Just seen your post happiness I thought Joe was at least late 30s. He could easily pass for 40.
Good lord the bar must be set very low for teachers these days, no offence.

He’s 37.

Sure, but why cast the dullards in the first place?

To be fair, they may have come across well in interviews. However, huw it’s panned out, they’re less interesting.

Anna - whether you liked her or not, added a spark.
Charlotte - with the whole Welsh accent thing, who has come alive as a traitor, but looked lost as a faithful
Lisa - who wouldn’t lie in a game about lying, because she’s a vicar, although is now quietly observing people and commenting
Alexander - ex diplomat - would he use these skilks
Leanne - not a nail technician , but Barbie Army
etc.

Actually, , writing the above reminds me of The Circle, whereby everyone catfished each other.

I’m wondering if Joe is looking for a way out of teaching.
How boring must it be to be taught by him?
An English teacher too. English teachers should be full of drama and passion. They should be interesting and invoke passion. He actually said he was useless at maths too. Don’t they have to cover other subjects? He obviously cannot cover any other lessons.
I would fall to sleep if I had to listen his monotone, dull voice droning on.

Why would an English teacher be expected to cover Maths lessons? I think some people on this thread are quite naive about the quality of teaching staff.

Yes, I like Alex too. He didn’t get enough screen time imo. Joe led the charge to get him banished. He’s such a tool with zero self awareness

Agree on Alex! He seemed lovely on Uncloaked. They didn’t give him much airtime on the show.

Could Joe perhaps be a failed actor? @happinessischocolate does your DD’s friend have any gossip?

No gossip, it's an old school friend who posted a picture of herself and Joe on Instagram

Sure, but why cast the dullards in the first place?

An insight into the casting thought processes would be fascinating, but I suppose the truth is that they're not casting for intelligence, they're casting for 'good TV'.

It's like how Bake Off isn't cast to find the actual twelve best amateur bakers in the UK, it's cast to include a variety of age groups, ethnicities, men and women, but the primary casting focus is stuff like 'Can this person talk to the judges or presenters while baking on camera, and be funny or self-deprecating or interesting?' 'Are they confident enough baking on camera?' 'Are they mentally robust enough?' 'Are they good TV?'

No one would cast me on The Traitors even if I applied, because, left to myself, I'd be continually trying to get away from the cameras and go for a walk in the woods or the lower garden, and I would go mad penned up in a castle all day without a book. I would be spectacularly poor TV.

In my opinion I think Leon is traumatised by the death match , his reaction when he wins over Fozia shows how seriously he took it.
I think he’s now realised no one is his friend (although he should’ve realised this earlier) and can’t hide his emotions (the death match showed he doesn’t really have a poker face) I think he wears his heart on his sleeve & is genuinely aggrieved that someone (a so called friend) put him through that.

I agree. He seemed really affected by it. He seems to be taking the whole thing pretty seriously, and talks about his family a lot and wanting to win it for them.

bookmarket · 17/01/2025 12:59

If only Alexander and Fozia had not got off the train. The season might have been better if they'd been in from the start and had more of an 'in'.

Yes, the 'originals' always seem suspicious of the people who arrive late, and there seems to be a sense of them thinking the late arrivals don't deserve to win because they haven't been there the whole way through.

If everyone refused to get off the train what would the production team have done? Maybe come up with another way to force 3 people out.

Agreed. They were both at such a disadvantage, and both good / interesting players.

I think Leon has changed towards Leanne in particular because he's realised that she's really just not very nice.

Yes this. I don't think he wants to be associated and lumped in with her

Not sad to see Anna go she annoyed me how she thought it was all about her and she was playing a clever one but she really wasn't that key.

She thought she was the main character

I hope they tried to murder Jake, then Jake tells everyone/shows his shield. After Harry's shield trick last year they are suspicious of him so they banish him at the roundtable tonight

That would be brilliant

Turkeyhen · 17/01/2025 13:52

On Uncloaked last night Anna was crowing about knowing Minah was a traitor all along/for ages, but I don't remember her picking Minah out?

HelloThere2025 · 17/01/2025 13:52

If they tried to murder Jake but can't as he has a shield, do they know before breakfast?

Because if not, their shocked faces when they see him might out them a bit - especially to Eagle-Eyed Jake

She only did on her last day IIRC, as she thought Minah placed her in the card game by asking her to carry a drink

I don't think they would know until they all walk in to breakfast

But they know there's a risk that he might have the shield so they wouldnt be taken by surprise if anything it would be the thing they are worrying about

She named about 10 people didnt she 😂 tbf Minah was the first name but she's still named 50% of them so wasnt that sure of herself 😂

witchycat2 · 17/01/2025 14:04

Anna said on Uncloaked that she was sure Alex was a traitor, but I can't remember her saying that in the main show. Maybe it wasn't shown

Sure, but why cast the dullards in the first place?

The show wants to appeal to the average BBC1 viewer and make them feel good about themselves as they work things out that the cast have overlooked etc. So they are casting several people who are a bit less bright than the average viewer. Otherwise it becomes a bit too highbrow for most people.

(I consider myself pretty bright and love Only Connect but I never watch University Challenge which is on immediately after Only Connect as it's more serious and sometimes I don't even understand the question)

If the show was full of intellectual strategists with complex theories and an ability to easily find the traitors it would be a disaster for the ratings. Perhaps part of the deal when it moved from BBC2 to BBC1 was to make it more appealing to the masses by casting people you either love and want to win / evade detection or hate and keep watching to see them get their comeuppance.

Good point

Didn't it go straight from the round table where she was kicking off to him then playing the death match thing ? Was that the same night?

Would explain why he's off with her

witchycat2 · 17/01/2025 14:07

Was it originally on BBC2?

happinessischocolate · 17/01/2025 14:09

I think this season has been so bitchy and cliquish that it would put any decent people off applying for the next one.

Think it may go the same route as BB which would be a shame
