I thought this series had ended. I used to watch it as I had a soft spot for Mrs Maguire (spelling?) and Cathy Keating.

Just thought I would mention, as I couldn't see a thread.

But maybe everybody has given up as it becomes more and more implausible. IMO!!

This aired in America some months back and I actually thought the new vicar revitalized the (IMO) tired format a bit.

But I never warmed to the character of Will. He always seemed like a watered down version of Sydney.

Well that makes me quite cross.

Prioritising US viewers over UK viewers.

It aired on PBS/Masterpiece network. It's one of the few shows that does this though. All Creatures Great and Small doesn't air here until next week. And God knows when I'll be able to watch the new Strike series in the US.

Interesting, thanks.

Just binged S9 with the new vicar Alfie, who IMO is on a par with Sidney!

Clawdy · 09/01/2025 08:51

Enjoyed last night's, new vicar on the way!

DisforDarkChocolate · 09/01/2025 08:52

Oh that's good. I like the programme but didn't like the last vicar. I may tune in.

Out of curiosity I watched this first episode of the new series.

The original series had quite "serious" issues and plot lines. This seems a bit fluffy.

And the whole premise of the storyline, police man works with cleric, just doesn't add up if it doesn't matter which cleric. Is it now part of the job description for the diocese or something?

But now of course having watched this episode, want to see how the 3rd or is it 4th Vicar measures up. And whether he is suprised to find a Detective turning up every now and again, asking him to come along as a side kick!

So Will has gone ( very suddenly! ) Quite sad at the end. The baby storyline was a bit silly and improbable though.

RaraRachael · 16/01/2025 13:16

I've always enjoyed watching it but agree the idea of a vicar helping with police work is a bit odd although Father Brown did it as well.
Will see how the new vicar turns out.

IwantToRetire · 16/01/2025 18:32

I am sure many, well some, men in the 50s (or is it now 60s) had strong friendships with other men.

But last night's hour long bromance coming to an end was just a iny bit unlikely.

Quite glad to see the back of Will. Always found him a miserable so and so!

suburburban · 17/01/2025 15:48

Where was their younger son when they left.

I thought Bonnie had given birth in the last series

Her oldest son was in car

Weepixie · 17/01/2025 15:49

I’ve binge watched all of it. It was very good.

I wondered that too.

suburburban · 17/01/2025 18:16

Yes, I didn't see any evidence of him throughout the episode

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 23/01/2025 15:06

Really liking the new vicar. Another handsome one.

IwantToRetire · 23/01/2025 17:48

I think they have given up making an attempt to explain why a detective would be working with a vicar.

Now all they do is snigger about Geordie having a "thing for vicars".

Glad to see they have found a plot device to get Mrs Maguire back into the vicarage.

Presumably the new man will have to accept her, just as he had to accept the dog.

A bit of escapist tv is fine as and when needed, but this is now just silly.

The murder storyline was a bit silly, but I do like the new vicar.

suburburban · 24/01/2025 12:39

When will Geordie get a new suit

Yes I like the new vicar but wouldn't he have been introduced and mentioned first not just rocking up

Yes, I think the whole congregation would have known the new vicar's name, and facts about him, probably in a newsletter, or general church gossip. Surely there would be a curate with all the news? Did nobody take over from Leonard, can't remember.

RaraRachael · 25/01/2025 22:56

I really liked the new vicar. He has a bit more personality than Will although I found the way he arrived a bit silly.

NasiDagang · 29/01/2025 11:13

I like the new vicar as well but Daily Mail readers were being racist towards him.
