I thought this was going to be a new SF drama and got quite excited.

But turns out to be a Dr Who spin off, so less excited.

Cant see a thread about, so adding this.

Only review I have seen has spoilers so wont post link but this is the iPlayer link.

2 episodes this sunday, 2 the following and just one Sunday after that.

I had to bow out after the third episode.
I'm sorry, the humans are soo soo bad and we are all portrayed as white evil looking men, we are a blight on the universe unless you are a woke man with a black wife and are going to have sex with a fish.
It's absolutely woke bollocks, more of the same from the Dr Who era, I just cannot.
All the same tropes.
All the same ridiculous simplified, let's just be a happy clappy society.
Just fucking awful.

unless you are a woke man with a black wife and are going to have sex with a fish.

😂

Whomanity · 16/12/2025 11:16

I’m sorry you appear to feel that simply not being white is woke activism, @LifeSurvior.

I’d better put myself in the bin. Heaven forfend that my face should ever appear on your TV screen.

Mochudubh · 16/12/2025 16:03

I thought the Silent Witness guy was meant to be Dutch .

RT's character is split up from his wife isn't he? Anyway, I don't think it's "woke" to be in a relationship with someone of a different ethnicity.

Fish, on the other hand, I mean, does everything ahem, go in the same place? Don't females release eggs and the males essentially wank over them? Not exactly erotic.

IwantToRetire · 16/12/2025 17:17

Ooops! It was all a bit distracting for me, but did somehow work out he wasn't to be trusted, but was not sure who was behind the bomb.

I think the cliche aspect of the characters isn't about "woke" but a theme that has been consistent in UK tv for years.

Rich people bad.

People doing not highly regarded low page jobs are heros.

(which may be true!)

The only break with this decades old theme is Kate.

Am I watching a different show from everyone else?
I'm really enjoying it.

I stopped watching Doctor Who ages ago because it was just too frantic.

Mochudubh · 16/12/2025 17:47

No need for Ooops @IwantToRetire, his accent was all over the place, thinking about it he could have been meant to be South African which sounds like a bit of both (to me, anyway).

Except for when they like England flags, or Reform. Then suddenly they're not salt of the earth heroes.

Me too.
It's in no way realistic but it's a lot more enjoyable than the vast majority of TV today. I am one of the original viewers of Dr Who though, at 61 & the vast majority of TV leaves me cold these days.

We are talking about the BBC ie metropolitan values.

Which is still caught up in the post war ethos of Bevin's Britain.

I loved it binged all 6 episodes at once. It was good to see Kate and unit. I do like Russel Tovey as well.

I thought only 4 had dropped on iPlayer?
Where did you find the last 2, please?

Whomanity · 17/12/2025 10:29

Indeed. Both iPlayer and Apple TV only have the four episodes that have been broadcast on BBC 1.

Please share, @Tallestone!

Rummikub · 17/12/2025 15:45

@Tallestone but no spoilers please. I’m enjoying the story.

Whomanity · 17/12/2025 15:51

Amazon Prime has the episodes to buy. But still only the first four.

Cantonet · 17/12/2025 15:54

There's only 5 episodes ....

Tallestone · 17/12/2025 18:08

I thought it was 6.sorry was probably 4.

IwantToRetire · 18/12/2025 01:06

Seriously. Apart from the fact it is in virtually every news paper or tv web site, I spelt it out in the OP. Confused

There are 5 episodes. None are or were available until shown on the BBC.

So first sunday episodes 1 & 2

Last sunday episodes 3 & 4

Final episode (5) is this sunday.

If Salt diving into the Thames was thought to be the end of the series I think you would say they're aiming for another one. Which I suspect they probably are.

Good point. Her eggs didn’t hatch, so who fertilised them. Does she have a fish partner?

Well, that won't happen now that Disney have taken their money away. Unless they massively scale the production values back.

Omg this is so horrendously embarrassing, Im getting Lewis Calpaldi mixed up with Peter Calpaldi - I'm leaving the thread and possibly the entire internet forever.

They are cousins though. PC appears in one of LC's music videos.

I didn't know that about Disney. I wonder why? Is it too UK specific in terms of script or something, or has it had bad reviews/
