For when the first thread is full. I may be watching but won't be posting because I won't have access to a computer and I need the speed of a keyboard to get my opinion out there before I forget what it is.

I was fairly disappointed this week. Whilst the jacket was an unusual pattern and tricky I don't think it was an 'iconic' look, which was what I expected for Movie Week - something that was instantly recognisable from a certain film.

I quite enjoyed the transformation, for once, and thought that Jess's dress was fabulous - but basically there's only so much variety in a dress made from identical red velvet curtains!

The horror movie bit was horrendous - I was so looking forward to movie week, expecting Hollywood glamour or something similar, but the brief was just weird. How do you do a 'horror' costume without making it look like fancy dress? The two who won were certainly much more horror movie than the others, but still looked like the sort of thing you'd knock up for a Halloween costume party in my view.

REALLY looking forward to 1920s week, however.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 03/09/2025 14:08

I agree with PPs that they could have chosen something more interesting for the pattern challenge this week. I thought the jacket was a bit boring and the movie reference rather dated considering how many films there are out there.

Northquit · 03/09/2025 14:52

The two scary outfits were scary but I think the scarecrow was pointless for a m2m.

Kit's really lovely and helpful though.

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 03/09/2025 16:40

1920’s is my favorite era so can’t wait !

MrsSpendTooMuch · 03/09/2025 19:45

Listening to the judges comments on the transformation it sounded like Gaynor should have been in second place on that challenge but they put her next to last instead, which didn’t make sense. I also thought Orla should have got GOTW on her own, Kit’s looked good but it didn’t need much fitting. I wasn’t keen on the made to measure challenge this week, but I liked the pattern and transformation challenges. I’m looking forward to 1920s week.

BippidyBoppety · 03/09/2025 20:03

Glad I am not the only one that was scratching my head at Kit's tunic and oversized trousers. Putting a frayed edge on when he'd planned for hay, chucking an off-centre sack on top and - - - "Ta-dah" - what's that about as joint GOTW?

In the past series there have been transformation challenges that have won GOTW, but I don't think they have in this series ... is that a new decision? 'Cos that red frock was great. Gaynor's did look a bit sack-frock, but it wasn't awful.

Caz's seams on her m2m were puckered. Gaynor's scuba m2m looked beautifully fitted, great colours. Marking her down for it being pretty felt mean spirited, but I think we all knew Gaynor was going ... I think she was short changed, but she was never going to win.

I like Caz's enthusiasm.

Pancakeflipper · 03/09/2025 20:35

I'm Team Gaynor should not be 4th in the transformation challenge but it was right she was the one going home.

I'll.miss Gaynor but her family are probably happy to have her back making them clothes.

Loved Orla's GOTW.
Kit's looked scary but it wasn't highly technical.....

Ratafia · 03/09/2025 23:37

If the GOTW award had to be shared, if anything Yasmin should have been there with Orla for her transformation dress. It was streets ahead of Kit's scarecrow.

DameWishalot · 04/09/2025 12:39

I wonder if part of the thinking was that next week may well have suited Gaynor very well (lots of precision sewing and fitting and '1920s' might throw up classic/elegant themed clothes rather than creative 'wacky' themed stuff) and it's probably right that she doesn't deserve to be in the final.

She seemed unfairly judged this week, but overall I think they've got the right people in next week for this stage of the competition. But then as we get towards the end of the series I think they should stop pretending it's 100% based on each week (obviously you can still go out if you have a shocker of a week).

HeadNorth · 04/09/2025 14:05

I think it was fair enough Gaynor left this week. Whatever you think of her transformation, it was judged blind and she came 4th. She was also last in the pattern challenge. After that, her m2m would need to knock it out the park - and it didn't. Yasmin's m2m also was not good, but her transformation was superb and she faired better in the pattern challenge. However much you favour Gaynor, the decision to send her home seems fair to me.

2Rebecca · 04/09/2025 14:27

I loved the pattern challenge jacket and am disappointed Kate from the Fold Line didn’t find anything like it. I want them to ditch fancy dress themes and do more wearable sewing and focus on fit and sewing quality not wackiness.

PickAChew · 04/09/2025 20:05

I've not been able to find a tailored jacket with a gusseted dolman sleeve. I did find this rather lovely coat, though, so it's not completely obsolete. The gussets are quite a bit bigger, though.

Orla should have been allowed to enjoy winning GOTW alone. Kit's won enough plus he copied something else.

I agree. Even the judges said the actual items were quite simple. And yes, he just copied from a TV show.

Orla made up a whole character and backstory.

CalamityGanon · 02/09/2025 23:24

There have been 2 Dr Who films.

He said his outfit was inspired by an episode though.

ShoAndSew · 05/09/2025 15:19

tbh the scary scarecrow is pretty much a meme. He could have meant that one from Batman? (can't remember the character's name, played by the Peaky Blinder chap whose name i can't remember either)

NeedWineNow · 07/09/2025 17:13

Back from holidays, catching up and checking in on the new thread <waves>

Kit specifically said Dr Who.

ShoAndSew · 07/09/2025 17:37

I know. I was pointing out how generic is is - used in loads of things, and thus in my eyes far too derivative to be GOTW

Scarecrow is a cliche, rather like clowns, but Kit referenced Doctor Who.

Summeriscumin · 08/09/2025 09:06

I think the judges were worried that the eventual winner didn't win a GOTW.

I like Kit a lot and love his work (scarecrow excepted) He or Caz will win but he is favoured by the judges, I think.

ShoAndSew · 09/09/2025 21:12

Kit being horribly cocky. Not good. Hope he falls on his face

WonderfulSmith · 09/09/2025 21:12

Kit getting a bit cocky there with his knowing how to make trousers.

PickAChew · 09/09/2025 21:14

With that fabric, Kit has nothing to be cocky about.

Love Sarah's blouse, this week.
