The Traitors #9 - 'why am I still here?'

1000 replies

witchycat2 · 23/01/2025 08:31

Just two episodes to go until we find out who will be victorious - the traitors or the faithfuls.

Will Alexander save the faithfuls?

Will Charlotte lead Freddie like a lamb to the slaughter?

Who will feel Leanne's wrath tonight?

Will Frankie cry at the banishment?

Not long until we find out!

What happens if there is a tie in the banishment vote? This is my first season and I haven't seen any ties yet, but I presume they can happen.

Edited

They re-vote I think. I can't remember if it's just people who didn't vote for the tied players, or everyone

They have to keep voting until there is a majority

It sometimes goes on and on with multiple rounds

We only see the final edit

Thanks for the new thread. Can’t wait to see what tonight brings.

No, but being a late-recruited traitor is a comparatively powerful position, though. I mean, part of the reason Charlotte is flying so successfully under the radar at the moment is that she was under so much suspicion right at the beginning and survived it, and because her most vocal critics have gone.

Though obviously not too late-recruited, like poor Aran-jumpered Freddie, who must know he’s been recruited to be discarded asap.

What would you do in Freddie’s position? You’ve been recruited very late in the day, purely because you’re doubly vulnerable because people have been suspicious of you for ages and you’ve been voted for a lot and now you’re falling foul of the ‘there must be a male traitor’ theory. You have no loyalty to the fellow-traitor who recruited you for purely cynical reasons. What can you do to to try not to get banished?

Best case scenario, I suppose is that Leanne bobs up alive and well at breakfast, Freddie doesn’t visibly blanch, Leanne says in front of everyone ‘Only Freddie and Alexander didn’t know I had the shield’, Freddie realises he’s been played and — does what?

To me freddie has the look of someone who no longer wants to be there. He is no Harry. I wouldn't be surprised if he tells Frankie that he's been recruited and that Charlotte is the traitor😆 He could well go rogue.

The thing is... it should be easier than ever for traitors to win this if they stick together. They are the only two people that know the whole truth and together they could work to oust whichever faithfuls they like. Two traitors could win this. Charlotte seems to have overlooked this and is intent on getting all of the cash.

It's interesting that Leanne hasn't really shown much fitness and strength given her job (well I assume she would have). I know she was carrying those statues alone at one point, but I would've expected someone to comment on how fit she was during the challenges.

I think Leon noticed.

He made a comment about needing to go back to the gym and I think he was quite put out that Leanne was running up the hill on her own when he was struggling 😂

Thanks for the new thread @witchycat2 😊

I'm copying over a late post on the old thread by
@newrubylane, As I think it's definitely worth discussion!

newrubylane · Today 09:31

I will join you on the new thread shortly, but wanted to comment on this.
Isn't it interesting that an all-female group of Traitors turned out to be so drama-free, given that I think stereotypically you might think of groups of women being bitchy/backstabbing? It possibly suggests that when the stakes are high, women are better team players than men?

Such an interesting point - definitely a calmer, more cohesive turret this year (up until now!).
I find it absolutely fascinating that the men insist... there must be a man! Why???

It is an interesting point, and also ironic given the inverse on the previous thread - i.e. the catty comments made by some of the posters on here (whom i assume are likely to be women) about Charlotte living up to stereotypes of being bitchy

Fine if you don't like how she's playing the game (although a) it's called the TRAITORS not the FRIENDS) and b) Minah did exactly the same as her, not once but twice!) but commenting on her appearance is just pathetic.

Also wanted to repost the link to the vid @wallaceinanderland Posted last thread about the namecards, it's hilarious https://x.com/spacecadet0697/status/1882198226490773934/mediaViewer?currentTweet=1882198226490773934&currentTweetUser=spacecadet0697&mode=profile

But I don't think you're allowed to tell anyone you're a traitor, according to the rules of the game. Contractually, I imagine he can't...?

Don't know what would happen with a grey area like if someone Freddie is close to (Francesca?) got him alone and said, 'Look, you don't need to say anything in reply, but I'm pretty sure you were recruited against your will last night' and he just looked at her, or said 'No, I wasn't' in a totally unconvincing way.

happinessischocolate · 23/01/2025 13:48

I'm hoping people are underestimating Freddie here.

He started the vote against Minah and hopefully Alexander and Frankie at least will remember this.

If Leanne still votes Alexander as she is prone to do then Charlotte will be gone 🤞

LindorDoubleChoc · 23/01/2025 13:54

I've just read back to 9pm last night. I agree with the pp that it's extremely suspicious that Leanne told some of them she had the shield. DH and I both said the same thing to each other. Why would she do that? I do not think she's bright enough to use it as some sort of tactic to deduce who is who. Again, DH works in TV and he feels he can see some of the "producing" showing through this series. I feel it too.

Yeah it's a dumb move from Leanne's point of view as none of them worked anything out from when Jake had the shield from the dolls house that half of them knew about. Plus surely she should want more people to go at this late stage so she's closer to the end.

It's a dumb move from Charlotte as Freddie will know at breakfast what she's done and he has alllll day to plot.

The only way it's a good move is for the producers as everyone's talking about it 🤷‍♀️

It would be quite amusing to see. Would anyone believe him?! I don't know what the rules are but suspect they need updating from series to series. Pretty sure the end of S 1 was thrown by another traitor suggesting the other one was Wilf.

I’d be surprised if no one mentions Minah’s death glare at Charlotte last night when she wrote her name 😂

And Charlotte glanced at Minah quite a lot as well. Charlotte’s body language and facial expressions would clearly give her away, but no one is looking her way.

