I really felt for Alex and agree she may have just had enough and be in pain and exhausted.
George was excellent, really stylish and characterful. Wish they'd give him grown-up dances and costumes every week; he seems happier in them than doing the 'yoot' thing.
I liked Balvinder! She had good kicks and good leg action. Excellent acting too.
Karen was fabulous, although I don't really like that type of dancing. I'm getting 'winner' vibes from her and Carlos already.
Lewis and Katya's was a bit of a contempowaft. Interesting that the judges didn't comment on that whereas they did on George's similar rumba.
Didn't much like Amber. I'm sure she went wrong near the beginning, and her style is too balletic, light and not into the floor enough.

Instant Dance came across to me as a lame attempt at livening Strictly up and making it into an 'adventure' type show. The silly little screen at bottom right showing them running to the changing rooms Confused
Didn't get the little skit of Claudia 'helping' them with their costumes either; I mean, I get that she was probably briefed to make sure they picked something vaguely suitable for the dance, but as entertainment it fell flat.
However, I LOVED Balvinder; never seen her so ferocious. I think she feels she's got nothing to lose.
No one else really stood out for me. I was annoyed that Lewis still had those wild uncontrolled kicks in his jive but the judges didn't mention them, despite critiquing them first time round.

I think it's likely it'll be Alex and Bal in the DO and they'll save Bal, unless Alex miraculously remembers all her steps and gets some painkillers and an adrenaline shot. But possibly Alex and Amber, depending on how the voting goes. I'd love to see the audience vote from last week.

EDITED for typos and to add in about the clothes selection, which I forgot to say.

She was a teenager though like lots of kids they did dance classes and sometimes competed, I don't think Karen has ever professed to be a novice.or never danced before. She has been transparent that she did dance as a teenager, people are a bit obsessed about a Saturday night telly programme like it is a dance championship and there is "cheating" going on.

I never said it was cheating. I was just saying that she didn't just enjoy dance - she trained and competed. Which is definitely a step above enjoying. There are so many ppl on bluesky who rave that she is SO good for an absolute beginner. That seems to be the general concensus.

One of my sons was a drummer from ages 5 to 17. He had biweekly lessons and performed in a band twice a year in late primary/early secondary. He doesn't earn a living at it and has switched to guitar now. But if he were to enter a band/music competition, he would have a decided advantage from those early years.

I actually love Karen's level of experience. She's not a dud and she's not on Lewis' level. Perfect mix. BUT she does have experience.

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit@Piggywaspushed
Annabel Croft?
I do remember pps saying AC’s dance experience didn’t count for much, she gave up when she was 12 etc (if I’ve got that right) but ballet is a very strong discipline, she did it for many years, and although she wasn’t a ringer in the Lewis/Amber category, the training she had would’ve served her well on Strictly. No beef about that either btw, I liked her and voted for her all the way.

According to at least two ballet teachers I know quite well, a lot of young dancers decide to give up ballet when they hit about 11-12. Because that's when the level of difficulty takes a leap and strong discipline in the training starts to kick in. Until then, it's just a fun hobby.

I also have a friend who has done ballroom dancing for decades. She now does an adult ballet class and finds it tricky because everything is so different, weight placement, feet, arms, positions of the body, turnout, the lot. So doing ballet classes as a kid is not necessarily going to give anyone an advantage on Strictly.

Twonewcats · 30/11/2025 10:51

Yes, they were styles they had danced before. However, if they just use a pre-choreographed snippet from an old routine, it defeats the entire point/spirit of the challenge. Karen, Alex, Bal and George seemed to do it as it was intended - ie, as Shirley said, they wanted to see them trusting their partner and leading them/taking their lead.
Knowing you'll be doing x, y or z section from a previous dance isn't "instant" or a challenge

Agree. That's also why they changed the music.

I just don't understand what people want they are either to good to bad too disabled for strictly, it confuses me that people just don't watch it at face value, it isn't just on this thread tbf the comments on social media are much worse.

Agree on the anti disabled point. Terrible comments about Ellie including on these threads, unfortunately ableism isn’t as easily recognised as racism and homophobia and so people get away with it. I could have called it out but people are so blinkered when it comes to ableist prejudice that the majority would probably have disagreed with me that it was ableist even if it met clear definitions. I also didn’t want to derail the thread but I was quietly furious.

I loved that the changing area looked like Dorothy Perkins communal changing area circa 1988! Clothes strewn everywhere.

😂😂

EsmaCannonball · 30/11/2025 11:31

I did dancing until my mid teens. Got to the point where theatres were asking me to audition for musicals and panto but gave it up because I was at a very academic and demanding school and the two things were completely incompatible. I would be terrible on Strictly.

cordelia16 · 30/11/2025 11:35

I love Tess and Claudia, and I think they're irreplaceable.

Claudia has that rare gift of being funny and spontaneous without making it about her. And I love her warmth with all of the contestants.

But she has never denied this, i know Carlos in his emotional state she never danced etc etc but Karen didn't agree with him.

Your son being a musician and entering a competition isnt comparable to a TV programme. .

I enjoyed the chaos of tonight - particularly Nikita’s trousers, George’s coat and Lewis and Katya’s mismatching outfits Grin
Can someone explain what prior dance experience Karen has?

George taking the red coat was very funny .
He was having a ball . Alexis telling him to get rid of the coat was priceless
Really enjoyed the instant dances , really livened up things

I’d like to see Karen having a go at a waltz or a foxtrot. In fact I’d like to see more of those dances generally.

Was it explained why Motsi and Shirley changed places ?

It was funny about the cushions though! 😅

I meant a band competition programme on TV (similar to Strictly, if my son were well known enough to be on it).

Anyway, we obvs see this differently and won't change each other's minds, so I'll just go and enjoy my Sunday.

I really hope Karen makes it to the final.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 30/11/2025 12:26

@taxi4ballet
When I danced for about 12 years as a child, the stages were determined more by ability than age, so there was no particular age when the level took a leap, it depended which grade students were on. My experience was that even as a fun hobby you learn a lot about rhythm, not to mention the way you develop a good posture, muscle tone, strong core, flexibility etc, all of which help enormously with any type of dance later on.

More recently I did a few ballet classes as a fat, not very fit fifty-something, and still had an advantage over the absolute beginners; the class teacher said she can spot previous experience a mile off, and I have to say I agree with that.

PoorOpie · 30/11/2025 12:34

i would love the DO to be between lewis and amber and amber to go.
she annoys me as she is soooo fake.

Walkingnotrunning1 · 30/11/2025 12:48

Watching last night I thought maybe JoJo seemed a bit 'off' not his usual self at all. I thought it was anger at first but I think he might be really worried about Alex. I also think that he could be quite a empathetic person so maybe he is picking up on Alex's mood.
I agree with most here she is likely to be in the do I actually wonder if they may just do away with it this week rather than put her through the charade.
I hope she can look back on SCD in a few weeks and see the amazing thing she has done.

RhododendronFlowers · 30/11/2025 12:51

JoJo is very sensitive and he's built a lovely relationship with Alex, so he was probably concerned about how fatigued she is.

Baffling why would someone think that, let alone write it.

Yip imagine a "ruined vibe" i also reported it,

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/11/2025 13:20

@AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta And there was plenty of sneering that she would just win or make the final due to disability which of course didn’t happen..there were also a lot of disingenuous comments about coping particularly that she would never be in a dance off as she couldn’t cope. Also untrue
