I don't think Any and Joel would be a good fit , but then again that's what keeps Eastenders going !
They would look cute together though .

NowNumber5 · 30/08/2025 16:56

Just catching up on my recordings of Classic EE.
It's NYE 2008 and all the big names are on screen - Pat, Hev n Shirl, Ronnie and Roxie, Peggy's behind the bar, Minty and Gary, Sean Slater, Tanya and Max with Abbie and Lauren, Bradley and Dot and Jim. It must be when Patrick and Yolande are first together because it's all lovey dovey between them - good times!

Oooh no hope not !

Either he'll have to have the complete 180 degree personality transplant or Amy will have to have a bump to the head .

I thought Amy was older but Google says she's 14 . Joel is 15 , so is Avanni

Lexi is 12 -waaaaaaay too young for Joel but Lexi is quite wordly wise having been through a lot on her short life . If Joel even looked at Lexi , Phil would tear him limb from limb and there would be an orderly queue to carry on after him.

Edited

He will change and they'll get together imo

Not a fan of amy the character - very much 'my dad's a copper and yours isnt' 🙄😄

Shes a good actor though

Namechangeonemillionandone · 30/08/2025 21:15

Does anyone who's watched since 1985 know whether there was always this focus on the youths?

Sometimes I find it unnecessary to have so many youth focused storylines

Shellingbynight · 30/08/2025 22:02

It’s hard to answer in the sense that the cast is far bigger now and there are four episodes a week not two, so there are more actors in general.

But in the 80s we had Sharon, Michelle, Ian, Mark, Cindy, and they all got a lot of screen time. The original 'teen storyline' was Michelle having Den’s baby.

And there have always been teens who got a lot of focus like Ricky, Bianca, Sonia, Abi, Lauren, Stacey, Lucy. So I don’t think it is that different, except the storylines are bit more out there (like Joel).

Yes absolutely, back then Sharon, Ian, Michelle etc, were the youth!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/08/2025 22:17

Back in the day you had characters like Hattie Tavernier ( who worked for Ian) and her brother ( ?Junior)
Ian had his unfair share of unruly teens in his life - Steven ( who he raised ) was troubled , Lucy was a stroppy little madam, Bobby ... well we all know what he did .
Strange to think that Pe-Ah was his least troublesome child , Xmas Grin

Ashley ( Nasty Nicks boy ) was a chip off the old block

What hasn;t changed right from the Get Go is they never step outside the Square to find their next partner .
Amy should buck the trend and get someone who doesn;t live in the E20 postcode ( but he'll be related to someone obvs )

Kelvin Carpenter was another who hung around with that group in the early days. I think his sister was Cassie.

There was the schizophrenia storyline with Joe Wicks in the 90s too.

Shellingbynight · 31/08/2025 10:36

The upcoming problem for the multiple teens (assuming they don't leave) is what next? Because we know they can't work away from the square but they can't all work in the Minit Mart, and surely some will go to uni.

the80sweregreat · 31/08/2025 10:51

Maybe one or two of the teens could go to college or Uni in London and commute there ?
I know they don’t like people moving or traveling too far from home !

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/08/2025 11:26

I know - I mean heaven forbid that one of them might <gasp> head out to the tube and go to Stratford and attend UEL Grin
Bianca went to University in Manchester IIRC and Dana (Harvey;s daughter ) properly escaped and moved to Edinburgh for her Nursing degree

the80sweregreat · 31/08/2025 11:32

Libby did well at Oxford , but unless they pop back during the holidays the scope for any stories end once they leave. They have had a few tube journeys shown recently ( a nasty one with Joel and Tommy , but it was away from the square) and with Avani, but it’s not feasible to have stories that may be away from the square on a permanent basis I suppose , so a job in the shop or the pubs or the launderette it is!
Some unis are thinking of doing courses on line, so they could study from home maybe ?

Southeastdweller · 31/08/2025 11:37

Johnny lived at the Vic and commuted to his university when he was doing his law degree, as I recall. In all the time I’ve been watching EE (40+ years) I think it’s only him and Kelvin who went to university in London.

I think Dotty was when she arrived but then dropped out. Or was it Grant's daughter?

the80sweregreat · 31/08/2025 11:53

Can’t remember if Dotty was a student, but I liked her so much! I know she was a ‘baddie , ‘ but her dress sense was great and she was a good little actress.
I wouldn’t mind her returning , but nobody to come back to really.

the80sweregreat · 31/08/2025 11:55

Grant’s daughter was Courtney.
They live in Portugal. She probably doesn’t speak Portuguese though! Lol

Dotty rocked up in the Square a fully qualified car mechanic ( don't they all)

Harry and Kojo too .

" Can I get a job here?"
"Are you a C&G Qualified Motor Mechanic"?
"Ermmmmm no but I'm a fast learner and I can hold a spanner the right way up"
"That;s a tyre arm you wally but you;ll do . Change the plugs on that Fiesta , bloke wants it by 5pm. "
"Great ..... two sugars in mine then "

Shellingbynight · 31/08/2025 13:31

And now Johnny can do his lawyering from home.
None of the teens have said what they want to do have they? Avani and Nugget are going to inherit Nish's non existent businesses but the rest of them need to have a think before they end up doomed to work on the car lot.

the80sweregreat · 31/08/2025 13:41

Oh yes. Dotty was a car mechanic !
I had forgotten this

the80sweregreat · 31/08/2025 14:43

Maybe Dotty could return to do up Nigel’s old car.
A reformed character, befriends him and shows she has turned a corner. Goes to live with Lauren and Pe ta because they need a lodger for some extra money.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/08/2025 14:56

Lauren and Dotty are tenuously related ( Dot was married to Jim) so off course that will mean Lauren will hate her .

Oscar was quite cruel to Pe-Ah when he lounged on the sofa in his pants , winding him up that Pe-Ah was having a good look.
But no matter how thin the pickings in the Square I cannot see Dotty going near Pe-Ah , so he'll be safe .
But Lauren will have her beady eye on her .

Pinkpelicanwinstherace · 31/08/2025 16:12

When did they stop putting EE on ,on a Friday..such a shame ,ruins my Friday Eve

the80sweregreat · 31/08/2025 16:16

I preferred a Friday edition too!
They do put it on Saturday nights on bbc three.

Eastie77Returns · 31/08/2025 16:25

The lack of ambition amongst the young people on the square is baffling. Will Mitchell got something like all grade 8 and 9s for his GCSEs last year which would potentially make him A Level and Oxbridge material but Billy said he was doing a vocational course in Caring or something🙄
