New thread for Episode 9!

And now (no expense spared)... here are ScruffMuffin's very unofficial Traitors Bingo Cards. No expense spared! Feel free to pick a colour (white, blue, pink, green or yellow) and play along tonight. We'll be playing here! Of course, you could use the excellent chart already supplied by another poster on the previous thread instead.

HOUSE RULES
If you hear something very similar to, but not identical to, the words on your chosen card, the other people in the room get to decide if it's close enough. If you're watching on your own, mark as you see fit.

Have fun!

If only someone would tell Minah that Charlotte is mentioning her name it could bring about an epic takedown - Minah will have perfect ammunition to point at Charlotte “why is she mentioning names all of a sudden? That’s a real change in her personality. Maybe she thinks I’m a threat?”

It would have to be Leanne or Alexander after that “123” moment at the badminton nets.

Charlotte is absolutely playing the game, but Minah has put in the legwork.

I really hope someone mentions the 1,2,3 thing to her. Whilst it would be exciting to see Charlotte oust her, I'd rather have Minah get in first.

Me too! It's been driving me nuts.
I'm sure she's been on TV before but I don't know in what capacity.

My family always say that I've been saying that from the start!

I'm convinced I've seen her before

100% glad it’s not just me- can’t place her but she looks so familiar

Agree, the ‘secrets’ have been pretty pointless. I’m like “Who cares what your job is?” “Who cares whether you are English or Welsh”. That said, I can sort of understand why Leanne wouldn’t say she was in the army because there’s a possibility that people would expect more from a ex-soldier (ie not to carry their own head in a mission). I find it strange that, although this was mentioned other players, and clearly not liked, they were reluctant to challenge her over it which, as other posters, have said might indicate they are wary of her emotional dysregulation. Most of them pussy-foot around her.

The traitors will need to murder her (although her being banished would make better TV!)

I do think lying about being in the army is different to other jobs, first because a soldier won last year and they tend to be very black and white in their thinking so I think if they knew she was in the army she'd be out very quickly but also because they are trained to actually kill so should be able to pretend kill very easily.

weirdoboelady · 18/01/2025 12:28

Interesting that Joe mentioned - was it at the dinner party? - that money would be useful to him if teaching didn't work out. I reckon he is having problems getting a job. Thank fuck. Any HOD who recruited an English teacher who speaks as badly as Joe needs sacking themself!

Her voice is uncannily like Olivia Coleman too.

whaddayawannado · 18/01/2025 12:31

Leanne does have an unfortunate way of feeling very threatened at the slightest remark, and is coming across as very antagonistic and confrontational towards anyone who isn't on Team Leanne. It may well be her undoing.

Sandylittleknees · 18/01/2025 12:40

Leanne thinks it’s a popularity contest. Which is odd because her aggressive responses aren’t exactly endearing.

lots of them seem to forget that the traitors have been chosen and then have to follow the rules. So they look at people’s personalities rather than evidence.

Hanto · 18/01/2025 12:40

Francesca reminds me a little of Sarah Paulson.

And if, as some people have suggested, part of the lack of contestants warming towards Alexander is because they perceive him as ‘posh’, it may be also on class grounds that he and Francesca appear to not have that barrier. I would perceive her, based on her speech and self-presentation, as the most proximate to him on the class ladder.

I mean, rather than knowing one another from before the series.

Lentilweaver · 18/01/2025 12:42

Francesca is a mix of Natasha Richardson plus Susan Sarandon.

That’s what sits oddly with twelve years in the army to me. Whatever about her actual personality, you’d imagine that being in the armed forces would forcibly give you training in working as a team, getting along with people you don’t particularly like and functioning in stressful situations. And, if she was (as I think we were told?) an officer, you’d think she’d be better at not getting people’s backs up when getting and giving feedback.

The most obvious way to approach the statue-carrying task fairly seemed to me to say ‘Let’s get all the bodies up, let’s get all the heads up, and then draw lots for the shield once we know we’ve concluded the task’. The kind of thing Alexander proposed back on the train and was shouted down about, which was ridiculous — what he suggested was the only fair way to decide who got off!

I can only assume from the fact that plenty of others share the sense of Frankie being familiar but all have different suggestions of why/who she reminds them of that she just has one of those faces. Every suggestion so far I've thought yeah I can see that but haven't been what's niggling away at the back of my brain.

happinessischocolate · 18/01/2025 13:08

Whoarethoseguys · 18/01/2025 11:06

I always think it's odd that they players don't think I bit more cleverly at the round table and vote out people who are not very good at the tasks . Especially at the beginning m because they have no idea who the traitors are but they do know who has performed the tasks badly and not contributing to the prize pot. Also if they vote a traitor out they are likely to be replaced anyway. So until the end it's in the players interests to keep people in who are good at the tasks.

But they don't know if future task will need brains or fitness.