Snowmanscarf · 23/01/2025 14:18

witchycat2 · 23/01/2025 13:12

I've watched back and the crazed smile Charlotte has when she suggests murdering Leanne is actually quite scary. She looks almost unhinged!

Yes, I thought the same. Manic, gleeful, with a smug confidence. She thinks she’s got it on the bag, and Freddie is her pawn.

VelvetWildflower · 23/01/2025 14:22

It's a beautiful ploy to lead Freddie to the slaughter but he didn't look 100% on board with killing Leanne last night. Even if they do agree to kill Leanne, I think at the round table they will eventually vote out Alexander even though the suspicion will still somewhat be on Freddie. It'll 'backfire' but not terribly so on Charlotte.

I don't think anyone from The Traitors has been on Strictly (yet). But I'd much rather see some of them than some of the influencer/Love Island types

Mollie Pearce from S2 is currently on Dancing on Ice, so maybe Strictly might follow suit.

In Charlottes position I would have recruited Alexander as he would maybe have been banished and he’s the biggest threat in terms of logical thinking.

But I think leaving Leanne as an obvious faithful was a mistake. Once she everyone knows she is faithful she will get rid of everyone else and leave just her and Jake the final two. They've given her too much power by outting her as faithful.

I think that's just her type of features -- she has a sharp nose and can look quite hawkish. I don't think she is particularly smug or gleeful, or only in the slightly disbelieving sense of 'I didn't see myself being in this position so close to the final!' She's definitely got a less good poker face than Minah, though.

Also Freddie, who by daylight and in his Aran jumper is the kind of curly-topped, smiley type universities put on the front of their brochures sitting in atractive groups in quads, looked positively sinister last night when he was walking down the corridor in his cloak, with only the lower part of his face visible and lit by lamplight. Even my 12 year old said 'Freddie's gone all Voldemort!'

Umbilicat · 23/01/2025 14:32

Catching up from last night, I can’t help thinking a lot of the people moaning about Charlotte have never watched the series before – the entire point is you can’t trust another traitor and however much Minah might have been talking about sharing the prize, Charlotte can’t know for sure. Nor could she know that Minah wasn’t planting seeds against her?

Charlotte did the right thing given the table was turning on Minah anyway. Freddie I think she might have outclevered herself in that there’s nothing to now stop Freddie doing the same thing to her and in her - in his position I would.

So long as Leanne doesn’t win I’m happy with any outcome by now Going to be on an aeroplane tonight kicking myself as it all unfolds. Will be avoiding all media until I manage to catch up

LindorDoubleChoc · 23/01/2025 14:33

I would like Freddie to win at this point! Just to debunk the accepted wisdom that a late recruited traitor is never going to win.

I wouldn't mind if Alexander won, but he can't win alone and I just don't like Jake, Frankie or Leanne enough to want them to get anything. I suppose Jake would be my second choice.

It pains me to say it against the sisterhood - but I just don't want Frankie, Leanne or Charlotte getting their hands on the money! I don't think Charlotte is playing a particularly good game - she's only been a traitor for 3 days. Frankie is wet and totally ineffectual and dull. Leanne is aggressive. Jake is a bit dim and in love with himself but he would be my no. 2 choice for winning, along with Alexander.

I know none of this is going to happen!!

Yes! I also think Charlotte is hamming it up a bit deliberately. Because it is a game and it must be quite fun to turn traitor like that. She obviously likes acting to run with the Welsh accent the whole time!

Piloom · 23/01/2025 14:36

whosaidtha · 23/01/2025 14:29

But I think leaving Leanne as an obvious faithful was a mistake. Once she everyone knows she is faithful she will get rid of everyone else and leave just her and Jake the final two. They've given her too much power by outting her as faithful.

But is she an 'obvious faithful?' Even if she has the physical shield (if it was given to her privately after the task), all anyone has to go on is her say so, surely? She can say 'I was shielded and the traitors tried to murder me, and only two people didn't know I had the shield, so either Freddie or Alexander or both is a traitor', but people can believe that or not, as they wish. There's no proof.

Freddie can lie and say he was told by Charlotte about Leanne having the shield, putting suspicion on C, or he can say he didn't know, but isn't a traitor, putting suspicion on Alexander, or he can say Leanne may have had the shield, but that doesn't mean she isn't a traitor etc etc. Or he could claim to have been told by someone else who knew?

It's going to come down to who Jake, Francesca and Alexander are most convinced by, and what tack Freddie decides to take. Maybe he will show an unexpected last-minute flair for strategy.

witchycat2 · 23/01/2025 14:42

If the faithfuls of win, unfortunately I think Leanne will be among them.

OP posts:
whosaidtha · 23/01/2025 14:42

I think her having the shield and not dying is pretty secure. You can't murder a traitor so they can't even try to murder her. If she was a traitor.

whaddayawannado · 23/01/2025 14:48

Drdoing · 23/01/2025 11:18

That was one of the best episodes of tv I have seen in a long time! Anyone saying this year is boring I don't agree.

I like Charlotte and her gameplay but I worry she might have undone herself here because Leanne might be able to figure out what's happened.

I'm inclined to think that Leanne will just assume she was right all about there having to be two male traitors - a combination of her dislike of Alexander and swallowing Jake's "there must be two male traitors" idea, hook, line and sinker. I don't think she's self-effacing enough to realise that she was just a pawn being used by one traitor against the other.
She'll probably think it was all about her, and that the male traitors think she's such a huge threat they had to get rid of her. And since all the women knew she had the shield, it can't have been any of them.

That depends on whether she was indeed last night's target or not, of course.
