I watched most of the first episode but I found the premise kinda unbearable (even though it’s based on a true story!)

purpleme12 · 15/04/2025 15:05

No but is it worth watching?

FanofLeaves · 15/04/2025 15:06

I am watching it, and enjoying it as something to watch in the evenings, but I find the guy who plays the dad barely watchable, I think he’s a shockingly poor actor.

EasterParadeHats · 15/04/2025 15:26

Well I found it bizarre and yes I enjoyed it but I don't want to ruin it I just thought at one part she had gone to Canada and then that didn't seem to follow.

OP posts:
Morporkia · 15/04/2025 15:32

I managed about half of the first episode, I usually give a series at least 2 episodes. But this was just unwatchable, due to the awful acting.

EasterParadeHats · 15/04/2025 17:59

I have to say I haven't noticed it!
I made a mistake I watched 5 episodes and it looked like one could be the last one and when I googled it said 5 episodes so I think my queries will be resolved in it.its a remarkable story

I just finished this and enjoyed it

It's a very interesting story and Ellen Pompeo was great

LadyWhitwell · 16/04/2025 14:17

I'm loving this. Love Ellen Pompeo playing another role and the actress playing Natalia Grace is good.

Where have you watched the last episodes, Disney plus only seems to have the first 6?

I was about to mention this! Episode 6 definitely didn't feel like the finale.
Just checked and IMDB lists 8 episodes.

pinkflamingo83 · 16/04/2025 16:01

I think it is 8 in total, but they haven't all been released. I have only seen 5 and am now rushing to Disney + to see if 6 is available.

I have quite enjoyed it and thought the twist in episode 5 where the story is told from Natalia Grace's point of view is interesting.

The guy he plays is just like him though , if you've ever watched the documentary about this case he comes off so weird

TuffTops · 16/04/2025 16:54

I found episode 5 a tough watch. I knew the real story so found the early episodes hard as I couldn’t help sympathising with the ‘mum’. I like to think that the uk adoption process provides a better safety net for all involved.

Yup, just about to come back to the thread and say that after I watched a clip of the real CB on YouTube! Oh my good god what an awful man, he comes across as absolutely nuts.

TheCryingTheBitchAndTheFloordrobe · 16/04/2025 18:03

I just read the Natalia Grace Wiki page (I know, I know) as the name range a faint bell but I couldn't remember any details. What a bizarre and awful story. The Bennets sound highly dubious.

EasterParadeHats · 16/04/2025 20:43

@LadyWhitwell what do you mean Eleanor playing another role please

Oh ok I thought you meant she's playing two roles in this 😁 because the church lady also looks a little like her.

Saw episode 6 today it's very confusing and but well done because it seems everyone was confused.
How could an 8 year old end up living in an apartment alone, how many tests did she have? Was the allusion that Bennet's first doctor would sign or do anything for them? They said she's got adult teeth but the other doctor said she's got baby teeth.

The Curious Case of Natalia Grace. It’s a documentary on it but everyone involved offers up a lot of information.

Shocking because EVEN IF she was an adult (and I don’t think she was, I think she was a very troubled child) she had zero understanding of how to care for herself, at all, because she’d never done it! No life skills, no street smarts, and the apartment was in no way suitable for her needs either. It’s absolutely shocking that they just abandoned her like that, of course she wasn’t going to be able to manage.

It was a doc I watched a while ago , I think it was called the curious case of natalia grace , it's an interesting doc if you can find it the dad gets crazier and crazier it has interviews with him over the course of a few years and one of the kids , honestly I still don't know what to believe about this case

EasterParadeHats · 17/04/2025 09:07

Surely re what to believe depends on her real age if she was younger than 8 when she first went with the Bennet's and then 8 when she did independent living.
I know her condition makes the age thing unclear but I'm still confused after all the tests before they said she's 22? It's doesn't make sense this was quite recently Jake can't they have got it' so wrong?

I’ve watched the first 6 episodes, there’s 2 left to come out on Disney. The woman playing the role of Natalia's is amazing.

Spoiler Alert

The basic premise is-
They adopt Natalia when she is around 7. The adoption agency folds shortly after. There is some behaviour issues/lashing out and the parents believe Natalia to be older than originally stated. Kris (mum) is a ‘expert’ on children with disabilities. A year after she moved in they start the process of determining her age a doctor agrees she’s an adult . A judge alters her birth certificate to say she’s 22 and the parents rent her an apartment to live independently. The parents then emigrate to Canada leaving her behind. She gets kicked out of that apartment and the parents move her to another apartment, shortly after moving in a woman befriends her and she moves in with the woman and her family. And her benefits get transferred to them. At a doctors appointment scans show she is a child. This is about two years after she was originally adopted.

That’s the story so far but obviously there’s more info on the internet and there’s a documentary about her.
