Ross and Rachel

Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell's characters in Four Weddings and a Funeral. Why would he turn down Kristen Scott Thomas for her??

ohyesido · 19/10/2025 19:02

Haley and Dylan. I wanted Haley and Andy

Minniliscious · 19/10/2025 19:03

Adam and Ayla Corrie - to quote Chandler “I’ve seen custards with more chemistry”

Dexter and Emma in One Day.

I still hate that book - it was so hyped up but was unbelievably appalling.

OMG, I couldn’t agree more! Absolute arseholes, the pair of them. Possibly only marginally worse than Edward and Florence in On Chesil Beach though. They bored me to death, they must have bored each other too.

I hated On Arsehole Beach as well... such a shame, given the fact that Ian McEwan turns out some really good stuff. Totally agree! All the shedding of 'silent tears'... sort yourselves out!

Pearl and Howard

Cathy and Heathcliff

George and Mildred

How very dare you, Jeffrey and Ann were clearly far worse, the snobs.

Luna6 · 19/10/2025 19:17

Monica and Chandler. She had much more chemistry with the Tom Sellick character.

Shitmonger · 19/10/2025 19:18

Ron and Hermione. That was probably the biggest disappointment of my literary childhood. I could never understand why she wanted to depict the brilliant, ambitious, intelligent girl settling for the guy that not only wasn’t on her level but also that regularly treated her like crap. What sort of example is that setting for girls?? Not to mention that they were all 17 at the end of the series and none of them needed to be pairing up for life at that age. Hmm

Thankfully I have a brilliant father who read the books because I liked them and told me in no uncertain terms that Ron wasn’t good enough for Hermione, didn’t treat her with respect, and that I should never settle like she did. Gotta love my dad. 😁

I’ve just noticed this is in the television section but Harry Potter has been made into so many different types of media at this point that it fits anywhere.

NewAgeNewMe · 19/10/2025 19:18

DaveCoaches and Gwen. Don’t believe it for a second.

They’re a couple IRL now! I think they’re still together anyway.

Robin & Vicky in Robins Nest, he should’ve married Chrissy in Man About the House.

I can't believe I forgot about them! You are absolutely correct - dreadful, wooden, couple.

Heathcliff and Cathy.

Yes and also Cathy and Linton.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 19/10/2025 19:36

Buffy and Spike.

He was an obsessed stalker, she was using him throughout. And it culminated in an attempted rape.

All of her relationships in the show were bad for her, but that was the worst.
