Can I speak with someone who has already watched Fake?

I enjoyed it but expected more swindling. I don’t under stand why he never told any money from her so what was his end game? Where did he get all the cash from? Was he getting any from any of his other women? I don’t know there was something unsatisfactory about the ending. There were red flags all over him but he didn’t seem creepy enough to me if that makes sense?

Yeah I found it ended flat

i THINK he didn’t end up taking the money as he wanted it for a deposit to but for his mothers house?? But it was so unclear

and then the stuff with the Chinese scam was unresolved and unexplained

have you watched the Eric bana one on the same theme? I felt fake was basically a poor copy of that

I was annoyed at the end

MrsPlantagenet · 06/05/2025 08:38

We watched it.

Not really sure what to make of it. I wanted to shake Birdie, she was fairly pathetic and needy throughout. Any woman less completely desperate would’ve binned him off very quickly. And blocked him from her phone!

EachandEveryone · 06/05/2025 17:56

I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Nothing was really explained and was that a set up at the showing of the house?

The country mansion - I think all the other people
were real and he presumably pretended that he had the money to buy jt

it was a close miss for me as a show

EachandEveryone · 06/05/2025 18:32

But she was told it was sold months ago by the estate agent

The showing of the house was months before that phone call. That was after the wedding where she was shown the newspaper artifle
thst it had been sold. There was quite a few months before the visit to the house and the scam about getting money for it it/the wedding. It was all very unclear though

EachandEveryone · 06/05/2025 18:37

Ah. Thank you. Honestly the way she was trying to get the money back for the flowers was so embarrassing. So, what was the con then? Who was giving him money

I think he wanted the money because it was the samw day that his mothers Josie’s being auctioned and he wanted it so he could put down a deposit so he could bid.

I THINK. But yeah I don’t get why he didn’t just push on and get the 100k

TweetingHurricane · 06/05/2025 18:39

So many questions

Why didn’t he scam money from her?
How could he afford the expensive stuff?
Why so many women fell for it?
How did he manage to set meetings with high up people and so many seemed to know him and respect him?

2024onwardsandup · 06/05/2025 19:00

It just felt like so much had been chopped out

2024onwardsandup · 06/05/2025 19:01

And intend they kept in extraordinary amount of her going through melodramatic emotional turmoil. I mean - they certainly explained her back story enough. But I think too much!

EachandEveryone · 06/05/2025 20:18

Honestly it was rubbish really.

I thought it was rubbish, I couldn’t warm to Birdie, which was the problem for me. I know her mother was awful, but that aside she was just was so drippy.

She looked so miserable all the time even before being conned, and he was so softly spoken it was irritating 🤣

I wouldve preferred it if hed been more sinister. I feel bad now as my mum has just started watching it.

i didnt recognise Madge from Neighbours!

I though it was a pointless article to have written.

Bloody hell I didn’t spot her either, I spotted Lynn Scully who looked fabulous but sadly died soon after

2024onwardsandup · 06/05/2025 23:22

Oh who did Lynn scully play???

I didn’t realise it was Madge until the last scene in the office. She’s looking great!

yeah and then she did this article … and … he left a voicemail message. No idea what happened with the other woman…and yeah so what.

i thought it was a fine watch to pass the time

EachandEveryone · 07/05/2025 01:39

I’ve just watched the The Four Seasons which is lovely just incase anyone is looking for something good.

OP posts:
AsIsaidearlier · 07/05/2025 07:05

Yes I couldn’t understand why he didn’t take the money of her when he had the opportunity to. Birdie was a really annoying person but I suppose she was suffering from anxiety.
Loved Four Seasons have just finished watching it. Great Acting.

She played toveys mum, the one who was in the kitchen making food when they all arrived for the wedding.

EachandEveryone · 07/05/2025 08:09

What a gorgeous wedding that was. I would love to visit one day.

Yeah, all of this. Lots of unanswered questions. I was so confused by some of it, and wondered if it was just me! 😆

Also agree with the poster saying that Birdie was infuriating. So meek and weak and needy. Was her mum to blame for pushing her into seeing him again? She did see him once and turn away.

I was gripped by it all the way through, but also disappointed/dissatisfied by it, by the end! 😂

cardboardvillage · 07/05/2025 15:17

Why didn’t she ever look at his social media before the incredibly long and drawn out wedding scene?

Oh god yeah I hadn’t thought of that

she really was such a drip

i suppose that because romance scams target vulnerable women - but god she was self absorbed

Carriedoesntlivehereanymore · 08/05/2025 19:29

Also…why did he pay to fly in the day AFTER the wedding just to have breakfast with everyone and then leave straightaway? Didn’t make sense at all!
