But then I do quite like rugby. I knew he was "a character" in the England and Harlequins teams, and I knew he'd been open about his mental health struggles and I knew he'd recently retired from international rugby. He's one of those players whose name crops up a lot in the commentary because he's always involved in stuff. Dark arts of the scrum etc.

In his quest to have a post rugby career he needs to watch out he doesn't get over exposed and viewers end up sick of seeing him everywhere. Joe, if you're reading, that is my advice.

WestwardHo1 · 03/11/2025 14:06

Though I'm not altogether convinced about the idea of him hosting the very wholesome One Show. He'd have to delete a lot of his Insta content 😁

SmallAngryPenguinWoman · 03/11/2025 14:08

I'm pretty sure Joe M was on House of Games, that's where I learn about lots of people I don't know.

butimamonstersaidthemonster · 03/11/2025 14:26

I really dislike Joe. I think he comes across so aggressive and antagonistic.

JoeMarlerseyes · 03/11/2025 14:34

i had seen Joe on other things. never heard of Cat, Nico or Ruth.

matresense · 02/11/2025 14:45

I didn’t totally get why cat threw Jonathan under the bus. There were 7 of them left and 3 were traitors, with a banishment and a murder to go. The 3 traitors wouldn’t have had to do that much to split the vote for Jonathan - Kate might have gone with David. Then they would have had 3 in the last 5. Obviously, not the finale that the producers would have chosen, but quite entertaining as a one off to watch the panic! Cat didn’t actually have to tell Joe that she was going with him and Celia; she could have said she had Jonathan or David in her sights and would watch them closely to the round table. And frankly it would not have mattered breaking her promise if they’d got away with it and banished David or Kate.

She had already said she believed in the Big Dog theory but got it wrong with SF. People were already accusing JR and the heat was on him. So if she hadn't followed the way the wind was blowing, and voted for someone else, it would have been suspicious. She had to do what a 'faithful' would have done in those circumstances.

WatchThisGladys · 03/11/2025 15:24

I hadn't heard of Niko, Ruth, Cat or Joe M.

MrsMitford3 · 03/11/2025 15:26

I had never heard of Nico, Cat, Ruth, Tameka and only David vaguely but would not have been able to pick him out of a line up!

You are not far wrong there

during a match against Wales. He was sidelined from the game for 10 weeks after grabbing opposition captain Alun Wyn Jones' testicles in 2020.

matresense · 03/11/2025 17:04

@barskitsyes I agree it would have been suspicious, but it wouldn’t have mattered at all if cat was under suspicion if she, Jonathan and Alan had got someone, anyone, else out at the round table. Because then it would be game over. I think that if Cat had waited a beat and let it play out just a bit more and made encouraging noises rather than going for it herself it wouldn’t have been a foregone conclusion that Jonathan would have gone out. I mean, David voted elsewhere, so it only needed Kate to wobble (even if she voted for Alan or cat themselves) and they’d have been home and dry!

Mathematically and tactically, I think it wouldn’t have been that hard to have a discussion engendering a David/Alan/Jonathan split between Celia, Joe, Nick and Kate.

I think that this scenario where 3 traitors get to the end would have been a slam dunk if they’d chosen to murder Nick over Lucy and a piece of me wonders whether they were prevented from doing that by the producers.

This is interesting- we have discussed Joe's "hero edit" on this thread- and I think the BBC are using it to give him a soft launch and now everyone loves him.

Genuine question-who on this thread had heard of him before? I had because we watch rugby but def not a household name.

https://x.com/the_traitors_/status/1985329355413733434

Yes definitely heard of him but we are rugby fans. Was one of the huge names in there for me, and not really surprised by how he has been in the castle.

The Traitors quite often shows unexpected people as being good judges of character. Nick and Joe aren't bad. The best US one i saw was one of the Real Housewives (used to dealing with intrigue/gossip/fakery maybe?). The least astute judges of character can be the 'clever' ones, or maybe we just expect more from them. David hasn't really caught on to any of the Traitors, and neither did Stephen.

