How did they all get the one with the ice blocks correct? None of them seemed to have a clue about it.

Judith noticed the number on the tree in the key search challenge.

bizzey · 29/08/2025 11:25

Daren has come up on my FB page !

He seems to have a big fan base, with lots of comments saying for him to go on and do more TV .

So - according to Rob, there were four hidden coordinates to find and use to form an X on the map. But there were only three tasks - Audrey Hepburn picture, ice smashing and putting the destinations in order. You can't form an X with only three pins. Anyone else confused?😳

Yes me!

I wonder if there was a task that nobody could solve so they just "gave" everybody that answer.

I'd like an analysis of how they performed for each challenge. Judith won the Venice challenge. Josh had two golden tickets, needed both because he hadn't paid attention to the numbers (unlike Judith) and didn't know/couldn't work out the Audrey H one. So Judith winning with no golden tickets makes her win even clearer.

All of them, other than Dawn and Nick, seemed to suffer from a lack of poor general and geographical knowledge. Judith did start to catch on in the south of France recognising it was hot. I think her open modesty self doubt will have been emphasised in the editing to make her look less Machiavellian and more sympathetic for the viewer. She came across as a lovely person.

I agree that Judith did start to catch on to the geography towards the end because I seem to remember her commenting in the last episode that she thought they had been travelling East then South. Perhaps learning from Nick there and watching the sun.

Overall I was sorry that Nick wasn't in to the end, I think he would have been the most worthy winner. After he went I was backing Clare and Judith but unfortunately at times they did seem monumentally thick with the clues they got. I get the impression Judith is clever but very literal minded and just doesn't get riddles AT ALL. Bet she has never done a crossword in her life.

Still glad that, out of the three of them, she won. Especially glad Josh didn't get it. So arrogant!

The Spanish Steps were used because it's where the meeting between Audrey Hepburn and her male counterpart first happens in Roman Holiday.

Essentially, if they'd paid attention, and knew the movie that kept being referenced, they might have guessed that the Spanish Steps were important and not needed to do the tasks.

Edited

I do think the frequent references to a 70-odd year-old film was a bit odd. I mean ,sure, it's reasonably well known amongst older people but an absolutely archaic film for anyone under about 40.

I’m under 40 and watched Roman Holiday but doubt many of my peers have. Only reason why I have was because I brought the entire box set of audrey Hepburn movies for Christmas one year. And Roman Holiday was included in that .

Might see him and Jackie P on next year’s Strictly

I’m so happy that Judith won.🎉

BBC News - Destination X winner reveals how she will spend her prize money - BBC News
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckgeql2j0dqo?app-referrer=deep-link

Just read this. "It was definitely not what I expected. I did not expect us to be completely in the dark pretty much all the time," Ms Magambo, 28, said.

She added: "You had earmuffs, were blindfolded - completely in the dark."

Presumably, the bits where they were chatting on the bus were filmed when it was stationary? But then they commented on the position of the sun so not sure now.

Just finished watching on IPlayer and am relieved that Judith won out of the three of them. It was nice to see Dawn. I think she went out too early, people seemed to ignore her although she was talking a lot of sense. Bit weird how she found an empty balcony and then Rob strolls in with the briefcase. It felt quite a stilted ending.

Tiny bit of research.

This is the building they went into.
It is not at the top of the Spanish Steps. It is Casina Valadier which according to Google maps is an 11 minute walk away.

So, I’m guessing that they ran to the top of the steps, which was filmed a couple of times due to the cardigan changing, then taken onto the building and had to run again from there.

Rob was a bit of a liar in the end because he said 4 coordinates were hidden, and we only saw three, and also the winner would be the one who found him at Destination X. Except he was actually at Destination Y, 10 minutes down the road.

cakeorwine · 29/08/2025 19:19

Do you think they knew the outcome when they were doing multiple takes of running up the steps?

Freedbagforlife · 29/08/2025 22:19

What happened to the destination x map card Judith had from a previous task where they had to identify each others friend and relatives? Was it used?

It was only valid for that episode’s map room and then she was made safe anyway so didn’t need it

You'll be telling me the Sunday Strictly episodes are filmed on Saturday next!

To be fair (why?) they never actually say that they are filmed on Sunday.

WimbyAce · 29/08/2025 23:18

Finished watching tonight and was pleased for Judith. Also would like to know what happened to the 4th co-ordinate.

WoodlandLove · 30/08/2025 06:57

Just binged the last 4 episodes - 7 - 9 last night, and the final this morning.

That final was poetry!

I'm completely overjoyed that Judith won. I'd been cheering her on ever since I saw how her conscience was troubled over Saskia & Josh's Dortmund lie.
I love an underdog, most of us do, and I reckon most of the nation was cheering her on.

Very deserving winner 😊🎉🏆

NewAgeNewMe · 30/08/2025 07:15

Chuffed to bits for Judith. So pleased she won.

Judith did. That was the one she figured out pretty much straight away. I think that's why she had the edge at the end.

WoodlandLove · 30/08/2025 09:26

Motherbear44 · 28/08/2025 23:15

I have just watched on catch up because I had to go out. I wanted Judith to win, even though I can’t forgive her for not getting the equations. They were yr 3 maths.

I think she just misread 31 as 3? Also, I think she probably overthought it, as she's used to more complex equations. Also, she was anxious. Ironically, I think it's sometimes the things we're best at that catch us out, as we're under pressure to do well.
I felt very sorry for her then tbh, as she was clearly embarrassed.
I'm so glad she pulled it out of the bag at the end. I think lack of confidence and a feeling of isolation (apart from Claire) held her back on some of the challenges.
She won fair & square, and I'm so pleased.

GenieGenealogy · 30/08/2025 09:41

I was out on Thursday so could not watch the final live. I think the fact I'm only now getting round to catching up on iPlayer says it all.

The sad music and the sob stories was the final nail in the coffin. Just awful.

Decent enough concept for a game show, but it needs a lot of refining if they are going to even try to make a second season. I also think it has limited longevity as it really has to be in Europe to have lots of places not that far apart and accessible by bus.

Oh they do - Tess and Claud, and the contestants talk about "last night's show" or "let's have a recap of how they all danced on Saturday" and it's just so fake.

Do they? I'll have to check when the next series starts.

"last night's show" - not acceptable
"... danced on Saturday" - factually correct.

Medee · 30/08/2025 12:27

I nearly gave up after the first episode. None of the clues actually pointed to Paris! But I decided to give it a second go and glad I did. A lot of the clues were either really obvious or very obscure, and the game play among the contestants just felt childish rather than the conniving we get with Traitors. I did love Daren and his Jackie P even with him surviving through luck rather than skill. Overall the fair winner, Josh and Saskia let scheming dominate over the actual gameplay.

You see, this is where I was confused so many times - there were Paris clues, but there were also loads of red herrings, and I could never see how they were supposed to know/work out which were genuine clues
