Anyone seen both seasons of The Diplomate on Netflix?

It's so brilliant.

Anyone want to talk about how well-written it is?

I love this.
For me The Diplomat, Slow Horses and The Morning Show are the best things on telly at the moment.

For me too. I wish they weren’t all out at the same time though and I could spread them out through the autumn into winter.

I agree on the Aidan Turner character. I think the writer wanted her back with Hal but didn’t want to write out Dennison so introduced an expendable love interest and it just didn’t really fit.

Finally finished S3 - I love The Diplomat!

Kate really annoyed me this season though but I think that’s intentional. She’s meant to be annoying, right? Hal has a line in one of the episodes that sums her up - ‘you don’t have to shit on every idea just to prove you’re a superior intellect’ which is spot on.

Hated the way she kept letting Eidra down.

Not sure why Thema was suddenly introduced this season. I can’t help but wonder if it’s more relevant, ie she turns out to be a political player or spy. The bit where Kate didn’t realise she’d met her before felt loaded.

All in all just great TV. Perfect balance of clever, tense, and totally bonkers. Can’t wait for S4.

Yes, this made me think it more likely that her motivations are suspicious, in that she had an easy way in, I suppose?

I was so confused by this too! I think it’s poor editing.

I’m all confused because he’s been in the Handmaid’s Tale and so that’s where I recognised him from. Totally forgot he was in the West Wing all those years ago!

He looks nothing like he did in the West Wing.

Then again, it was a long time ago.

I look nothing like I did when I first watched it.

@Thortour, I thought I had missed something so went back and re-watched and I hadn’t! I also found an aidan turner fans Facebook group and I hadn’t missed any other scenes! Some of his fans started watched the diplomat when he appears in episode 5 of series 3, it must be very confusing!

Think there was a “6 months later” heading put up on screen (forget which episode but after Hal went off to Washington and she stayed on as ambassador). Then Aidan Turner had (during the 6 months) become her lover and she explained it to someone as they had been working on some project/initiative together, which was a cover story for something spy-ish…

It would have been much better to see some build up in the relationship. Very odd

I don't understand why he didn't appear in an earlier episode, even just one or two scenes during a meeting alluding to a possible attraction between them. It just seemed odd that they were already hooking up when Hal arrived for the anniversary surprise.

And when he was feeding her all this insider knowledge was I the only one who thought "he is definitely a Russian spy" yet Kate just seemed to trust him absolutely. Again if there had been more background to their relationship this may have been more believable but it was just so jarring to me.

Just realised Season 3 has been released. I liked seasons 1 and 2 so binge watch Sunday ahead.
