioned getting
one!

Sminty2 · 18/12/2025 19:17

One. Later, I picked up a very small black and white portable secondhand TV in my late teens which was in my bedroom, but I didn't buy my own one till I had my own flat.

Seawolves · 18/12/2025 19:27

None until I was about five then my parents rented one from Radio Rentals, it was black and white.

Now I have two, one in the lounge and one in my bedroom.

One b/w one until I was about 9 when we rented a colour one “in case the tube goes” 🤷‍♀️

Was amazed when I went to a house and The Clangers was on…. IN COLOUR !!!!

shellyleppard · 18/12/2025 19:28

Just the one

CatherineCawoodsbestie · 18/12/2025 20:56

We had one. A colour TV replaced the black and white one in the early eighties. First video recorder in 1989.

I am not much of a tv watcher and I only had one until I met my now wife when I was in my thirties. She loves tv, and we now have 5!!

Borborygmus · 18/12/2025 21:11

One. Exactly the same as I have now.

ClassicalQueen · 18/12/2025 21:14

We had six or seven. One for every bedroom and the rest in communal areas. This was the early 2000’s.

FlatErica · 18/12/2025 21:15

1 black and white. I left home at 18 in 1985.

thejadefish · 18/12/2025 21:18

When I was primary school age 1 in the living room. When I got to about secondary school age my parents got a small one for their bedroom too so that mum could still watch Corrie even if there was something on that Dad wanted to watch so both could watch what they wanted at the same time.

1 where you had to get up to change the channel.
When I was a bit older we got a remote controlled one and as a teen we got a C64 computer with a tv but you could only play the games on it. You couldn’t watch tv.

When I was 18 I got a tv for my room with a built in VHS as a present

Forever1973 · 18/12/2025 21:20

One for the first eight years or so, and then we had a house extension and my parents installed another one upstairs, which was rarely used. My sister brought one into her bedroom when she was 16 or so, but I didn't want one, I've never wanted a TV in the bedroom.

Currently we have one in the living room, and one in the spare room.

BeddieT · 18/12/2025 21:21

Two. We had two living rooms so there was one for my parents and then we kids had our own living room where we would fight over what to watch/play.

Marylou62 · 18/12/2025 21:22

We didn't get a TV until I was about 11.. so 1973. And still only one by the time I left home in1981. But at least that one was colour!

MiddleAgedDread · 18/12/2025 21:23

and still does

RedRiverShore5 · 18/12/2025 21:24

In the 60s we had one small rented black and white one, I don't think anyone had more than that.

In the 70s we had a rented colour one and I had a small portable in my room when I was about 16
