Oooh! I have another episode to watch! 🥳

FraterculaArctica · 01/04/2026 13:55

This one was sold as a story of overcoming debt/unfortunate job loss, but honestly most people can barely manage to support 2 kids on 2 incomes, never mind 5 on a single income. They were a lovely family but their life choices left them incredibly vulnerable.

PearlsTeapot · 01/04/2026 19:07

Their life choices have given them a happy family, they said dad is financially supporting the family now so why the judgement? They're happy, mum is looking to go back to work, I think good for them.

AtIusvue · 02/04/2026 09:51

I’ve noticed with this series, that the houses don’t seem that bad. A bit messy, a bit chaotic but nothing abnormal.

Last episode I even commented to my husband, for having 5 kids under 9, it doesn’t seem that bad.Yes, all houses needed a clear out but so far each episode has been a bit disappointing in terms of the change. They need to pick families with real problems with cluttering, hoarding and spending. These episodes have just felt like a spring clean. There was a couple episodes last series too. They need to stop looking for sad stories and just focus on sad storage.

Also think it’s turning a little into changing rooms, with some of the decor choices and they are hanging the doors so that they open like cupboards, to cheat and give the illusion that there’s more space.

Ohcrap082024 · 02/04/2026 11:45

Just watching this week’s episode. They are a lovely family with 5 great kids. But, by goodness, this is a good example of how in this day and age, it is near impossible for a family to live off one salary. Unless that salary is six figures.

Daisyrainbows · 01/04/2026 13:44

I didn’t like the purple colour drench room. Also agree 3 teenage boys in that room is so so unfair

I agree, @Daisyrainbows - I can’t see how it will be sustainable for all three of them to be in that room once they are not little boys any more. At the beginning they said that the mum was currently a student, so I assume they are hoping they’ll be able to afford something bigger once she qualifies.

But as we are constantly told on this site... job losses happen. It's hardly uncommon. And the dad said himself that then family and friends had to bail them out. It was clearly very stressful for the family, not all "happy".

BeckyBismuth · 02/04/2026 17:02

I didn't know "colour drench" was even a phrase until I read it here last week.

RaraRachael · 02/04/2026 17:05

Does colour drench just mean that the whole room is painted in the same colour?

Yes, it seems to be very much a thing at the moment, I don’t like it though.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/04/2026 18:22

I wish there was a service I could pay for, where someone would pack up my entire house, and spread it out in a warehouse, so I could go through and declutter properly - it looks so much easier than doing it a bit at a time, at home.

I can just imagine Stacey telling me I’d got over 1000 books - but there is no way I could get rid of half of them.

I’d pay for that too!

Me too! Just not the filming part 🤣

You’d have to have the 2 day limit as well to focus the mind. I’d also pay extra for Stacey and Dilly 😂

RaraRachael · 02/04/2026 19:43

I'd love to work for a firm that helps people deviated their homes. I think it would be very satisfying.

Yet another parents bedroom I'd immediately want to redecorate. So gloomy. I like my bedroom light and airy. I wonder if they consult them at all on colour schemes.

ExtraDecluttering · 02/04/2026 23:35

Sorry didn't mean to quote, late night tired phone fingers

RaraRachael · 02/04/2026 23:38

Stupid autocorrect changing declutter to deviated. Doesn't even make sense!😡

For seven people on a lower salary it would be tough. Having a big family is presumably a choice
though.

99point6 · 04/04/2026 11:08

Seeing the original work from home set up in the entrance hall in front of the washing machine and dryer I really felt for the mother. It looked like something a hundred AIBU threads have been written about. "AIBU to hate it when DH WFH?". Impossible to expect her to keep them quiet with those ages.
His employer wouldn't have been that impressed. Bedroom set up was marginally better but looked cramped and I don't remember seeing the monitors. Also not best practice from sleep hygiene point of view. I thought he might get a garden office but Rob has to do kitchen and bedroom woodwork.

PearlsTeapot · 04/04/2026 14:44

He’s going to be a million times happier in the bedroom where he can shut the door on the kids and just be present in meetings.

DW had a not as bad but similar set up during Covid, squished into our dining room and she just had to make do. We do what we do! She now has an office and life is much better but we were able to move house.

Ulysees · 04/04/2026 15:27

I've just watched. I quite liked the bedroom. Living room colour scheme wasn't my cup of tea but they liked it.

Lovely family though.

there were curtains to hide office in bedroom, the boys bunks could easily be painted navy and grey or similar as they get older.
\i am the eldest of five we just studied in dinign table after dinner in the evening my parents kept the littler ones in living room so they didn't disturb us, simliar set up a set of bunks and single in the largest bedroom, parents in middle room set of bunks in third bedroom 4 girls and youngest was a boy I had left home by the time he was old enough to need own room when he had smallest room it worked fine , we all studied together on dining table every night we all got good grades and into uni our arents supported education,
in an ideal world maybe every child would have own room but it is a want not a need, I'm still pretty close to my sisters though we live in 3 different countries now

Yes. I’ve just done it to DS’s room and I really like it but I’ll never paint a ceiling that doesn’t actually need painting again! The only benefit was not having to do as much masking. Doesn’t matter where you accidentally get paint if the whole room is going to be the same colour.

This is lovely and what I was saying earlier in the thread. The family will find space.
