3 part Murder mystery’s starts Sunday 2nd March and on weekly

The BBC has finally released the first trailer for its adaption of Agatha Christie's Towards Zero, and it's bound to get murder mystery fans excited.
By NATALIE KING (https://www.express.co.uk/journalist/123872/Natalie-King)

Set in 1936, the plot revolves around tennis star Nevile Strange (played by Oliver Jackson-Cohen), who finds himself embroiled in a scandalous celebrity divorce. He invites his former wife Audrey (Ella Lily Hyland) and new spouse Kay (Mimi Keene) to spend the summer at Gull's Point, his childhood home and the estate of his bedridden, yet formidable aunt Lady Tressilian (Anjelica Huston).

The 30-second trailer takes us to Saltcreek where we’re introduced to Lady Tressilian (Anjelica Huston), Inspector Leach (Matthew Rhys), family lawyer Mr Treves (Clarke Peters), British tennis star Nevile Strange (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) and the two ladies in his life: ex-wife Audrey (Ella Lily Hyland) and new wife Kay (Mimi Keene), lady’s companion Mary Aldin (Anjana Vasan), the estranged Thomas Royde (Jack Farthing), Nevile’s mysterious valet Mac (Adam Hugill), and Mr Treves’ ward Sylvia (Grace Doherty) .
England, 1936.

After a scandalous celebrity divorce, Nevile Strange and his ex-wife Audrey make the unthinkable decision to spend a summer together at Gull’s Point, their childhood home and the coastal estate of Nevile's aunt, Lady Tressilian.

With unfinished business between the former childhood sweethearts, plus the presence of Nevile’s new wife Kay, tensions are running high.

Add to this a long-suffering lady’s companion, a mysterious gentleman’s valet, an exiled cousin with a grudge, a venerable family lawyer, an inquisitive orphan and a French con man, and soon there will be murder.

A troubled detective must rediscover his purpose to untangle a toxic web of jealousy, deceit and dysfunction.

Can he solve the crime before another victim meets their death?

An explosive love triangle, a formidable matriarch and a house party of enemies. All compelled… Towards Zero.

This unusual setup inevitably leads to tensions, which are further exacerbated by the arrival of a resentful exiled cousin, an elderly lawyer, and a French conman.

Joining the cast are Matthew Rhys as Inspector Leach, and Clarke Peters, known for his role in The Wire, as Mr Treves, a long-time family friend. Adam Hugill from Sherwood will also feature in the drama as the enigmatic valet Mac.

Dull as ditchwater. Matthew Rhys looks old. Sorry, I'm being shallow.

Piggywaspushed · 03/03/2025 07:08

I have read loads of AC but had never even heard of this one. I found it really really dull. All gorgeous style (with the fave Burgh Island location)and no substance. Nothing really happened and I felt the female leads were chosen for their gorgeous looks rather than ability - the main man could neither act nor was he particularly gorgeous. I fell asleep and one point and wasn't even sure what Matthew Rhys was doing in it...

I expect a Christie to at least have a death fairly early doors!

The guardian review gives it 3/5 and seems to hint at other stuff that seems like it should have been end episode 1 but obviously will now be in episode 2. Odd!

The golden rule these days is never read the reviews because they assume people have watched on iPlayer and comment on future episodes. It's very annoying.

When will the teal and orange thing end? It is so distracting when even the whites of people's eyes are teal tinted.

Hard agree. It must be a 15 year teal obsession by now!

I found it a bit slow but I'm willing to give it a chance. I think the book has a much better flow so I'm surprised they've changed it so completely.

But Agatha was Queen of these things and maybe people just feel the need to try to top her work - which isn't possible

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/03/2025 12:48

They always seem to change books

OP posts:
CrushingOnRubies · 03/03/2025 13:05

See I don't mind it being a bit slow. That time on a Sunday evening after a busy weekend I don't want complicated plots at breakneck speed

butterpuffed · 03/03/2025 13:39

I also thought it was slow , just watched ep 1 on iPlayer and was surprised to see it was near the end when nothing much had happened but still found it enjoyable .

Inspector Leach , looked like he jumped but maybe not....the family lawyer said at the beginning that murders should happen at the end but always seemed to be at the beginning..

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/03/2025 13:46

I thought it was poor. Book much better. Not sure we will bother with the other two episodes.

JaneJeffer · 03/03/2025 15:16

I was totally engrossed in it and I'm surprised so many people didn't enjoy it!

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/03/2025 15:37

Me too @JaneJeffer

but I haven’t read the book so have nothing to compare it to

Needhelp101 · 03/03/2025 17:35

Very slow but the costumes were amazing.

I have to say it really pisses me off when the plots are changed. Christie is one of the best plotters of all time, why change perfection?

Chrysanthemum5 · 03/03/2025 17:36

I really think that in this book the flow of the plot was perfect and grabbed attention right at the start and never let up. So I'm disappointed that they changed it but I am enjoying it

placemats · 03/03/2025 18:24

I like adaptations and I really felt that the sinister aspect of the book was captured perfectly.

Chrysanthemum5 · 03/03/2025 20:42

Must not watch second episode. Must be good and stick to TV pace 😂

Agree it was slow and I felt that Kay looked a bit too 'modern, IYKWIM, but I'll keep watching. I've not read the book so have nothing to compare to. I also agree that Matthew Rhys is looking older but I still would!

Poor and deleted it. The book is so much better!

Bluenotgreen · 06/03/2025 17:39

It feels like the plot is going to be greatly changed.

It was too “sexy” for my taste.

And Kay’s make up! Is it supposed to look awful?

Chrysanthemum5 · 06/03/2025 19:05

In a way I hope the plot is different because I know the plot of the book and it's nice to try to work it out

Ellmau · 06/03/2025 19:30

I've just started the book, and it does feel very different.

diddl · 06/03/2025 19:47

None of them have any charisma and, sorry for being shallow, the main three characters aren't attractive or even distinctive-looking.

I didn't make it through the first ep for this reason!

Kay's lipstick!

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/03/2025 20:55

I say this many times but why do they like a book so much that they make a tv drama out of it

but

then change the plot
