Backlog of 9pm series recorded but not watched - any of them worthwhile

Partly because I was making use of a streaming service sub running out, and being really disappointed with the 9pm slot series (apart from Blue Lights - just brilliant) not sure whether to delete all, or watch some.

And the one line descriptions dont inspire.

If anyone has time, would you recommendation any of these:

Coldwater
The Guest
One Night
Under the Bridge
In Flight
The Narrow Road
Bookish
Insomnia
The Last Anniversary

Thanks

The Guest - yes, watch
One Night- yes, watch
In Flight - good but not as good as the above ones
Under The Bridge - I thought that was really good
Insomnia - good but odd and not as good as the ones above
The Last Anniversary - yes, watch

I wasn't a fan of Coldwater

Not watched the others so can't comment on them

isitmyturn · 12/10/2025 21:41

I have had most of those lined up and gradually deleted.
Didn't like The Guest or Bookish. Not got round to the rest.

daffodilandtulip · 12/10/2025 21:46

Coldwater no
The Guest yes
One Night yes
Under the Bridge ok
In Flight yes
The Narrow Road
Bookish
Insomnia yes
The Last Anniversary yes

Think bookish and The Narrow Road are both war period so I don't like those personally.

daffodilandtulip · 12/10/2025 21:47

Borderline is good too, similar to your list

Cheese55 · 12/10/2025 21:48

Cold water is worth it. Deleted In flight and Insomnia as 1st episode didnt grab me.

NikkiPotnick · 12/10/2025 21:51

Couldn't finish Coldwater. It seems quite Marmite.

Dippythedino · 12/10/2025 21:56

Not seen any of the above but can recommend the woman in cabin 10 on Netflix.

WaffleParty · 12/10/2025 22:02

Coldwater is rubbish - don’t waste your time.

Snappyteabread · 12/10/2025 22:20

Guest was dull

HotTiredDog · 12/10/2025 22:27

Bookish was quietly addictive, in a quaint & slightly surreal way!

IwantToRetire · 12/10/2025 23:08

Thanks so much.

I often record (to wizz through ads and bingewatch) and at the time think that looks interesting.

And then when I realise I've got all the episodes it doesn't look as inviting.

But will take up recommendations.

(Have just remembered I started Bookish but it was a bit too pleased with itself, its "cleverness".

Give me a straightforward story line with twists and turns.

The narrow road is quite a difficult watch, I had to stop after 2 episodes. There is a torture scene in episode 3 or 4 that is apparently so traumatic it will remain with you.

Agree. I ffed a lot. Would not watch live.

ButterPiesAreGreat · 13/10/2025 23:24

Coldwater - I lasted one episode.
Under the Bridge - ok. Harder to watch because it’s based on true events.
The Last Anniversary- I liked it.

Same here! I stuck with The Guest but it wasn't worth it. DP likes Bookish so he is continuing to watch it. Disappointed to hear Coldwater isn't good, though I only recorded it because I used to be a diehard Walking Dead fan and loved Rick! I've deleted loads recently but have now added some of them back to my watchlist...

IwantToRetire · 14/10/2025 01:15

Just to say thanks again, and will be using responses.

But am now bingeing on Riot Women!

Thanks for the warning. I think I'll give that one a miss.

NameChangeForThisQuestionOnly · 14/10/2025 01:45

The Narrow Road to the Deep North is incredibly powerful and definitely worth watching. Yes as the post above says, there is a very traumatic torture scene included, and you may wish to not watch that scene. I did watch and it has played on my mind. I forced myself to keep watching as the programme (the book) is based on real events and my grandparents lived through some of the same - they had to bear it in real life so I made myself bear the dramatised version. The main storyline outside of the war is a beautiful love story.

Deeprug · 14/10/2025 03:50

Coldwater
The Guest
One Night

Dont bother

Netaporter · 14/10/2025 05:51

your list:

Coldwater - mad, but I enjoyed it.
The Guest - loved it, drive myself mad trying to buy Eve Myles’ green velvet suit 😂
One Night - was on some time ago on another channel, also enjoyed it.
Under the Bridge - not seen
In Flight - gave up (and I watch absolute shite so that probably tells you all you need to know)
The Narrow Road - enjoyed it. Was very powerful.
Bookish - not watched.
Insomnia - enjoyed it, love Vicky McClure
The Last Anniversary - loved it.

I’d add if you like The last anniversary, try The newsreader and scrublands (both bbc4) and The offer, fake and bay of fires on ITVX.

cariadlet · 14/10/2025 05:57

Out of the list, I've only seen The Guest. I enjoyed it although it went from very believable to quite preposterous as the series went on.

Sandyshandy · 14/10/2025 05:59

The Guest was quite fun, probably one to binge rather than ponder though.

Middlemarch123 · 14/10/2025 07:27

Glad to read all your comments about Coldwater, I was really looking forward to this because of the cast, but I didn’t even manage to finish the first episode. Thought it was just me.

DataColour · 14/10/2025 08:35

I found Coldwater to be absolute rubbish. I gave up half way through and I've never given up on a TV series. I found all the characters unlikeable with no redeeming features and nuance. I started watching it for Indira Verma, as she's done some good stuff previously.
The Last Anniversary was good. The Guest , was just OK, did struggle to remain interested.

Lilington · 14/10/2025 08:37

I thought In Flight was very predictable and dull.
Shame as I really like the lead actress.
