Starting this early because I have things to do. Please come here when the other thread fills up!

I never understand the whining about previous dance experience. No one ever says this about sports people doing other sports. A tennis player will make a good golfer because of the hand eye coordination. When SoccerAid is on, no-one minds that some of the celebs were once footballers in non-league or lower leagues.

its like people see dance as one homogeneous thing, but see sports as separate entities.

Not the tedious "their" again. There's only one of him! He's a bloke however he's dressed. He has every right to have a "persona" if he wants to, but we dont have to buy into it.

Edited

This shows my poor education. I was using 'their' or 'they' for a singular person when I didn't want to define gender back in the 1970s 1980s. I thought it was quicker than 'he or she' and was great if you were knee deep in a mystery story when the murderer was unknown and could be either sex.

But my education was abysmal and I am mainly self taught in grammar. Now I know.

maybe she wants to be treated the same as everyone else.

Yes I agree. Hopefully she'll build stamina.

Kreepture · 29/09/2025 15:17

if people can't shush about properly pronouning La Voix, these threads are going to get very boring and very tedious.

We're aware that the actor is Male, he is quite open about it and rehearses as male. However, La Voix is a character/persona and we can call her She if we see fit.. or even They. We don't need your persona politics or feelings about Drag as entertainment correcting us every fucking time.

Give it a damn rest.

You don't have to bring it into the thread either. People are entitled to whatever views they want to hold but I for one don't want to see them promoted on the Strictly threads.

JellyBeanSpring25 · 29/09/2025 15:21

If Shakespeare was happy to call men when playing female character roles “she/her”, that’s good enough for me.

Chrysanthemum5 · 29/09/2025 15:42

Maybe we should just agree some people will use female pronouns for la Voix and some will use male, and since none of us are actually la Voix in real life the pronouns don't matter

LittleBitofBread · 29/09/2025 16:16

I am all over the FWR threads on here, own an 'Adult Human Female' T-shirt, buy Roisin Murphy merch and John Boyne books, you name it.
But I don't care about what people want to call La Voix on here. He isn't a man who insists he's a woman. He's clear that he's a man, he just has an act that's female.
And I agree it will get very tedious if people keep coming on just to 'correct' how other people are talking about him.
Context, people.

Yep. Similar here. I agree with you.

Please don't police what some women want to call a man who dresses as a woman in an exaggerated and ridiculous way.

Womanface is abhorrent to me, and I'm not calling this bloke "she" when he has a dress and lipstick on, and "he" when he's rehearsing.

No. Not happening.

That's completely different.

There were no women actors back then.

'But I don't care about what people want to call La Voix on here. He isn't a man who insists he's a woman. He's clear that he's a man, he just has an act that's female'

I agree that this is the important point

They/their has long been used for the singular in English for exactly this purpose - where sex is unknown or intentionally obscured for dramatic or real life reasons eg protecting witness identity in a court case or a whistle blower case. Also in training manuals designed to be used by both sexes. You are entirely correct in your use.

Chris Dennis is a man, to the best of my knowledge he also identifies as a man. The character he plays is a “female character as portrayed by a man". Unsurprisingly on an entertainment thread people will talk about he (Chris) and she (La Voix) and they interchangeably. I don’t see the big deal with that.

I would care if spaces for women competitors were taken by biological men but currently strictly is struggling to get women celebs to sign up at all, seemingly for a very different set of “patriarchal society” reasons.

Many of us are happy to when he's in character and that's our choice.

You call him what you like, what i'm asking you and others to give a rest, is replying to everyone using 'she' that he is a man.

So why don't you just not discuss him/her and let everyone else use the pronouns they choose?

I find Thomas Skinner repellent both politically and in choices he's made in his life but I'm not going to come on here and scream at people who like him.

It's incredibly tedious having someone police everyone whose views aren't in accordance with theirs.

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 29/09/2025 17:29

I really like the atmosphere this year. They all seem like nice and fairly genuine people, with one exception that I hope will be out this week.

I love La Voix's wit. Usually VTs are dry filler but I'll look forward to hers, and to her comebacks to the judges.

I am uncomfortable both with the patronising of Ellie (a la Shirley) and how much she was struggling on Saturday. I hope it was her decision to stay on camera.

Motsi looked bloody amazing.

Coffeeishot · 29/09/2025 18:18

@ArtTheClownIsNotAMime Ellie made a statement on her instagram saying she was fine and the day was long but she was enjoying her experience and that sometimes her eyes water but she wasn't upset.

I really hope that nothing seedy or problematic crops up this year, and it just runs smoothly.

I saw another reference to that upthread but don't find it very believable.

Well she said she had a long day so she wasn't lying, I assume there is procedures in place if she isn't coping and her mum will have been there for her, she has a developmental disability she might not present as we think she should and might not be able to smile and look happy all the time like the rest of the cast. That doesn't mean she isn't supported.

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 29/09/2025 19:03

Okay, we can each have different opinions. I think there is no doubt she's enjoying many parts of the experience very much and having a blast overall.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 29/09/2025 19:08

Ultimately, the Strictly threads SHOULD be about the dancing. I appreciate that there are side issues this year but ultimately this is supposed to be a light thread about a light entertainment program

Please keep it funny, respectful and glittery!

Thanks
