For when the first thread is full. I may be watching but won't be posting because I won't have access to a computer and I need the speed of a keyboard to get my opinion out there before I forget what it is.

What an unneccesarily unpleasant remark. You seem quite bothered about Kit being an out gay man - which says more about you than Kit.

I thought Kit was incredibly talented, a great technical sewer and was sorry to see him go. I think nerves must have got to him, because he royally stuffed it up this week, which is a shame.

Yasmin's m2m was head and shoulders above the rest and also quite different, so it stood out. I think Caz will probably win, although I've never warmed to her makes particularly - but that is a matter of personal taste, I don't like her slightly 'whacky' style.

I wasn’t referring specifically to Kit, rather than on so many shows like this, and previous series of sewing bee, lots of gay men bring it into every thing they make, the guy the other year who had to have a harness in every thing he made.
Gay men on programs like this are always shown as being gay being their unique thing. Gay women are just women who might bring a bit of feminism etc into their work, like Yasmin’s dress yesterday.

This isn’t about Kit or any specific individual but more about programs like this as a whole and the way they are cast.

Agree!

Victoriawould24 · 10/09/2025 07:43

I also agree with pp’s that Kit’s arrogance is actually a reaction to anxiety, I think his outgoing appearance leads people to wrongly presume he’s a confident and outrageous person, a bit of a camp gay man trope, but actually he’s introverted, awkward and reserved (very possible neurodivergent).
I think it’s very sad for him not to be in the final because he deserved it for being consistently brilliant, but sadly he was hard to warm to.

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/09/2025 07:55

CorrectionCentre · 09/09/2025 23:10

I also think that Kit is more anxious and socially awkward than arrogant.

I agree.

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/09/2025 07:55

I agree.

Arrogant people dont blush deeply (at both praise and criticism) or avoid eye contact do they? They dont typically help others either, which we've seen Kit do. I understand why his remarks have grated with people, but most seem quick to judge rather than consider that he could be simply trying to overcome his own anxiety and self-doubt. His demeanor to me has always looked highly anxious. I'm glad others see it too.

What about Dan? I don't remember him referring to his sexuality but I follow him on Facebook and he makes outfits for drag artistes and some of his carnival type designs are really "out there'. He may well be gay but didn't bring it into the sewing room which would disprove what you're saying.

Do you also get annoyed at the older contestants being filmed as age being their unique thing? And the token very young contestant being there and their youth made their thing? Or is it just gay men that irritate you?

swampwitch0 · 10/09/2025 08:06

Kit is very talented, maybe the nerves got to him? He seemed a shoo-in for the final very early on.

I suspect Kit is 'the wrong sort of gay or 'throwing it in our face'.

These are the sorts of things my gran used to say, for goodness sake.

Yasmin has mentioned being gay several times, too, as it goes.

I haven't enjoyed some of the commentary on here on Kit this year. It's left a nasty taste.

Well, I cried watching it on catch up. But I like all the finalists too.

Only they're not. Dan is gay, too.

Yes. The thread has been quite unpleasant at times.

swampwitch0 · 10/09/2025 09:52

Sigh.
My child is gay, fgs.
I have no issue with Kit's sexuality.
He didn't always come across well, but as pps have mentioned, its all in the editing

PrincessofWells · 10/09/2025 09:53

Am I the only one shocked that Kit went? I know he had a not great week but I thought he was very talented, more so than the remaining contestants.

I agree this is a seriously annoying aspect of a lot of these TV programmes, but at least Kit could sew and until last week’s MTM deserved his plaudits. He wasn’t there just for diversity.

He had a poor week and it was right that he went, but I do think he is talented and has clearly worked hard to understand technical elements of clothes making. He has potential to build a career.

The editing of saint Kit to bad, sulky show off Kit is down to the BBC.

He had a shocker, to be fair.
And, sadly, he did (or was edited to) appear very arrogant re: PC.
I get a bit fed up of D rings tbh...but tthat's just personal preference....I can't imagine they are comfortable to wear?

I was surprised but he had a very bad week and that's how it goes.

Chewbecca · 10/09/2025 11:35

Sara Pascoe was on R2 a couple of weekends ago and said there was a big shock still to be aired in this series so I had my suspicions Kit would leave before the final as noone else would really have been a shock, he was definitely the front runner. Was a bit peeved at the spoiler! Kit deserved to go last night sadly, his M2M was not good. It is a shame that scores aren't cumulative which would actually determine the best sewist but I guess it would lower the jeopardy and excitement for TV.

