In a long awaited return to British television, ITV (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/tv-reviews/a64348705/gemma-arterton-secret-service-itv-drama/) have scored award-winning actor Andrew Lincoln to lead in upcoming thriller, Coldwater.

Alongside Ewen Bremner, Indira Varma (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/a64475507/the-night-manager-season-2-release-date-cast-plot/)and Eve Myles, the six-part series is written by celebrated playwright David Ireland and, if recently-released first look images are anything to go by, is guaranteed to keep you at the edge of your seat.

The series (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/tv-reviews/g31986791/best-tv-shows/) centres around John (Lincoln) and the unfolding of an unlikely relationship when he moves up to the fictional village of Coldwater in rural Scotland.

Exploring themes of masculinity and religion, the thriller blends dark humour with compelling characters.

What is the plot of Coldwater?

After witnessing a fiery confrontation in a local playground, stay-at-home dad John relocates from London as far away as possible up to Coldwater in Scotland.

Amidst his mid-life identity crisis, John befriends his mysterious next door neighbour, Tommy (Ewen Bremner). A friendly face and valued resident in Coldwater.

Tommy is a relic of the community; he is the leader of the all-male book group and married to Rebecca, the local vicar (Eve Myles).

Whilst John is totally enthralled by Tommy, his wife Fiona (Indira Varma) is completely unsettled by him.

As Fiona strives to add some spark back into her marriage and her career, she is wary of John and Tommy’s bond.

Fiona’s suspicions are correct, as underneath his charming exterior, Tommy is the neighbour from hell.

As his mask starts to slip, his shocking secrets come to the surface, and John starts to question Tommy’s motives whilst he grapples with his own personal struggles.

The official synopsis reads: “This is the story of a normal man, in a normal marriage, who finds himself in a far from normal situation. A man who discovers a newfound sense of his own power, right at the moment he falls under the influence of someone incredibly dangerous.”

Who is the Cast and Crew of Coldwater?
• Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead, Love Actually, Teachers) plays John
• Ewen Bremner (Our Flag Means Death, Trainspotting) plays Tommy
• Indira Varma (Obsession, Obi-Wan Kenobi) plays Fiona
• Eve Myles (Hijack, Keeping Faith) plays Rebecca

It’s good purple

I've watched the first two so I've watched enough to make a decision. From the comments on yesterday's episode I made the right decision

lazymum99 · 22/09/2025 08:33

I think the fact that it doesn’t take itself seriously makes it easier to watch. There is humour in it. The fact that the cat murder upset me more than any of the people says it all!

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/09/2025 10:10

I see the black humour now
tho the cat death wasn’t needed

but really suprised cat didn’t run from him

I'm enjoying this whilst watching...but it is all a bit stupid really isn't it??
John is just such a weak and pathetic character, dont much like him...waiting for rick grimes to be unleashed!

the80sweregreat · 22/09/2025 11:59

It’s strange that most tv dramas these days have a murder of some kind and hardly anyone blinks , but show a fake cat being sadly killed and there is such an outcry! I do get it , but it’s not real life and some psychopaths do start out killing and harming pets etc as abhorrent that is :( ( I don’t mean to upset anyone here , it’s not a pleasant storyline )

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/09/2025 13:37

It’s the act of killing pussy cat and as I am deaf I have subtitles so says cat wailing - screeching then quiet

It's all getting a bit silly now , Tommy trying to strangle Catriona for no reason , he's an absolute maniac . Rebecca is worse and probably madder as she acts like she's okay .

The daughter is giving me creepy vibes too.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/09/2025 17:40

I think daughter is ok. She moved away to escape daddy /tommy

PrincessScarlett · 22/09/2025 21:05

Oooh Rebecca is evil.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/09/2025 21:12

They both are

OP posts:
PrincessScarlett · 22/09/2025 21:13

Yes but at least Tommy is out and out evil. Rebecca is evil but pretending to be normal and good.

JenniferBooth · 22/09/2025 21:13

Rebecca shitting herself because shes wondering what her daughter is saying to the therapist

PrincessScarlett · 22/09/2025 21:14

Yep!

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/09/2025 21:18

If a therapist hears about a murder etc

do they have to tell the police

OP posts:
FurForksSake · 22/09/2025 21:23

No, but if it is terror related or you plan to hurt someone or yourself then there would be a need. It depends on lots of factors. But if historical then no, I believe not.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/09/2025 21:24

She’s a good liar for a vicar

OP posts:
PrincessScarlett · 22/09/2025 21:24
