Was it Not Going Out? She’s been in a few episodes of that as the teacher.

Im not sure, but I just googled her and found a few clips with the same forced, unnatural type of speech.
However I came across an interview, and her natural voice is lovely. I’m sure she would have had a lot more success speaking normally.

That was literally the whole point of the character. I thought all the characters in that show were brilliant

I know that but still didn’t like her especially when she palmed off her children to her brother or poor Barbara . I know it’s fictitious

Seagullsandsausagerolls · 05/08/2025 10:26

@TheNinjaWife one of the other shows I was thinking about was Cuckoo (according to DS).

That's the point of it. Barbara was the put upon wife/mother and the rest were lazy oafs!

All except for "our Ant-nee", he was forever making the tea for everyone!

I can't believe the original article says Uncle Albert in OFAH. He was a great character.

Cassandra, however... absolutely appalling actress and not worthy to play opposite Nicholas Lyndhurst.

Personally I thought the Cassandra actress was perfect for the part - especially in the Holiday special when Rodney was in the Groovy Gang. Throughout, she matched Rodney's awkwardness perfectly.

Badbadbunny · 05/08/2025 11:25

@OnceIn

Not a series, but Tom Cruise cast as Jack Reacher, he’s so mis cast I can’t watch it. I’m a big fan of the books so was really looking forward to the films.

I agree, Tom Cruise was completely mis-cast as Reacher - I only watched half of the first film, and just couldn't relate to his portrayal at all, having been an avid reader of all the books. He was completely unbelievable.

I love Father Ted but I unfortunately found the character that Graham Norton played (Father Noel Furlong) so painfully bad I can't watch those episodes. The scene when they stay in the caravan is the worst.

Nothing against Graham - he's great in other things - but that character was the weakest part of an otherwise fantastic show.

And poor Ant and even Dave but I would have liked someone to pull Denise up on her behaviour

I wasn’t too keen on Ted from How I Met Your mother. Annoying, whiny, manipulative, fickle, bordering on narcissistic.
Everybody goes on about great Chummy was in Call the Midwife but I hated her and I’m glad she’s gone. I hate the awkward, stupid, bumbling, thick-as-shit slapstick sort of characters that Miranda Hart plays, just not my idea of funny.
Emily on Friends nearly made me stop watching.
Not a show I watched but have you ever heard the character played by Arianna Grande on the kids sitcom Sam and Cat? My daughter used to watch it but her fucking voice made me want to hack my ears off with a penknife for relief.

Just got to 😆😆😆for the last sixteen words there 😆

Andy Bernard in the US Office.

Loathe everyone in GG with the exception of Emily and Richard.

That’s an insane take, but I kind of love it. I love Emily, but they were terrible parents. Lori and Lane are my favourites.

Urgh. Lorelei is the worst, and then some. While I appreciate Emily & Richard were hugely suffocating as parent, they did want what is best for her and really tried albeit in a rather misguided way. Lorelei was an awful daughter, one who actually got worse with as she aged.

I first saw GG when I was in my 30s. Last time I watched it, I was in my late 40s. Lorelei always irritated me but now I'm (even) older, I find her insufferable. It doesn't help that I find Lauren Graham intensely annoying. Am a huge fan of Kelly Bishop though, hence the Emily love. Also love Emily's life after Richard. She's the only one who came out of A Year in the Life well.

Ngozi Okoye in Casualty

I think it’s my unresolved ‘mummy issues’ that makes me like Lori because I know lots of people hate her, she’s just what I wish my own mother/our relationship was like!

Maybe as I get older and have adult children of my own I’ll learn to dislike her. I haven’t seen a year in the life yet!

Mine too. The look of pure concentration on his face when he does Riverdance never fails to make me laugh.

RE the Skyler White hate: I’ve never understood it either, but I often see it online, the extent of dragging the actress, which is so unnecessary. Why not go after the writers who created the character? (Actually, I know the answer to that…)

I remember one debate on a film/TV blog, where a poster claimed he hated Skyler purely because she smoked while pregnant with Holly. That was it! Then someone else theorised that she interrupts the power-fantasy that Walt represents, with his ability to get away with everything and outsmart everyone. Skyler spoils all that by representing consequences for his actions! That seemed more plausible to me.

XelaM · 05/08/2025 18:29

I really liked Skyler White! She grew on me 😃 Her actions and reactions were very natural quite often - I thought the actress was great and very funny at times. Her sister was very irritating though

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/08/2025 18:46

I hated Anna Maxwell Martin’s character in Motherland. Surely nobody is actually that disorganised, incompetent and mean, and put up with so little engagement from their partner. Absolutely terrible character for the reputation of working mothers!

I quite like Julia although her inability to actually say a full sentence is very infuriating!

Sheldon from big bang. In the show it’s funny but in real life he would have no friends whatsoever and after a while that starts to grate. He was vile.

Interesting this gets more than one mentioned here. It’s widely acknowledged that Sheldon (in fact, most of the characters) would probably score high if tested for Autism. The creators have said they’ve left it open to interpretation, but most would conclude it is the case. Calling him vile, and not worthy of having friends is what happens to many autistic people, but thankfully there are others who do see past the traits of autism and can see the person beyond that. The show is well written as nobody lets him get away with every terrible thing he does, they call him out often and his response is often to apologise and that’s that. When you view Sheldon through the lens of autism, I’d hope you’d have a different take on it.

a fan of the show, i can understand how sheldon is and to many its off putting but in general sheldon is correct, and he can be a good asset, but i think its more peoples egos that are effected by sheldon that puts them off

Just watching an episode of Royle Family now. Some classic lines from Denise, who is about 5 weeks pregnant: "I'm trying not to overdo it" and "we're getting an intercom for when the baby arrives so when it cries we don't have to go all the way upstairs to tell it to shut up!" 🤣

I love Denise 🥹 Caroline Aherne was a very talented lady.
