Franky is another over-dramatiser. Wasn't it her telling the driver to go faster because there was a person in a coffin? I wonder if she really believed the card players had been left in coffins overnight.

There were no shields available in that task though it was all about the money. No one can afford to sabotage a task at this stage. The prize pot is really low.

Yes, I'm surprised at how low the prize pot is. Is it because they haven't won much in missions, or because the prize money on offer is low?

mewkins · 17/01/2025 10:17

TheBluntTurtle · 17/01/2025 09:30

I agree with your logic - a traitor can kill anyone - if someone in the castle is killed it doesnt necessarily mean the traitors were in the castle - the traitor could have been in the woods, known who had the shield but wanted to kill someone in the castle anyway. The only benefit a traitor had being in the woods was that they would know Jake has the shield so know not to kill him.

Now if Jake survives banishment tomorrow and is then killed at the next murder (ie when he doesn’t have the shield) that would implicate someone in the woods as a traitor, as they may have had him as a target the night before but couldn’t kill him as they knew he had the shield.

I've given this too much thought- i am too invested! Sadly I think the only person who is going to be thinking through all the logically options is alexander - and the group won’t listen and say he’s a traitor.

Even that wouldn't point the finger at anyone in the woods....unless one of the other wood people got murdered tonight and Jake tomorrow night. Realistically Frankie and Alexander were the ones putting the effort into that task so had no time to find a shield.

But if they had run out of time to rescue them wouldn't the person in the coffin been eliminated? So a bonus murder?

JessyCarr · 17/01/2025 10:09

We don’t know that. It’s possible the intended victim will be told there was an attempt to murder them but they were saved by the shield.

Even if this is the case (and I believe the only precedent is the US Traitors, so I don’t know if there are any subtle rule differences between territories), apparently the attempted murder victim isn’t allowed to keep the murder letter, so all Jake could do is show up at breakfast claiming the traitors had tried to murder him. People are then free to believe him and think it means the traitors were all in the castle task group, or to think it’s a bluff on the part of Jake. Or of course the traitors trying to redirect suspicion.

I thought it was because it was a time bound task

happinessischocolate · 17/01/2025 10:23

If both the traitors were in the woods and knew Jake had the shield they would not murder some else from the woods as it would be obvious that they knew.

The traitors should have murdered Leanne

It did make me wonder whether there was a higher chance you would get banishment votes if your name was more easily spelled… (In future seasons, please cast people called Przemysław, Chiwetel, and Lasairfhíona and ensure they don’t go by nicknames or short forms .)

Or can the production team just include first names on the portraits in the breakfast room to avoid the ‘Meina’ stuff? And Keith writing ‘Nather’?

Also, have the portraits got weirdly caricature-ish, or were they always that fugly? Anna is actually very nice-looking but her photo portrait makes her look weirdly like Gru from the Minions films?

They need those little stand up name card things in front of them at the round table but then I guess they'd all be looking up to check the spellings😆

Re. The portraits, they have definitely applied some weird filters so that they all look a bit ghoulish. They've made all of their eyes bigger.

LindorDoubleChoc · 17/01/2025 10:26

Last night's show was a bit more tense and I can't get my head round the pros/cons/implications of murdering someone from the woods team or someone from the castle team - I just can't think that far ahead (so would be a hopeless player).

But it did provide my quote of the whole series so far ...

FREDDIE: sorry Leon, but I was suspicious of you when you got out of the coffin. It just looked so staged.

Grin Grin Grin

Snowmanscarf · 17/01/2025 10:27

@hanto. I’ve noticed that about the paintings as well. They’ve always had a distinctive look, but this year some are quite weird, and don’t really resemble the person. Others are more realistic.

Edited

I think the total on offer is still £120 k. The two previous seasons, the total won was £101k (split three ways) and £95 k (won solely by the oleaginous-haired Harry) — are this year’s lot way down on where they ‘should’ be if they’d won the optimal amount in each task?

They lost a shed load on the boat task because people wouldn't get off the boat in exchange for money.

Edit to say - I seem to recall the last task is usually an opportunity to really up the bank balance.

Phthia · 17/01/2025 10:10

But if they try to murder Jake then it will be an absolute certainty that all the traitors were in the castle.

Not necessarily. It could be that there was no murder because they recruited.

Are the traitors allowed to recruit at any point? I have only seen recruitment (attempts) on the night when a traitor has been banished, so I assumed that's the only time when it's allowed. I don't think I saw Claudia offer Minah and Linda the chance to recruit again after their attempted recruitment of Anna failed. But it's my first series watching and I don't know all the rules in detail yet.

Yes, the prize fund seems very low this year.

Does anyone know how many episodes left?

I think four episodes left, finale next Friday

Isn’t it a total of 12, and last night was 7?

ChoccyJules · 17/01/2025 10:34

I think it’s because early on they were obsessed with shields/sabotage and didn’t work hard enough on the prize pot.

Last night must have been 8. Three a week.

ChoccyJules · 17/01/2025 10:39

Also I have remembered where I heard all this ‘yourself’ing before (apart from little Harry last year) - Big Brother series one when Craig called out Nasty Nick!

It's on Wednesday/Thursday/Friday, so it's the WTF show in more than one way.

They haven't been failing to pick up too many prizes, though.

When the mission was to get the survivors of the death match out of the coffins, Claudia casually announced that the prize was £6500. I'm not sure where that amount came from, other than being £500 for every remaining player.

Given what the show must cost to produce (I'm guessing Claudia gets more than the winner) and how much it will make in overseas sales for the BBC, I'm surprised they don't pay more. But maybe they don't have to. I assume that the players are modestly compensated for their time, and they have the chance to become slebs in their own right.

JessyCarr · 17/01/2025 10:46

@samarrange They get £100 per day while they remain in the game - as compensation for loss of earnings. Seems very low to me, but there you go!

Whoops, I deleted a day…

To change the subject — what is actually going on with Leon? Are viewers believing the whole ‘lying in my coffin/the Deathmatch changed my whole take on the game and now I trust no one’ thing, or are we assuming something happened that didn’t make the edit that’s made him seem so altered in manner? Or bad news from home or something? (I assume family stuff can be communicated via the production team, that night be serious enough to need communicating but not bad enough to drop out for…?)

Because, though I’m loath to agree with ghastly Leanne (who thinks it’s all about her), Leon does seem gloomier and far more angst-ridden than the chilled, rather dozy Leon from the first few episodes.

I think he thought he was popular and 'safe' but realised that someone had put him into the game but as he has no idea who he can't trust anyone.

If anyone has learnt anything from previous series it should be to never trust anyone anyway.
Your known them for a few days 'bestie' could be a traitor, because it's a game. They aren't actually murdering anyone so how 'nice' they seem is just part of that game.

Possibly the wrong show if he's upset someone turned on him!!
