I've only watched eps 1-3. It's enjoyable but I agree, different to Motherland.
It is baffling that the writers seem to have forgotten key character points particularly re Anne. Though I hadn't thought about it as a PP suggested, we living in 'Amandaland', so are seeing it through Amanda's self-absorbed lens. So Anne's personal details are blurry or downright wrong because Anne is a supporting character in Amanda's universe and Amanda just isn't interested to know what happens in other people's lives beyond what serves her own interests. It's an interesting viewpoint.
Plus the weird Harlesden/Hounslow thing. Did the writers think we wouldn't notice? Why not just make up a Harlesden or Willesden team name?
As a PP mentioned, why does Joanna Lumley live in London? She got the house in the divorce. She was divorced in the Mother's Day episode of Motherland, when she visited from Cheltenham. It seems unlikely that she remarried, relocated and divorced within in the last few years. Never mind being able to keep that house after such a short marriage. There has been no mention of Cheltenham at all so far. Same as the changes to Anne's house. It just feels like a continuity error, which makes me question whether we are being generous with the POV stuff for Anne. I know it's a light comedy show but these things are irritating. When you carry key characters over, you should make sure you carry their backstory over too!
Mind you, they were sods for doing it in Motherland too. Julia's mother was supposed to live in Leatherhead, but we were supposed to believe that she provided regular wraparound care for the kids. Leatherhead - Acton is a good hour+ (not in rush hour school run time).
Back to Amandaland. I'm not a fan of Della & Fi either. I realise they are to demonstrate Amanda's social climbing ambitions aren't dead, despite her slide down the social snake, but ugh. Della's sneering annoyance is too much and something about the Fi character gets on my wick. I don't find either of them all that likeable.
