Can writers of biographies really make that much money that they decamp to a very naice part of NY regularly to write? Or are we assuming he’s old money(dishevelled British cliche) and it’s not his main income?
Like poor cuckholded Jamie in Love Actually who went abroad to write and hired in help to clean around him.
I know, fictional…

Ok, I'm watching SATC and I'm up to series 4 and Carrie has just got email. How was she getting her columns from her laptop to the newspaper before? Printing them out and taking them over to the office?

Going completely from memory on this one, but your comment makes me think of the motherboard episode…Carrie is devastated and Aiden doesn’t get why, but buys her a lovely new laptop/ anyway…actually, is that the same ep when Miranda’s mum died? Or am I now mixing all up in my head. I refuse to google, I like to think of them as SATC core memories.

i guess he earns maybe 100k advance? Pos some more for prize money. So yes maybe family money tho he is in a dark dingy basement with mutton

'I used to think separate bedrooms meant there was no love/ sex but it makes perfect sense.'

We've done separate bedrooms for the past few years and it's brilliant. Lots of lovely sleep, no snoring or duvet stealing, my own space. We go to bed together and read for a while, then he goes to the lovely spare bed and I stay out. Can't recommend enough

Oh how very Gilded Age! I LOVE this!

I feel the need to defend the writers! I love it 😂 I love the writer guy being mr perfect cliche and even already lives in the house. Big had a cigar, this one has a pipe - fine by me. The friends all seem about right for women in their 50s with crazy money and ok Miranda has changed but haven’t we all?! It’s fun and bonkers. Would like Steve to pop in.

I feel the same!

Yes, the same episode - My Motherboard, My Self.

sweetpickle2 · 16/07/2025 10:02

“After all computers crash, people die, relationships fall apart... the best we can do is breathe and reboot.”

Only Carrie could compare her computer dying to her best friend's mum dying.

Lottapianos · 16/07/2025 10:06

'Yes, the same episode - My Motherboard, My Self'

I love that episode. I always cry when Carrie joins Miranda walking out of the church at her mother's funeral

The crazy floral display 🤣 'theyre supposed to say we love you and we're here for you, not you're dead, let's disco!'

I love it too, but more for the scene with the bra fitting lady comforting Miranda. A stranger being kind to a stranger. Women helping women. Goes hand in hand for me with Samantha making sure the nun waiting for chemo gets an appointment too. And Miranda taking care of a confused Mary. And Magda's love and support for Miranda from the outset (even if a bit nosey and judgmental).

Ah yes, that's lovely 😊

Such a good episode.

"I'm not going to find my orgasm in this town."

sweetpickle2 · 16/07/2025 10:25

This actually just illustrates how horrendous AJLT is in comparison to the original SATC- I can't imagine anyone will be quoting lines from it off the top of their head 25 years from now!

I have enjoyed this season so much more but god I want Aidan gone

ILoveBrum · 16/07/2025 12:13

Me too @foxlover47

PurplebeadedFendi · 16/07/2025 12:15

Well the trailer for Friday is out, and awful Aiden is back. But I think Carrie looks unhappy, and hopefully has the ick now.

foxlover47 · 16/07/2025 12:16

@ILoveBrum their whole relationship is just ridiculous now isn’t it

Pemba · 16/07/2025 12:28

You know I used to like Aiden in SATC and I thought Carrie was awful to him then. Constantly returning to Big, who treated her so badly. I was never a Big fan really.

But I can see why people don't like Aiden now. He's very controlling around his kids and he's placing ridiculous demands on Carrie. Is he seeking revenge for what happened years ago?

But some of you have always hated Aiden I think?

I liked early Aiden when he was sanding Carrie's floors and making his lovely furniture. Also loved Pete. But she had way more chemistry and more in common with Big. Carrie is not a country Mary Sue Betty Lou!

Carrie was horrible to Aiden. Especially letting Big call her at all hours and then inviting him up to Suffern! But now Aiden is getting his revenge by treating her like his puppet.

sweetpickle2 · 16/07/2025 12:33

He was always controlling- made her give up smoking, pushed her to get engaged when she wasn't ready etc.

She was absolutely in the wrong for cheating with Big and then trying to make them be friends after they got back together (wild honestly) but he wasn't nice from the get go.

Holluschickie · 16/07/2025 12:34

Rewatching SATC I sometimes wonder if Big was as horrible as I thought. He just didn't want commitment. Carrie did. That's all.

sweetpickle2 · 16/07/2025 12:39

As Carrie says herself in that episode on the train where she tries to sleep with Big- "You were unavailable, and very clear about that!"

Lottapianos · 16/07/2025 12:39

'Rewatching SATC I sometimes wonder if Big was as horrible as I thought'

I think he was horrible. As she said herself, one minute he was all over her and the next he was pushing her away, and he picked her up and put her down at his own convenience for years. And he jilted her on their wedding day! 😯 I was FUMING at the end of that film when they got back together and got married his way at City Hall. Ugh

Carrie yelling at him in the street that she was moving to Paris should have been the end of their story.

sweetpickle2 · 16/07/2025 12:41

"he picked her up and put her down at his own convenience for years"- he did, but she was also an insufferable pick me who allowed him to do so.

I also don't personally agree that was a 'jilting', he came to his senses about 2 seconds down the street! He tried to talk to her about his concerns the night before and she dismissed them.
