Samantha Barks is doing well, especially considering she is very pregnant, I have a cousin who is a classically trained singer and it can affect the voice I think.

the80sweregreat · 08/05/2025 22:09

Samantha Barks is very good!
I do like this song though ..

EleanorReally · 08/05/2025 22:09

I liked dad's army, man from ghosts was good

littlbrowndog · 08/05/2025 22:09

She is good and yeah 9 months pregnant

Why are all the singers oversinging and all being weird

If that's what happening it's probably down to the acoustics being a bit dead.

I disagree

RaraRachael · 08/05/2025 22:08

There's been a lot of the "Anyone can sing" ideology over recent years.

No they can't.

Britain's Got Talent, X factor, etc., have a lot to answer for

littlbrowndog · 08/05/2025 22:11

The letters was the best bit and also the stories

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 08/05/2025 22:11

I want to know what Charles and Harry were talking about, that's the happiest Charles has looked since I turned on.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 08/05/2025 22:11

Changedusernameforthis2 · 08/05/2025 22:10

I disagree

I haven't seen any of this concert but sing in an acapella choir so know they affect things.

Evenstar · 08/05/2025 22:13

It can be harder to sing outdoors, but I think some of the singing was quite poor. The White Cliffs of Dover was shockingly bad

Charles and Camilla looked like they literally had gritted teeth during most of it.

Edited

Yeah of course but the over singing was stylistic not technical

Breame · 08/05/2025 22:16

I think all of the music selected should have been the wartime music that was played at the time. Music must have been so important to everyone then. Didn’t seem like much though went into it.

Yes this would have been better

ChallaMama · 08/05/2025 22:19

I think it was absolutely beautiful and done so well. Really moving stories. Lest We forget their sacrifice for our freedom.

Littleguggi · 08/05/2025 22:25

I too thought the whole concert was amazing, I loved the stories and the singers. I thought the letters were very emotional and the song by Freya Ridings was a perfect backdrop to it.

AuroraCake · 08/05/2025 23:00

I really enjoyed it after what I thought were useless jubilee and coronation concerts. Very well done and all the performances done by proper professionals. It’s a lie we tell ourselves these days that everyone can act, sing, play music, perform. No they can’t. Proper paid people can and very good amateur's. It is lovely to see a show performed and created to be top notch. But then everyone thinks they can do everything these days.

Itisjustmyopinion · 08/05/2025 23:02

Samantha is one of my favourite singers so glad she was chosen to close the show and she did amazingly to sing like that at 9 months pregnant

Also glad it wasn’t Katherine Jenkins - they usually like to drag her out for things like this

I did enjoy watching Camilla looking like she wanted to be anywhere else. She does have the resting bitch face down to an art at these events

EleanorReally · 09/05/2025 06:14

i agree about some of the singing and i had to mute the tv when Toploader came on, but i guess it got people dancing.
all those people sitting in blankets, must have been cold

RabbitsRock · 09/05/2025 06:31

We enjoyed it but it was definitely random! I loved Tom Walker - beautiful song. The Darkness murdered their most well known song! I thought Fleur East sounded like she had a sore throat. I had to google Calum Scott & he wasn’t the right choice for “ White Cliffs of Dover”.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 09/05/2025 08:39

I've now watched the concert and think only Justin of the Darkness oversang, but then he's not a singer on a par with the others. There were voices I wasn't keen on, but the performances were good and singing outside is always challenging. I wonder who was lined up as potential stand in for Sam Barks as she's so heavily pregnant?

the80sweregreat · 09/05/2025 09:28

I’ve heard of Sam barks , but I’ve never heard her sing.
She was good.
It was a random show, but they have to try and cater for everyone. I was surprised that Ed Sheeran wasn’t there as he is a Royal favourite usually.

I thought John Newman had retired. I like him but he was rusty and nervous!

Not retired, but he does more DJ sets these days than meowing singing. I like him. Seen him live a few times and always been good value.

I think there's been too much moaning about Jon Newman, the Darkness, Toploader (all acts from the last 25 years so not that new) and Calum Scott & Tom Walker. I was more irritated by Roman Kemp saying that he could hear Sweet Caroline. That has nothing to do with the war, football, or most things but is a horrid earworm that's yelled and chanted at absolutely everything these days.
