Ok, I take back what I said. I am watching again and loving every moment! It feels a bit like watching old home videos of family long gone. All the memories come flooding back with nostalgia.
In today’s episode Jim referred twice to Scott being upstairs, despite there clearly being no upstairs in that house 😂 Well, the garage is downstairs but I don’t think we ever saw that. The living space is all one floor!
Kim Taylor’s storyline is a lot more “wow” for a daytime TV programme than I remember, perhaps went over my head at the time as I was a child watching then.
The eventual storyline of Paul being the father of her twins is all the more ridiculous when you see these episodes now. She’s 15, and a young 15 at that, whereas Paul is clearly an adult. She’s unsure about sex with Scott, yet we are supposed to believe years later that she had sex with Paul - we don’t ever see this happen by the way. It’s suggested that another boy is the father when Scott questions it.
They also tweaked her parents years later - they are her parents now, completely ignoring her ethnicity, but when she returns years later as an adult I’m sure there was a reference to her father being an adoptive father or step father.
I loved the mention today from Lucy about getting a puppy for her next birthday. I can’t wait for the arrival of Bouncer!!
What I’m really enjoying is just how “normal” it is. No character is overly dramatic, no storyline is extreme, the adults have jobs and go to work, the kids go to school. They are normal people living a normal life on a street. This was part of its big appeal back in the 80s.
