I'm not watching Strictly this year, anyone else?

That's it really. I've watched every year since 2004 but all the controversy last year has put me off.

I’m watching but I record it so I can fast forward through Tess’ waffle. She’s absolutely dreadful.

FanofLeaves · 27/09/2025 14:11

I haven’t been but I’m fairly tempted to start tonight.

FourChimneys · 27/09/2025 14:29

I am sure it's ok to not watch it. Dance doesn't interest me so even if I had a TV it wouldn't occur to me to put it on. No idea about any controversy though, I can't help you there.

There must be a billion better things to do on a Saturday evening than watch TV.

taxi4ballet · 27/09/2025 14:53

I won't be watching it. I'm not really a fan of Latin & ballroom. Especially not their god-awful attempts at contemporary dance. And yes I do mean the professionals.

LlynTegid · 27/09/2025 14:58

The BBC has form for keeping things on well past their natural sell-by date. This is but one of many, it should have just been a Christmas special years ago.

Not that I begrudge the last two years winners, who by participating and winning have done a lot for others with the same conditions as each of them. And Chris McCausland is an excellent comedian who just happens to be without sight.

As for the BBC flogging dead horses, Top Gear was and Not Going out are examples.

PuppyMonkey · 27/09/2025 15:06

I realised last year that I really couldn’t be arsed watching it, so i didn’t bother. It’s actually a pretty boring show, all those terrible training skits and dragged out judges comments with Moti talking utter bollocks… give it a miss OP.

Purplecatshopaholic · 27/09/2025 15:14

I enjoyed it for a long time. Too much drama, controversy etc has begun to pall. CBA this year.

Mydahliasareshit · 27/09/2025 15:20

Nope. Used to watch it every year. Z listers and boring predictable behaviour by all concerned. Time to put it to bed.

thistimelastweek · 27/09/2025 15:24

I won't watch.

Not because of controversy, I've just lost interest

hawheresthebmareviewnow · 27/09/2025 15:29

Nope not watching it. Z listers, qualified dancers pretending it’s hard, and other assorted zero talent people trying to boost their careers doing the circuit of reality tv shows

LillianGish · 27/09/2025 15:37

I always watch it on catch up so I can fast forward through all the unnecessary chat - it's far too long and drawn out. I like the dancing and the commentary on the dancing, I don't mind if I don't know the celebrities as you get to know them as the series go on, I just don't need to hear all the wiffling on between dances or long excerpts from the training room so I just fast forward past all that stuff.

AutumnyCrow · 27/09/2025 15:40

I lost interest last year, despite the fun MN thread(s) that accompany it.

There are just too many ‘reality’ and ‘influencer’ types on it, as well as the unpleasant allegations and undercurrents floating about. Maybe controversy for controversy’s sake is de rigueur, but I’m not a fan.

Middlemarch123 · 27/09/2025 15:43

I stopped a couple of years ago. All the controversy put me off. It’s had its day, tarnished now and can’t abide Tess at the best of times. But whilst it pulls in viewers the BBC will keep with it.

Fallulah · 27/09/2025 15:46

I’ll watch it but they’re definitely scraping the barrel for celebs this year. Look at who Celebrity Traitors has got in comparison!

FieryA · 27/09/2025 15:47

I have stopped watching because I don't like how negative Tess and the audience are whenever Craig is sharing his comments. Every single time there is booing and Tess goes along with it. I find that utterly disrespectful towards a judge but also repetitive. Like why is there booing? So silly.

pinkbackground · 27/09/2025 15:52

I stopped watching a few years ago. The presenters irritate me and I don’t know who most of the celebrities are.

flippyflopss · 27/09/2025 16:07

Ive never really seen it.
Seen bits of it if im at someones home bloody boring tbh.
Same as BGT XF game shows soaps etc never had any interest in any of it.

Zippedydodah · 27/09/2025 16:09

I lost interest several years ago, it’s well past its sell buy date now.

Nocookiesforme · 27/09/2025 16:29

It's just so samey - the same formula, the same Z list celebs that have been a feature for the last few years. This year is just so....underwhelming. We've watched from the beginning but last year we recorded it so we could fast forward through the dross and even that was mostly bad. This year we just decided not to watch at all. We've done the same to Bake Off, Interior Design Masters, IACGMOOH, Master Chef etc and Sewing Bee could follow next year.
The formula gets stale and boring and the BBC (& other channels) need to realise that there's a lot of choice in TV land so need to compete better.

Lucelady · 27/09/2025 16:32

Not just me then.

I don't like what appeared to happen to silence a female professional dancer last year.
The professionals are freelance and if they complain they're not re booked.
Tess and Claudia then appeared to sweep it under the carpet. No sticking up for another female. The 'celebrity' is still getting his advertising dollar on other channels.

I agree it has been great to see the diversity but I'd rather watch an old classic film I think.

@Fallulah 21st year of Strictly? 1st year of celeb traitors. One requires training and designation. The other doesn’t. It’s more prestigious to get on first Traitors. 21st Traitors? We will see!

Thoughtsandprayers · 27/09/2025 16:47

I’ll be watching it but will be fast forwarding through all the inane chit chat & daft comedy sketch bits.

The whole format needs a good shake up and somehow stop with all the Strictly curse, bullying, drugs allegations etc which casts the whole show in a less than flattering light.

Tbh, I don’t mind not knowing who some (most!) of the celebs are as I enjoy watching their progress. <whispers> I even quite like the odd ringer!
