I enjoyed it but expected more swindling. I don’t under stand why he never told any money from her so what was his end game? Where did he get all the cash from? Was he getting any from any of his other women? I don’t know there was something unsatisfactory about the ending. There were red flags all over him but he didn’t seem creepy enough to me if that makes sense?

Yes Birdie is portrayed very needy desperate and naive. She should have done a background check on him right from the off when her colleague suggested it. Very sense.

I am loving it on catch up though. On episode 7 and finding it very enjoyable.

I actually really loved it! Birdie's mother conditioned her to accept this type of destabilising figure in her life, constantly undermining her wrapped up in respectability.

Birdie's fundamental problem was lack of self trust, which she then projected onto external relationships.

Her therapist was awful, pushing her to deny her own intuition, ignore red flags and trust someone clearly not worthy of that trust.

It seemed like he was a money scammer at first but in the end he was a fantasist, a compulsive liar narcissist type person who loved playing games and having power.

The "eyes" comment at the beginning to Birdie and then to his next victim at the end was showing this power play dynamic.

He constantly destabilised Birdie, making her question herself then feel guilty, just like her mother did.

I really enjoyed it but part of that was probably because when I lived in Victoria, I worked near where the beach scenes were shot so it was nostalgic for me. Yes it was flawed, lots of gaps & things that didn't add up. I kind of filled in the gaps myself. Did he maybe con his ex business partner & live off the proceeds? Max out credit cards? He was living like a swagman when not cocklodging elsewhere so no overheads. Was he sponging off his ex when he was with her? Maybe his mum bankrolled him. He was very delusional, a liar & fantasist for sure but didn't seem like an actual money scammer. It was based on a true story so be interesting to get more info on that.

I enjoyed it. I read that it's based on a true life memoir although there may of course be dramatic license jn the series. He was a fantasist and a compulsive liar who enjoyed manipulating and controlling his victims, that was where he got his kicks.
