It has been confirmed that Ten Pound Poms season 2 will begin on Sunday 9th March at 8pm on BBC One with episodes to air weekly.

Michelle Keegan reprises her role as nurse Kate Thorne in the second instalment, alongside returnees Faye Marsay and Warren Brown

In the trailer, which I Havnt seen yet - viewers can watch on as Robbie shares a tender moment with Kate as they rekindle their friendship

while a new character – Benny Bates (Marcus Graham) – is introduced with some words of wisdom for Terry.

The official synopsis for season 2 reads: "After a challenging first year in Australia, series two follows nurse Kate Thorne (Michelle Keegan) and the Roberts family (led by Faye Marsay and Warren Brown) into 1957 on their adventure down under, each determined against all odds to achieve their slice of the Australian dream.

"As Kate, Annie and Terry settle into their new lives, they each struggle to reconcile their hopes for the life they were promised with the harsh realities they face at Galgownie."

There are also some new characters joining for season 2, as the Skinner family arrive from Ireland "ready to enjoy their new lives in the sunshine".

Further casting includes Rob Collins (Mystery Road) as Ron, Leon Ford (Elvis) as Bill, Declan Coyle (Long Black) as Stevie, Stephen Curry (Hounds Of Love) as JJ, Hattie Hook (Savage River) as Pattie, Finn Treacy (The Portable Door) as Peter, Emma Hamilton (The Tudors) as Sheila and Cheree Cassidy (Underbelly) as Marlene.

I didn’t think Patty’s Mum looked too keen on adopting Mary, although i expect they will.
And why on earth did Sheila go to her ex’s house by herself! I knew she was going to be kidnapped or something. I don’t know if JJ will be able to get her out of the psychiatric hospital again.

purpleme12 · 14/04/2025 20:52

Patty's mum won't have looked pleased because they wanted the court to award in Patty's favour

I actually didn't forsee that happening to Sheila... Although perhaps I should have from the comments on here!

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/04/2025 20:57

I think they will adopt. Better them then a stranger

Annoying it finished open ended . I think they will agree to adopt baby Mary as it'll be in name only , Pattie will look after her as she has done so far I guess .

There has to be a series 3 !

CurbsideProphet · 16/04/2025 22:23

I caught up tonight. Felt a bit rushed. Michelle Keegan had her baby last month, but maybe they're planning to film the next series early next year and show it a bit later in 2025. Assuming there is a series 3! It was too long between 1 and 2 for me, I had completely forgotten the extra storylines like Sheila, JJ, and the chap who was doing up the beach hut but never seemed to interact with anyone other than the Irish woman.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/04/2025 22:53

Tho can’t imagine she will want to leave baby or go back to work for a year so May be a very long time for s3

or she will fly out with baby and nannies

Yes I was thinking maybe there's a plan for Michelle, baby, husband Mark, and maybe her mum to all go to Australia together for series 3. I hope there is a plan for series 3; we waited so long for series 2 and I invested time reminding myself of what had happened in series 1!

Taytocrisps · 07/05/2025 23:09

I recorded Series 2 and watched it over the past week or two.

I had reservations about the first series and I still have reservations about the show overall.

The bad characters are really over the top - Terry's colleague in the first series, his boss in the second series, Sheila's husband etc. They're very one dimensional.

The Irish family are only in Australia a wet weekend, yet somehow the recently bereaved widow has formed a romantic attachment with Ron. Also, maybe I'm a little sensitive because I'm Irish, but it seems like the writers ticked every national stereotype box - portraying the Irish family as drinkers, thieves, liars etc.

Kate's story has developed at a nice pace and I liked the will they or won't they engagement story.

I thought Terry was going to leave Annie for the blonde lady. I didn't anticipate that Annie had had a liaison during the war and all would be revealed.

I'm surprised Sheila still wants to go back to England. It made more sense in the first series. But she seems very happy with JJ now. Will she leave JJ behind and return to England with her daughters? Or are they planning to move to England together (with the girls)? But JJ seems quite happy managing the camp. Anyway, I'm sure JJ will hire his lawyer friend and come to Sheila's rescue. Which begs the question - why didn't he do that first time around?

I thought the Judge's decision was a realistic one for that time. Terry and Annie were a respectable married couple. If they adopted Mary, then that freed up Pattie to marry and raise a family. However, I thought the fact that Terry was unemployed and the family were effectively homeless, might have gone against them. Obviously Annie had a job, but the man would have been seen as the bread winner back then.

I liked the sense of camaraderie that developed in the camp. I guess it was a transient community in real life - residents would have been coming and going all the time.

It would be interesting to read accounts about the real experiences of British people who emigrated back then.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/05/2025 23:29

@Taytocrisps I think on thread of s1 a few people commented that they had done this or parents had

Episode 6 felt incredibly unfinished. I didn't realise that was the end of the series until catching up here. Boo!

It all felt very stressful tbh.

My favourite character is JJ but I couldn't stand him at first! I think his mum might turn out to be a goodun, after that ball games debacle.

And I just LOVE Faye Marsay in everything she does ❤️ although did wonder what's going on with her job in the last episode, it didn't seem to figure.

On a historical note, how long did people realistically stay in the camps before moving into a house? It seems they have no plan or prospect, despite both earning a wage.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/06/2025 06:51

Guessing they stayed in camps for years as couldn’t afford a house

I just read that there won't be a 3rd series.
Shame, as there were a lot of loose ends and i had ' invested ' a few hours of my life watching both series.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/10/2025 11:58

Oh no. Really ? Wonder if now she’s had a baby and too far for her to be away for months

I think that's one of the reasons, she said she wouldn't be available for a while to film. And there was a big gap between series 1 and 2 which led to a lot of criticism. Plus viewing figures halved for the second series.

NCTDN · 03/10/2025 13:16

That’s such a shame

madaboutpurple · 03/10/2025 21:16

I am so disappointed the series is finishing. I hope Danny the writer sorts out a new series which is as entertaining as ten pound poms was .I looked forward to each episode. If Danny reads this I would like to say Thanks for writing it. People were gripped by it each week.

kinkytoes · 03/10/2025 22:27

Why don't they find a new actress? Wouldn't be the first time one's been found in tv land. Not very fair on everyone else working on the show to cancel because of one person's unavailability.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/10/2025 07:35

Yes a new head or she is shown leaving/marrying the bloke who adores her
