Hi all

I’m looking for recommendations of programmes to watch with my 14 year old daughter, extra points for strong female characters and positive messages for teens.

Would love to hear what you’ve enjoyed recently with your teens/young adults?

Thanks ☺️

Buffy! Series not film.

Binfire · 09/01/2025 08:43

Oh yes we are loving traitors and Schitts Creek is one of the best things we’ve watched together.
We haven’t tried Buffy or New Girl so will look into those, thanks.

Lady Jane series, which is a mix of costume, adventure and kick-ass women!

Enko · 09/01/2025 08:45

Pride and prejudice the BBC adaptation with Jennifer Erhle and Colin Firth.

"The split" may be good to discuss different relationships.

Last Tango in Halifax. Older obviously but good in many ways. Imo.

BrickFinch · 09/01/2025 08:46

Maybe Gilmore Girls although I tried to watch it again as an adult and cringed hard! Loved it as a teen though!

Definitely Buffy.

Parks and Rec. Push through the first few episodes- it really gets into gear from season 2 onwards. But season 1 useful for the scene setting.

Is Lucifer a bit too old? It had a strong female detective and a demon who is a bounty hunter. The pathologist is also female.

Original charmed as well? Not sure how well it held up though but I think it’s on prime.

Definitely Buffy (series) as mentioned up post.

Lucifer I give a vote to as well.

Grey's Anatomy

Criminal Minds

Firefly Lane

If you enjoy Buffy, the spin-off series Angel is fab as well.

Firefly (I recommend everyone watches this short, but brilliant series)

DD and I have just started Jane the Virgin which I have seen but she hasn't. She also enjoyed Ugly Betty, Superstore, Brooklyn 99, Modern Family, Ghosts, Bob's Burgers and Buffy is our absolute favourite.

popandchoc · 09/01/2025 13:17

Gilmore girls, gossip girl, stranger things

Oneofusisdead · 09/01/2025 13:17

Seconding The Good Place, it's excellent.

My DD and I loved Friday Night Dinner - it is a bit male centric but they are not heroic and it's very very funny.
