3 part Murder mystery’s starts Sunday 2nd March and on weekly

The BBC has finally released the first trailer for its adaption of Agatha Christie's Towards Zero, and it's bound to get murder mystery fans excited.
By NATALIE KING (https://www.express.co.uk/journalist/123872/Natalie-King)

Set in 1936, the plot revolves around tennis star Nevile Strange (played by Oliver Jackson-Cohen), who finds himself embroiled in a scandalous celebrity divorce. He invites his former wife Audrey (Ella Lily Hyland) and new spouse Kay (Mimi Keene) to spend the summer at Gull's Point, his childhood home and the estate of his bedridden, yet formidable aunt Lady Tressilian (Anjelica Huston).

The 30-second trailer takes us to Saltcreek where we’re introduced to Lady Tressilian (Anjelica Huston), Inspector Leach (Matthew Rhys), family lawyer Mr Treves (Clarke Peters), British tennis star Nevile Strange (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) and the two ladies in his life: ex-wife Audrey (Ella Lily Hyland) and new wife Kay (Mimi Keene), lady’s companion Mary Aldin (Anjana Vasan), the estranged Thomas Royde (Jack Farthing), Nevile’s mysterious valet Mac (Adam Hugill), and Mr Treves’ ward Sylvia (Grace Doherty) .
England, 1936.

After a scandalous celebrity divorce, Nevile Strange and his ex-wife Audrey make the unthinkable decision to spend a summer together at Gull’s Point, their childhood home and the coastal estate of Nevile's aunt, Lady Tressilian.

With unfinished business between the former childhood sweethearts, plus the presence of Nevile’s new wife Kay, tensions are running high.

Add to this a long-suffering lady’s companion, a mysterious gentleman’s valet, an exiled cousin with a grudge, a venerable family lawyer, an inquisitive orphan and a French con man, and soon there will be murder.

A troubled detective must rediscover his purpose to untangle a toxic web of jealousy, deceit and dysfunction.

Can he solve the crime before another victim meets their death?

An explosive love triangle, a formidable matriarch and a house party of enemies. All compelled… Towards Zero.

This unusual setup inevitably leads to tensions, which are further exacerbated by the arrival of a resentful exiled cousin, an elderly lawyer, and a French conman.

Joining the cast are Matthew Rhys as Inspector Leach, and Clarke Peters, known for his role in The Wire, as Mr Treves, a long-time family friend. Adam Hugill from Sherwood will also feature in the drama as the enigmatic valet Mac.

I think the actors are all fine - they look good and the acting is good so I am happy with all that.

They do always change the plot - I assume writers see it as a challenge to try and improve on Christie's work. It isn't possible but people love a challenge - plus there's probably a lot of arrogance that their writing is better

Audrey in the book looks totally different from the television Audrey. She's tiny and delicate and pale, described as "a little like a ghost", and seems sad and lost. In this version, she looks glamorous and smirking!

Chrysanthemum5 · 07/03/2025 10:16

That is true @Clawdy so far Audrey is the character who seems totally different

I watched E2 earlier this evening as I watch the pottery throw down. It was a good episode

Anyone else can't get past Jack Farthing being that awful Warleggan in Poldark? Think it's because I've not seen him in anything else since.

The girl who pickpockets looks much more grown up this episode. Didn't recognise her at first

Prefer when it's a Miss Marple or Poirot doing the solving of the murder. Don't think Matthew Rhys is being much to that part

Yes and he still has that same expression

Good thing I recorded it to watch this afternoon or I would have fallen into a deep sleep. Still find it extremely tedious.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/03/2025 21:40

Havnt seen it all yet so haven’t read replies past 9.22

Was this story done as Miss Marple with Joan Hickson? I've seen them all and don't remember it

Chrysanthemum5 · 16/03/2025 13:38

It was done as Miss Marple with Geraldine mcewan. And actually a pretty good version where adding her in makes sense

Chrysanthemum5 · 16/03/2025 13:38

Im looking forward to the final episode!

Not with Joan Hickson as she only filmed the stories that did actually feature Miss Marple.

Geraldine McEwan appeared as Miss Marple in a version of this story though. They also shoehorned her in to other stories that didn't originally feature Miss Marple.

RaraRachael · 16/03/2025 14:22

Thanks. Thought I didn't recognise it but I didn't watch the Geraldine McEwan ones.

Cattery · 16/03/2025 14:28

The itv adaptation was much better

Me too

i honestly haven’t a clue who did it

OP posts:
Chrysanthemum5 · 16/03/2025 14:46

Well I know who did it in the book but so far a lot of the plot from the book is missing so I have no idea!