The final three are all very talented and it's one of those finals which is going to be down to who has the best day, so should be a great show.

Summeriscumin · 10/09/2025 11:45

I’d have been sad whoever went. I’ve really liked all of the contestants this year. I nearly didn’t watch after last year’s mess.

Caz to win, I hope.

Pancakeflipper · 10/09/2025 11:53

Did Kit drink some "I'm a right clever clogs" potion before filming that episode?

He's been so strong throughout but he was the weakest last night. Esme was his biggest fan.

Yasmin's pleats - beautiful. I have fond memories of a double pleat school skirt. Always gives herself a hard task in M2M.

Orla - I think she's the daring one and very talented.

Caz - I do like the creativity of Caz but feel like she's fading slightly.

FlowerUser · 10/09/2025 11:56

I am delighted we have an all-female final.

I wonder if Esme and Patrick thought he deserved to have a GOTW because he was such a good sewer, but also thought he might not make the final. Is that why they had two winners last week when Orla's dress was obviously much better?

Anyway, it could be any of them to win. Orla has really shone in the last couple of episodes; Yasmin's dress was a deserved winner and she has stood out occasionally. Cas has flashes of brilliance but is inconsistent.

Looking forward to the final. I never watch the coming up next week bit or even at the beginning of the show because of they frequently contain spoilers.

BestIsWest · 10/09/2025 12:23

Wasn’t his paper dress GOTW? Not just the scarecrow.

He lost that by choosing the wrong material for the plus fours really. He’d probably have done them perfectly in a finer wool and done better in the pattern challenge.
I thought his transformation was a bit of a cop out though.

Judging by how flushed he got when talking I suspect there is real anxiety there and maybe the editing was a bit harsh.

Piggywaspushed · 10/09/2025 12:28

it was obvious he was going really when the edit showed all this foreshadowing of famous last words.

Editing is a cruel thing. And very powerful.

It's not unpleasant. There's far more to a person's personality than their sexuality.

WonderfulSmith · 10/09/2025 12:52

I’m sorry if I’ve upset people with my comments. I don’t give a shiny shite about someone’s sexuality. I like Kit, he is a very talented sewer and made amazing clothes.

My comment was that the way that this has been edited to make so much more about his sexuality than that of others.

Again I’m sorry if I’ve offended or upset anyone.

Londonmummy66 · 10/09/2025 12:52

I really like Yasmin and her very considered approach to research. Not just last night's outfit but also in Korean week when she made the detachable sleeves (and they were a very big challenge) because her research was that the outfit was worn for archery. I preferred her dress that week to Caz and would have liked her to have GOTW then as well. I think she is a very good technical sewer and has a good eye for fabric.

Orla is the most interesting and creative - her swirls in the transformation challenge showed a lot of flair (and I loved her giraffe applique in children's week). I also loved her top and shorts set in (I think) Korea week MTM - a very unique take on the brief. She's also a very good technical sewer.

Caz has years of experience and it has shown even over a talented field. (I loved her shortcut to pattern matching last night) She's also pretty unflappable and knows when to unpick and when to carry on. I don't always like her fabric choices but I can see how they would appeal to others and I think Esme respects her as an older lady who is prepared to be a bit "out there" sometimes. Last night was a bit of a shocker from her as well as she usually fits to the model so well. I'm sure she won't be repeating that mistake next week.

I think the editing means Caz goes into the final as the front runner given how many GOTW she has won but I really do think that anyone of the ladies could win and I would be happy with anyone winning as they are all amazing and creative.

I agree that Kit is probably an anxious person adopting a big persona to mask that. I quite liked him to start with but the "slutty club" remark really gave me the ick I'm afraid and after that he started to irritate me. I do also think he has been a bit of a teacher's pet and over praised in the transformation rounds. He is a good technical sewer and I think has the sort of brain that can visualise in 3D when a pattern is a bit counter intuitive - one reason why he is good at self drafting. However he doesn't have the wealth of experience that Caz can fall back on and that showed in some of his fabric choices - he chooses by colour when sometimes he should chose by other means - like the plus fours.
