3 part Murder mystery’s starts Sunday 2nd March and on weekly

The BBC has finally released the first trailer for its adaption of Agatha Christie's Towards Zero, and it's bound to get murder mystery fans excited.
By NATALIE KING (https://www.express.co.uk/journalist/123872/Natalie-King)

Set in 1936, the plot revolves around tennis star Nevile Strange (played by Oliver Jackson-Cohen), who finds himself embroiled in a scandalous celebrity divorce. He invites his former wife Audrey (Ella Lily Hyland) and new spouse Kay (Mimi Keene) to spend the summer at Gull's Point, his childhood home and the estate of his bedridden, yet formidable aunt Lady Tressilian (Anjelica Huston).

The 30-second trailer takes us to Saltcreek where we’re introduced to Lady Tressilian (Anjelica Huston), Inspector Leach (Matthew Rhys), family lawyer Mr Treves (Clarke Peters), British tennis star Nevile Strange (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) and the two ladies in his life: ex-wife Audrey (Ella Lily Hyland) and new wife Kay (Mimi Keene), lady’s companion Mary Aldin (Anjana Vasan), the estranged Thomas Royde (Jack Farthing), Nevile’s mysterious valet Mac (Adam Hugill), and Mr Treves’ ward Sylvia (Grace Doherty) .
England, 1936.

After a scandalous celebrity divorce, Nevile Strange and his ex-wife Audrey make the unthinkable decision to spend a summer together at Gull’s Point, their childhood home and the coastal estate of Nevile's aunt, Lady Tressilian.

With unfinished business between the former childhood sweethearts, plus the presence of Nevile’s new wife Kay, tensions are running high.

Add to this a long-suffering lady’s companion, a mysterious gentleman’s valet, an exiled cousin with a grudge, a venerable family lawyer, an inquisitive orphan and a French con man, and soon there will be murder.

A troubled detective must rediscover his purpose to untangle a toxic web of jealousy, deceit and dysfunction.

Can he solve the crime before another victim meets their death?

An explosive love triangle, a formidable matriarch and a house party of enemies. All compelled… Towards Zero.

This unusual setup inevitably leads to tensions, which are further exacerbated by the arrival of a resentful exiled cousin, an elderly lawyer, and a French conman.

Joining the cast are Matthew Rhys as Inspector Leach, and Clarke Peters, known for his role in The Wire, as Mr Treves, a long-time family friend. Adam Hugill from Sherwood will also feature in the drama as the enigmatic valet Mac.

Interesting way to start as opposed to the book

Hallelujah2020 · 02/03/2025 21:54

I thought it was brilliant and I’m going to try very hard to resist watching the other two immediately

zzpleb · 02/03/2025 21:58

Did they have massive false eyelashes in those days?

None of them have any charisma and, sorry for being shallow, the main three characters aren't attractive or even distinctive-looking.

I only know the ITV Marple version, not the book. I don't know why the BBC bothers making these versions - they're not a patch on Joan Hickson or ITV Marple versions.

CrushingOnRubies · 02/03/2025 22:00

Watched on iplayer it started earlier on there

Not read the book

Think the judge at the divorce hearing was channeling is inner John Burcow with his "ORDER"

JewelleryCat · 02/03/2025 22:00

Yes, I only know the Marple version too which I really liked but I’m finding this version quite slow. I hope it picks up a bit

NeartoNewquay · 02/03/2025 22:01

Just given up on this. The casting is terrible - Kay looks far too 21st Century and the Americans are failing at British accents. It's also completely lacking in feeling like the time in which it's set.

Chrysanthemum5 · 02/03/2025 22:05

I'm generally pretty forgiving of adaptations the only one recently which really failed for me was the ABC murders with John Malkovich which was absolutely awful

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/03/2025 22:13

How is the book diff ?

We watched 2 episodes tonight. It is still very slow and most confusing. Can't recommend it at all. What have they done to Angelica Huston's face 😳

JaneJeffer · 02/03/2025 22:17

I love it

I've been to all the locations in this production. Despite always page turning on a Christie book, nevertheless I shall refrain from binge watching. It's just so atmospheric and sinister plus the acting is superb. Special call out to the costumes which are all Oscar winning. Superb television.

No film adaptation of Agatha Christie has won an Oscar.

burnoutbabe · 02/03/2025 22:27

I love most Agatha Christie's but this one just made me think what? Do we even have a murder? The police chap just jumped. So not sure what the mystery is yet.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/03/2025 22:47

Yes seemed he jumped so not sure what murder

unless going to be 2deaths

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/03/2025 22:48

Can’t find a recap yet …..

burnoutbabe · 02/03/2025 22:50

The guardian review gives it 3/5 and seems to hint at other stuff that seems like it should have been end episode 1 but obviously will now be in episode 2. Odd!

JulesJules · 02/03/2025 23:04

Watched ep 1. Wish I could have watched it a double the speed. It's sooooo sloooow and full of eye acting from the cast, none of whom I find very convincing, loving Angelica though.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/03/2025 23:14

so we have

Neville
audrey ex wife
kay - new wife
Mary - lady T’s companion
a mysterious gentleman’s valet
Thomas - exiled cousin with a grudge
a venerable family lawyer
an inquisitive orphan
French con man

and soon there will be murder.

burnoutbabe · 02/03/2025 23:15

Who was the French con man? The gigalo from the hotel?

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/03/2025 23:28

Not sure. I copied that from google 😂

Ellmau · 02/03/2025 23:35

I thought it was quite good. Did they delay it from Christmas?

CrossPurposes · 03/03/2025 00:10

When will the teal and orange thing end? It is so distracting when even the whites of people's eyes are teal tinted.