Choux · 03/11/2025 17:28

I think the producers want a faithful win. Good clean money for charity rather than underhand dirty money won by traitors. Because no way would you murder Lucy when you could have killed Nick.

gingercat02 · 03/11/2025 17:38

I wonder if the money will just go to CIN no matter who wins, it's the BBC charity and roughly the right time of year.
It would save any unfairness.
I know Joe M from rugby but he's also been on The Wheel etc

JoeMarlerseyes · 03/11/2025 17:43

I hope it doesn’t go to CIN, I would rather it went to a charity of the winner’s choice

They may all have “coincidentally” chosen CIN…

But I agree with you, and I’d like it if they chose smaller charities where the donation and publicity could make a real difference.

Surely they can’t because Joe Marler is an ambassador for CALM, Tom Daley is for a Brain Cancer Charity etc so it would be clear.
they can say it was always agreed that is where it would go

Choux · 03/11/2025 22:57

I read each celeb got £40k from the Beeb. Was that for them personally or for their charity? Really all these celebs getting to take part in one of the biggest shows of the year which is massively benefiting some of them publicity wise should be doing it for free and all £40k should be for charity but I bet it isn’t.

Paying 19 celebs a total of £760k so someone can win c£100k for a charity of their choice is not really good optics for the BBC or the celebs.

I'd heard of him. We'd watched him on Richard Osman's House of Games and I couldn't stand him on that. He wore shorts all week and I felt as though he was quite a sneery person. Apparently Richard had put Joe's name forward for the Traitors. I wasn't pleased at that, but he's surprised me, I quite liked him.

Other players seem to have been popping up on other programmes, Tom Daley on the knitting one, Joe Wilkinson on Bakeoff Extra Slice, Cat on Strictly and Ruth Codd in Small Town, Big Stories

It's entertainment, which we are all enjoying. The charity part is just a bit of a side bonus. I think the BBC would think it's well worth the money for such great viewing figures.

Well yes they get paid, it's a job, they are entertainers. They get paid for Strictly, IACGMOOH, DOI, the Wheel, Weakest Link etc too.
The charity money is a nice bonus for the charity.

Of course they got paid they spent time filing and working on something which is their job. They did their job and then did it well. Claudia probably got paid an awful lot more and production crew less.

Given the viewing figures I am fairly certain it is worth it

and what I do like about the bbc is they tend to pay out the same across the board - I’m a celeb won’t be like that at all

I sort of agree but it’s their job so sort of need to be paid. I wouldn’t work for free. That’s volunteering which I tbf I did used to do.

Exactly! They're paid to do their jobs. I like the fact they all get the same, levels them.
Reportedly Colleen Rooney got paid £1.5m for I'm a Celebrity....

And I'm pretty sure 40k is a big deal to the likes of Niko, Ruth and Cat.

I don't think anyone should ever work for free, entertaining people is literally their jobs. They can choose what they want to do with the money - charity or a new kitchen, whatever they like!

And I love that they all get the same. 40k doesn't sound too unreasonable for a few weeks' work.

It also said that the standard Traitors series pay £100 expenses per day, I think that's the usual for reality shows.

I think all the Celebrity Traitors contestants had to commit to a fortnight, even though many would obviously be there for much less time, and got the flat fee of £40k on thst basis.

Yes, I absolutely imagine Ruth would welcome that kind of money. Niko I imagine makes a pretty healthy living from his YouTube channel. Not sure about Cat — hard to make money as a musician now unless you’re gigging.

I didn’t know her music at all before she appeared on Traitors. I’ve listened to ‘Go’ and a couple of other songs on YouTube. I’m not sure what I was expecting, other than that her speaking voice indicates that she would have a beautiful singing voice, but the songs and videos are so much more angsty, snarky and nakedly emotional than the very composed, rather blank, very neutral young woman thst she presents as on tv.
