For when the first thread is full. I may be watching but won't be posting because I won't have access to a computer and I need the speed of a keyboard to get my opinion out there before I forget what it is.

@TheDameHelenShiteingMirren maybe also try using your walking foot if you don't already. I have a Janome which has Accufeed (basically a lower profile walking foot with interchangeable feet) which I always use and that might make a difference between the fabric shifting a little or not at all.

Even with thicker paper patterns I match stripes or other features to the notches. I use lots of pins put in horizontally or tack to stop it slipping.

Anyone watching the M&S Dress the nation show on ITV? It’s more focused on design than sewing quality, but I’m quite enjoying it.

SynysterGates · 14/09/2025 19:37

Just caught up.
was glad kit went, his plus fours were dreadful, so was the second thing.
he came across as very arrogant.
probably edited that way.

Me neither, I've just it on!

LillyPJ · 14/09/2025 22:04

Just came across the end of it and thought it looked good so I'm taping the whole series now.Could be very interesting.

WonderfulSmith · 14/09/2025 22:33

Are you in 1990?!

What is it about?

From the tiny bit I saw, teams of sewers have to design and sew a set of outfits that would appeal to M&S customers. Then a group of customers and buyers say what they think. As I said, I only saw a little bit so there may be far more to it but it did look interesting. I didn't notice any silly comedy bits in the part I saw either!

CarefulN0w · 14/09/2025 22:53

I didn’t see it all but in the first round they had to design an autumn dress individually, then the best three got to pick their team for the next round which was a capsule wardrobe for a weekend away.

There was less sewing but I enjoyed the concept and absence of comedy. Looks like there is a guest judge each week too, which could make it interesting.

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/09/2025 06:36

I watched it last year and thought it was good.

Thank you, I do use my walking foot for everything, apart from zips.

Oooh that sounds good. I’ll look about for that. I rarely trouble ITV so I wouldn’t have seen it.

Kit getting a bit cocky there with his knowing how to make trousers.

I'm on post-holiday catch-up. Kit is coming across as increasingly unpleasant with every episode, be that editing or not.

ShoAndSew · 16/09/2025 12:18

I'm going to go back and rewatch after the final. Because i think we worked out that the ejectee gets a lot of airtime on that ep. But i don't think i'd noticed Kit being arsey before. Flamboyant, yes, but also kind and funny. If they have deliberately edited that to make him seem awful, that's worth a complaint i think.

And i speak as a not-kit-fan here.

I just came here to see if the M&S programme has been mentioned. I will watch it, this is series 2 for anyone who didn’t know about it before

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 16/09/2025 14:07

Loved Jasmin's (Yasmin's?) sailor dress - so good for the brief and just beautifully fitted and made.

Orla was robbed sharing GOTW last week.

Won't be sorry to see a new presenter, don't think Sara Pascoe is suiting this well - but loved her outfit this week.

Three people going in to the final who are all capable of fabulous things - can't wait.

HeadNorth · 16/09/2025 16:19

I'm less excited about the final now Kit has gone - he was my favourite. I don't like the things Kaz makes especially, but I respect her skill and expect she will win.

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/09/2025 16:58

I don't mind who wins, they are all good. I won't be commenting on the thread until later though, I've got friends coming round to watch with me.

placemats · 16/09/2025 18:36

Enjoy your evening @CaptainMyCaptain

I'm doing the same.

swampwitch0 · 16/09/2025 19:07

I'm looking forward to it.
The finalists are all very good, but I'd like Orla or Yasmin to win because they have both been overlooked more than once for both PC and GoftW imo

OrangeAndPistachio · 16/09/2025 19:25

I think Yasmin will win , but they're all fabulous and deserving. Looking forward to watching.

WonderfulSmith · 16/09/2025 21:06

I’d be perfectly happy whoever wins. They are all lovely people and great sewers.

CrushingOnRubies · 16/09/2025 21:11

I’m the same. I really don’t mind who wins.
