I was very disappointed with this. Only watched one but not much in the way of laughs sadly. Not sure we will bother with the rest.

I felt the same after episode one but I've seen three now and it definitely gets better.

Theresidents · 06/02/2025 22:35

Watched it loved it

Bailiwitch · 06/02/2025 23:00

Yup - Ep 1 is the worst. Try the rest. It won’t take much time - they’re such short episodes. (Which is probably part of what makes the whole enterprise a bit underwhelming; not enough time to actually dig into anything.)

MabelMora · 06/02/2025 23:05

It's bloody hilarious! If you were Mal's ex would you really let him go only to end up with JJ?
Della cracks me up and Fi is unrecognisable from Line of Duty.
Quite touched by Felicity's nice moments towards Amanda...'How do I look?' 'Tip top!'
Not missing anyone from Motherland at all.

Bailiwitch · 06/02/2025 23:13

I’m wondering why Amanda and offspring couldn’t all go and live in Gangan’s spacious held onto through divorce house. They’re cramped, she’s lonely - surely it would have been the best solution.

Although then we’d never have met Mal. Or Della.

wipeywipe · 06/02/2025 23:14

Gan gan is too selfish surely

wipeywipe · 06/02/2025 23:15

I thought it was also referencing the boomer generation in their big houses getting saunas etc whilst their dc are cramped.

Oh yes, I couldn't place her

I posted on the other thread, I have watched 4 episodes and I don’t find it at all funny. A couple of lines maybe. The characters are jarring on me and it lacks flow, the chumminess amongst parents once kids move to high school isn’t realistic. Found it rather cringeworthy, Motherland it ain’t

wipeywipe · 06/02/2025 23:23

Sad times @Wexone

Gagaandgag · 06/02/2025 23:25

What’s happened to the rest of Anne’s family?

Maternityleavelady · 06/02/2025 23:38

Binged 4 episodes this eve while botching a Peppa Pig birthday cake for my daughter - loving it, I need to pace myself!

I totally agree.

Thankyouforthrdayz · 07/02/2025 00:09

Just finished. I seem to have something in my eye...brilliant, the characters gel as it goes on, I'll be watching it again. Johannesburg/your highness was a star turn. Who do we write to to get another series commissioned.

I just watched the first episode and I thought I might binge watch, but actually I'm going to enjoy it at a slower pace.

I really liked it. I think they took the most interesting Motherland character and gave her legs. It helps that her mum is Joanna Lumley because she is never not watchable.

I like how Amanda is out of her depth with the 'cool' characters and I like how the three of them got in the van at the end, which kind of echoed the threesome at the heart of Motherland (Julia, Kevin and Liz) even though Amanda approaches friendship differently - or doesn't see who her real mates might be. Anne is so bloody loyal to her, but it's funny. A good move.

I love how she has Anne in her phone as “Anne School Mum” like she’s just some random!

wipeywipe · 06/02/2025 23:15

Like Liz’s mum being pissed off at being expected to step in and be childcare for free and instead she’s off travelling and enjoying herself.

CurrentHun · 07/02/2025 01:30

I absolutely love it! Lucy Punch and Joanna Lumley together so brilliant. Also the Anne/Amanda relationship.

SprinkleOfSunak · 07/02/2025 06:29

I watched the first one last night, and it was a shock for me to hear the Motherland music at the beginning - so much so that I paused it and said out loud, ‘this really isn’t right, it should have different music.’ It actually made me feel annoyed that if they could use the music, and have 3 of the original cast back, then why couldn’t they just make Motherlmd instead?

I decided to continue to watch it, and it was slightly better than I’d anticipated, but did I find Amanda funny - no, not at all and never have done. For me it was the characters around her last night who were funny. I find her incredibly annoying and predictable, and was thinking the programme would be much better if you removed her and dropped the other Motherland characters in amongst these new ones and Anne and Joanna Lumley’s character (maybe she could own a shop or something),

Orangesinthebag · 07/02/2025 07:05

I found the getting a job episode funny. The "Co-lab" and the utterly bemused kitchen shop owner was great.

ClodHoppers · 07/02/2025 07:18

Watched the first episode last night - it did make me laugh. 'You don't pair Pork with Prosecco' actually made me laugh out loud.

I needed something stupid and distracting and it was perfect.

fingerbobz · 07/02/2025 07:28

Amanda never mentioned Chiswick. She specifically said W4...:so definitely not Acton

So has Anne moved to SoHa too?

I thought the Mother lived in Cheltenham

I don't know why im hung up on these details. It's clearly not real 😆