Alexander is probably the only to be both clever and physically fit, and many of them are threatened by any sign of intelligence 🤷‍♀️

Fordian · 18/01/2025 13:13

Hercisback1 · 17/01/2025 22:25

Why did none of them question why Lisa got murdered and who she'd suggested were traitors at the round table? They're so focused on themselves, they're forgetting to look for actual information.

She named them, THEN voted for someone else!

Britneyfan · 18/01/2025 13:26

I’m also an Alexander fan! I agree a lot of the reason he doesn’t seem well liked on the show is to do with his coming across as more upper class and “posh”. Although I think it’s a double whammy of that issue plus the fact that he rejoined the show late after bonds had already been formed. The two things together are hard for him to overcome. I think he might have been much more accepted by the group despite the class issues if he was properly in the show right from the beginning.

I’m surprised people see soldiers as team players TBH. I guess I understand why people would assume that. But you have to have a certain amount of ruthlessness in your personality I think to want to join the army. All the army people I’ve known in my personal life (which is a few) have had a selfish streak TBH. Plus this game is not a team game really as people have pointed out. You may be able to trust one or two people if you select the right people but you absolutely can’t trust the whole group. So I don’t totally blame Leanne for not being a team player, I quite liked her until she and Leon fell out which seems to have caused her to have a bit of a meltdown, causing her to be more aggressive/reactive. I do give people some grace for being in such a hothouse of emotions in there.

I really like Minah and I think she’s genuine about wanting to share the eventual prize. Given these changes they’ve made to the final, it’s possible to achieve it if you had two traitors who were genuinely loyal to each other. She has come off as probably the most collaborative traitor we’ve seen to date throughout this show, and did a great job keeping the heat off Linda for ages. I do think she is generally loyal to her fellow traitors and genuinely has faith in a “sisterhood”. I hate that Charlotte has just assumed she is a backstabber because I think Charlotte could have been happily working collaboratively with her otherwise and the two of them together would be doing a fantastic job. Imagine if it had been Minah and Charlotte together from the beginning for example. I wonder if Minah explained to her that she only voted for Linda with great reluctance at a late stage after successfully keeping the heat off her for ages, and wot Linda’s full blessing when the heat on her was clearly becoming too much to overcome.

Hanto · 17/01/2025 23:21

Yes — why don’t more of them like Alexander?

I know coming in late means he’s late to the game and with some automatic suspicion hanging over him, but people are quite open about being very fond of other people of whom they have suspicions.

Alexander seems genuinely nice. He throws himself into tasks, however silly, like singing backwards nursery rhymes and carrying giant penises up hillsides, he falls into shrubs playing badminton, he’s polite and fair-minded at round tables, so why don’t more people warm to him?

(I actually thought he did a very diplomatic thing at tonight’s round table, in admitting, sincerely or not, to being ‘stuck’. It changed the tone slightly to one where other people also felt able to say ‘I’m baffled’, too. It took the heat out of it a bit.)

I think it's reverse snobbery.

Because they're thick 😬

Britneyfan · 18/01/2025 13:28

Yes, reverse snobbery, I totally agree. Poor Alexander. I absolutely loved it when he fell into the shrub 🤣🤣 He kind of reminds me of the sort of romantic leads Hugh Grant always used to play back in the day.

ScruffMuffin · 18/01/2025 13:31

Is there anyone apart from me that just doesn't like the shields, full stop? They add another layer of strategy and confusion, but early in the game, they're a distraction from teamwork, bonding and building the prize pot. I don't remember them being introduced so early on in series 1. Winning teams also took turns to enter a room at random to see who could find them.

I'm obsessed with the show, but the constant voting off of intelligent, logical people makes me wonder if a couple more series of vapid wannabe-influencer types winning will ensure the show disappears up its own bottom. Generally, I have found this year's tasks less interesting and the contestants less likeable than in past series. I want Minah or Alexander to win, but they probably won't.

Because she was voting for Alex to stay - I can't remember who she voted for but she was adding to their total in order to save Alex

what made me laugh was Lisa getting everyone into the room to announce she was a priest and everyone just not caring. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I noticed that but I don’t know the book and didn’t get the reference.

happinessischocolate · 18/01/2025 13:50

The flaw in getting 3 people off the train at the start was they lost 2 really good players.

If Fozia and Alexander had been there from the start then it would have been a completely different game. The thick click wouldn't have had so much control to vote off anyone with any sign of intelligence.

I don't like Fozia much but with her and Alexander there Kaz wouldn't have been isolated so badly and then banished

APushbikeNamedReluctance · 18/01/2025 13:52

She named them, THEN voted for someone else!

Lisa named Charlotte, Minah and Leon. The voted for Leon. She voted for- aomeone who she'd named not someone else.

They really should put a bit of thought to why Lisa was murdered. Though oddly, from what we saw, it wasn't the reason they murdered Lisa.

I'm getting more sure Linda had more involvement than we were shown in the turret. Minah's decision making has gone wonky since Linda left.
