I thought this series had ended. I used to watch it as I had a soft spot for Mrs Maguire (spelling?) and Cathy Keating.

Just thought I would mention, as I couldn't see a thread.

But maybe everybody has given up as it becomes more and more implausible. IMO!!

I like him. Easy on the eye. What’s not to like?

Ridiculous

They can hardly be racist towards a fictional character.

I'm still traumatised from an early episode featuring Georgie ravishing his mistress from an athletic angle. I mean you just don't expect it.

Not sure "Christ on a bike! " was a phrase used at that time. But I could be wrong.

Too much of Geordie’s home life for me.

suburburban · 31/01/2025 09:36

I don't think they even used "ok"

I got to,d off for using it at school in the 70sSmile

I might quibble about "Christ on a bike", but generally the period detail is very good on Grantchester, it's one of the main things I like about the show. And the attitudes; the homophobia, petty snobbery, are all so familiar from my own childhood.

Well it was like the writers' room had been taken over by FWR posters in tonight's ep! 😀But, tbf, Grantchester has always been pretty good at showing the attitudes of the time, although tonight's ep almost seemed so... modern? I'm a bit surprised it hasn't got more MN fans.

I was a bit surprised Geordie's daughter said how much she loved her job when she was working in such a toxic atmosphere.

I think in the early episodes that was much more about social changes, including the role of women. And some of the issues covered were quite hard hitting.

But when the 2nd vicar came in it all went a bit fluffy.

I didn't see the interview but did see it was Kacey Ainsworth having had input into the script. It shouldn't have come to her having to push for that, as early on she did have quite a strong part.

But yes it was full on women hold up half the sky, if not all of it!

(I thought there were some quite good lines ... )
