All my friends are 40 somethings and they love it

lots of references that make sense.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 09/02/2025 09:06

my dd is mid 20s and loves it!

edit that to say it is Motherland she loves!

Nitpicking about this, that and the other just sucks the enjoyment out of it. Who cares if Hounslow is miles away from Harlesden, or Anne's other children were MIA? Just take it for what it was - a funny and entertaining watch with some very gifted comic actors.

I protest! Everyone enjoys a show in their own way - and for some people the dissection is half the fun. ((Speaking as someone who’s been on every single one of the 181 threads on a well known radio soap.)

If one can’t discuss a TV programme on a discussion forum … 🤷‍♀️

janeandmarysmum · 09/02/2025 09:57

Do you think she gave the car back??

MrsLargeEmbodied · 09/02/2025 09:58

no Johannes drove off in it @janeandmarysmum

I didn't notice! Too blown away by Anne's speech - I need to watch again.

Delatron · 09/02/2025 10:30

I think the whole series needs a rewatch from me. I don’t want to miss anything!

LaBelleSauvage123 · 09/02/2025 13:37

Just finished the series and loved it. Favourite parts: Amanda sneakily eating the sausage roll and Anne saying 'I know' when she told her they were delicious. Anne's speech at the end. Glorious.

SantasLargerHelper · 09/02/2025 13:51

I loved it. Actually preferred it to Motherland as I don't really like the main woman in that.

Thought it was very funny.

MoonWoman69 · 09/02/2025 14:19

I've been staying over at my friends this weekend, so I rewatched the whole series again last night, as she hadn't seen it. We both howled with laughter! Absolutely brilliant!
But I don't think we need the post mortem about what parts of London they're talking about, in the thread. It has no real bearing on the series, other than personal interest if you live in the area, I suppose. Which a majority of us probably don't 🤷🏼‍♀️

CoffeeWithHer · 09/02/2025 14:33

I binged it till 2am and I loved it! It’s up there with ML for me and I even welled up in the final episode (I may of been quite tired!) - I so hope there will be a second series in the making. The press I’ve read had been negative and I don’t know why - everyone I know has really enjoyed it and it’s overwhelming in favor on here too.

When Amanda sees Ann and is told she is on her way to a work meeting ‘pfffft course you are’- it’s these little quips that make the show.

My DD (18) has never watched ML so I’m starting again with her next week and I’m stupidly happy about it.

Edited

But some of us do and it is an interest. You are not gatekeeper to what we can discuss.

It is taken as a comedy. But people are allowed to discuss what they want to on here. Thats why its called a discussion forum.

Yes, 'I've got a PHD in Chemistry from Imperial' conversation made me laugh.

Yes this!

And Amanda's response ,'Yes well it's not really a degree is it?'

It was also quite poignant to find out Amanda only had 3 GCSEs because her mother was more bothered in pushing the superficial than academics. Explains why Amanda is so so insecure and consequently a try hard snob.

JSMill · 09/02/2025 15:23

I found the episode where Georgie isn't doing well at school really touching. Amanda wants better for her daughter. I did laugh at JL's attitude during the school meeting, rolling her eyes and making faces.

Also why she can't get a good job. Very poignant, but it motivated Georgie.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 09/02/2025 15:57

the actor playing her daughter Miley Locke, is such a good actress, brilliant in There she goes

SassK · 09/02/2025 16:45

Oh gosh i'm not feeling it 😬 I've watched two episodes, and I miss Kevin and Julia. The new couple are just annoying. Julia was annoying, but in a funny way. Maybe it'll get better.

Do persevere , I wasn’t that bothered about the first 2 in general but it did grow on me .

I think it does. I liked the character of the neighbour downstairs and his friendship with his son's stepdad. It's actually quite touching and funny.

CurrentHun · 09/02/2025 17:27

Generalising obviously but I think the drugs and booze shown aren’t far wide of the mark among wealthier middle class London Gen X adults.

Millennials are on the whole much more sober and into trying to be healthy, it is very marked difference. They blow their money on skincare and tweakments

MissNeverdonowrong · 09/02/2025 17:38

I’ve watched it all today and loved it. I liked Motherland a lot but I actually enjoyed this more. So many funny lines. Anne is fabulous in this.

Bailiwitch · 09/02/2025 17:49

I wonder how many posters on this thread finished their education with 3 GCSEs? Because, when you think about it, that’s an awful lot of stuff to go into adulthood not knowing - not having been taught, not having discovered in the sixth form, not having sat up arguing about all night with friends, or having to write an essay on at university.

And early adulthood is all about what you’re learning from your peers - their assumptions and struggles and family expectations, CVs and 15 interviews for one job and a hundred applications for a pupillage … I’m trying to imagine what Amanda’s life might have been like when she would have been speaking essentially a different language to almost everyone she knew of her own age.

I hadn’t really thought about it before, @CountTo10.

thisoldcity · 09/02/2025 18:10

I really like it and have now watched the first three episodes twice because dd came to stay and she hadn't seen it. We both laughed out loud at some of it. I think Lucy Punch is such a good actress and the physical comedy is so natural it's brilliant - wrestling with the 'high horse' and tripping over everything in her kitchen that was stuffed with her clutter from the main room. Anyone else watched her in 'Bloods'? She steals the scene every time with that I think.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 09/02/2025 18:23

I'd forgotten about Bloods. The whole cast was so good - Samson Kayo is hilarious - and Lucy's character was so cringe!
