I think the difference is how much Lewis stands out @Piggywaspushed . His dance troupe were finalists in that dance show when he was 18 I believe.

Piggywaspushed · 30/11/2025 10:18

Yes, I agree Lewis is very talented. I feel a bit sorry for Lewis and Amber as they were last minute drafts. He himself as said it's insulting to actual professionals to state that he is a trained, pro dancer. He has a lot of background but hasn't danced. for 12 years

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/11/2025 10:23

It’s interesting that without Lewis and Amber, and Kristian and Dani instead, Karen would have been the most experienced

@Coffeeishot cheating going on

its not cheating as such but I find it really unfair and not a level playing field for example to pitch someone like Krishnan Guru Murthy against someone who is a West End star. And then the judges act like there’s no disparity

Edited

You are NEVER going to get an even playing field though particularly with the rise of dance gcse.

where we live so many dance schools and most of DDs friends do classes. one school has a competitive dance troupe etc it is really popular

then anyone in the entertainment business is likely to have had dance experience as well

I mean with have Scarlett Moffat in the Christmas Striclty and she definitely has experience

Clearinguptheclutter · 30/11/2025 10:25

AlwaysRightISwear · 30/11/2025 09:12

I don't believe they were actually random choices, I think either judges or production picked them.

Agree. No way would the poor woman have coped with a fast dance.

I also believe there must be some kind of fix in place for the poor woman to leave tonight with dignity as having another pullout would be super awkward. Hope they pull it off!!

i’m now putting my money on Karen to win. I love her and how she’s grown with the competition, ditto Carlos

Lewis is def the best dancer and he deserves a place in the final, but I doubt he’ll actually win

Bal has had a brilliant run, but will surely go next week assuming Alex goes this week

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 30/11/2025 10:25

Well it did seem a little odd that each contestant randomly picked a different style of dance, and that Alex got the most gentle one for her, given her current fitness, so I did wonder if that part of the instant dance thing was predetermined; the picking of envelopes was just to add to the suspense. The important thing for me was that the couples obviously didn’t know what they were getting, so in that respect they were all put on the spot. I hope they do it again next year.

gingercat02 · 30/11/2025 10:26

I don't really care about dance experience but do feel people who actually dance for a living like Layton and Amber probably shouldn't be allowed.
However it's really difficult where you draw a line. If they all were complete amateurs the show would be terrible. I think the judges are the most annoying but tbh. Apart from Craig, they over or under mark randomly.
It would be impossible but they need a handicap scoring system 🤣
I can see the programme not surviving the post Tess and Claude reboot. I'm much less engaged than I used to be and lots of presenters i just wouldn't watch.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/11/2025 10:29

I think I feel like that @Tiswabecause it started out as a “learn a skill” show and it was more equal footing back then and it’s been diluted over time and I’ve been watching since the beginning

OP posts:
EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/11/2025 10:30

see the programme not surviving

I agree, I’m sad to say

Great show, loved Lewis, George, Amber and Karen this week. Instant dance was a hilarious car crash. Poor Alex I’m actually hoping she doesn’t get sympathy/empathy votes as I think she’s ready to leave.
I thought Amber had injured herself when she went down in the splits her face froze a moment and Nikita looked concerned too.
Alex and Bal in do with Alex leaving
The final will likely be Lewis and Amber with George or Karen. My preference would be Lewis George Karen. I’d like George to win but only if he improves a little bit more.

Good point!

That's not my point to be fair. What I actually think is that Shirley got her wrists slapped for her comment about Karen's posture in about week 3. Carlos is still clearly upset about it. Shirley is now over compensating by gushing about Karen's performances but in so doing wants to suggest she has had some part in a transformation story.

You yourself coffee might point out how no such gushing occurs over Balvinder .

Shirley gushed over Balvinder after her instant dance last night and on It Takes Two Shirley was really complimentary about Balvinder almost "gushing" , I don't know why it is irking you so much.

Coffeeishot · 30/11/2025 10:37

I just don't understand what people want they are either to good to bad too disabled for strictly, it confuses me that people just don't watch it at face value, it isn't just on this thread tbf the comments on social media are much worse.

I agree, it's just enjoyable Saturday evening entertainment.
I've been a bit ☹️ at the number of conspiracy theories on these threads and how down some people have been on certain competitors. It seems worse this year? According to some, everything is set up, the producers' decision, suspicious, "convenient" etc
If Karen has had some dance training, I don't really care!

Piggywaspushed · 30/11/2025 10:48

I have no conspiracy theories at all. I just like watching good dancing. I'm not bothered about their backgrounds at all. I really like Karen and have voted for her many times. The only reason I commented at all is because others often seem so bothered by dance backgrounds.

I dont watch the spin off so haven't seen Shirley gushing.

Coffeeishot · 30/11/2025 10:48

I agree just enjoy it for what it is, I honestly don't care if Lewis was on a sky dance programme .

Coffeeishot · 30/11/2025 10:51

I meant to answer a poster who was asking after Karen Hauer, I saw on social media she wasn't well this week so she was probably off sick.

Twonewcats · 30/11/2025 10:51

FrothyCothy · 30/11/2025 01:40

The instant dance was all dances they’d done before wasn’t it? So of course some looked more polished and rehearsed than others as they remembered it better and performed it better the first time they did it.

Yes, they were styles they had danced before. However, if they just use a pre-choreographed snippet from an old routine, it defeats the entire point/spirit of the challenge. Karen, Alex, Bal and George seemed to do it as it was intended - ie, as Shirley said, they wanted to see them trusting their partner and leading them/taking their lead.
Knowing you'll be doing x, y or z section from a previous dance isn't "instant" or a challenge

RhododendronFlowers · 30/11/2025 10:55

I thought it was absolutely bonkers and very entertaining! When they rushed to get the costumes and dashed behind those curtains! I love that they went for it on live tv 😄

ApolloandDaphne · 30/11/2025 10:59

I loved that the changing area looked like Dorothy Perkins communal changing area circa 1988! Clothes strewn everywhere.

It did! I remember that! 🤣 Happy days

ApolloandDaphne · 30/11/2025 11:01

Claudia will be so missed when she goes. She is an absolute joy.

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 30/11/2025 11:03

I didn’t want Lewis to get top marks because he had practised what to do with Katya. I clearly heard he say it. I know that’s not against the rules but I don’t vote for them partly for that reason. Plus he is a ringer. He was in a dance troupe and came second I think in a tv competition.
Last night was the first time that George had shown any hint of a personality and I was howling when he went straight for the red fur coat.
I usually give mist if my votes to Alex but only gave her 2 vote yesterday as she looked injured and seemed to want to leave the competition.
Alex was given the short straw yesterday. The hardest dance to improvise plus having to go first so far less time to come up with a plan. The quicker dancers are much easier to improvise on. You just can’t get the energy vibe with a rumba.
I voted for Alex, Bal ( absolutely loved the improvised paso) Karen & Amber. Nikita’s outfit should have scored extra marks. I’ve seen his live show and what you see on strictly is his real personality.
I loved how it was all the men who were grabbing the most sparkly, vibrant clothing they could lay their hands on.

RhododendronFlowers · 30/11/2025 11:03

I think Tess is under rated, but steering live tv like that, sometimes for about 2 hours is quite a skill.

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 30/11/2025 11:05

Yes I agree Tess is very good at what she does. I said upthread that I love Claudia though. Love her on this and the Traitors. They will both be hard acts to replace.
