What year did Sharon and jack almost marry? I took a few years break from the show ages ago, and I must've missed it, i was as shocked as nicola

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 21/01/2025 18:39

We knew this already but the BBC have announced a mental health storyline for phil

Southeastdweller · 21/01/2025 18:59

According to the internet , 2013

Its great to hear the Samaritans feel the Phil storyline is being done well.

I really don't know where they are going with the Reiss storyline now. I doubt he would ever confess, more likely to throw himself in the canal. Let's hope he unpadlocks B first.

The market storyline is such a damp squib, even the writers can barely be bothered to write a coherent sentence about it! We did not get a clear look at those 'redevelopment plans' conveniently enough! And Martin will no doubt kick off because he thinks he would have done a better job than Ruby (which he wouldn't).

I don't think Ian has a massive evil plan for Cindy - he doesn't need one. She is already friendless and her daughters aren't speaking to her. He might like to rub her nose in that a bit though. George going round to see her felt very forced.

Viewer23 · 22/01/2025 09:08

I think Ian is just enjoying tormenting Cindy as he is very vindictive and egotistical and it gives him a sense of power.

I also find Big Mo’s speculation really distasteful. I’ve gone off her since I watched the Mo and Pat special and learnt about how her lifelong deception over cheating on her husband, Pat’s brother, and getting in the way of Pat and her brother’s reconciliation even when he was dying! I can’t see her character as light hearted anymore.

the80sweregreat · 22/01/2025 09:33

Elaine helped George to get over to see his ex when a few weeks ago she threw him out for calling Cindy 'his wife '!
I assume they are back together now ?
Anyway, Ian will do something I'm sure.
I had forgotten about Mo and her brother and Pat etc.
she has always been abrasive

Shellingbynight · 22/01/2025 09:59

Mo really isn't very nice, always out for herself.

Elaine said George could move back in and they would 'take it slowly' so I think he's sleeping in Linda's room. These sudden reversals, like Elaine's and Ian's, are a bit hard to accept,

the80sweregreat · 22/01/2025 10:06

Ian is just being vindictive.
Kathy will give her a harder time of it than he will ! lol

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 22/01/2025 10:06

The show is a mess right now, I can't think of a single well done storyline, just chaos and 'references' to the past 🥺

Im glad re the samaritans response to phil's mh storyline at least - I think i saw that corrie were doing a physical health storyline for Carla and it wasn't well received by the relevant charity

the80sweregreat · 22/01/2025 10:10

It has been a bit all over the place lately.
Allowing the Sonia actress time off didn't help and Bianca has been in and out of it last year , so hard to have much continuity with a few of the storylines. Plus they are obsessed with recreating old stories with a twist rather than new ones! The birdsong recording was clunky even if it was nice seeing David Wicks again that time.

Shellingbynight · 22/01/2025 10:20

It was lovely to see David, he is so charismatic, but his visit was far too short. Instead we are stuck with Nigel's dementia, which was a bizarre storylining choice. But I am still enjoying it overall, because I like so many of the characters (unlike Corrie where they have managed to ruin every character in sight).

the80sweregreat · 22/01/2025 10:22

I did try to get back into Corrie , but it's been decades now and apart from a few faces, I didn't recognize many of them or what was going on.
People tend to prefer it to EE I've noticed, but maybe because it has more humour in it ?

I'd watched Coronation Street since the 60's (because my mum watched it) but gave up on it a couple of years ago. It became, in my opinion, very preachy, and the storylines were so boring. All the comedy, that years ago had made it a good laugh, had gone. I've watched Eastenders since the first episode (I was a grown up by then) and it's my favourite programme.

the80sweregreat · 22/01/2025 10:31

I do like EE. I don't watch any other soaps
I do hate the sniffing I get from others around it though ! It's just a bit of escapism and mostly well acted.
About the only thing on tv I do like to watch religiously.

Southeastdweller · 22/01/2025 10:47

I gave up on Corrie in 2017 when they introduced a sixth episode per week. It was too much trying to keep up with it, and in terms of quality it was awful, so not worth the time. EE is far from perfect but I wouldn’t watch it was awful and four episodes a week is fine. You need amazing writers to sustain good quality drama of five or six episodes which Corrie doesn’t have, at least not when I was watching.

Well you're all my favourites because I can chat EE with you!

The storylines at the minute are a bit all over the place but I'll stick with it.

A few funny moments today -
B to Reiss -
"Well the flamin' hour is here Reiss, so hurry up and cometh!"
Reiss to B "Are you this thick on purpose?"

Bittersweet scene between Phil and Nige, planning a lad's night in with fish and chips and watching a western 🥹
Phil's birthday card made me lol.

The sleazy Councillor 🤢

BUT has JackandJack finally put two and two together?! He was narrowing his eyes at Reiss. Martin still looking clueless though!
Talking of eyes - Debbie's mum is terrifying!

the80sweregreat · 22/01/2025 10:53

Debbie's mum is formidable for sure
Bianca made me lol when she called herself a poster girl for Broken Britain !
Phil had already eaten cottage pie and then fish and chips .. ! He has a big appetite

the80sweregreat · 22/01/2025 10:56

Also made me roll my eyes at George going off in broad daylight with a black sack that was shovel shaped .. lol

Anyonecanfallinlove · 22/01/2025 11:05

The shovel in the bag made me laugh, I wondered if he was taking it to the same bin that his shirt went to. Anyway I'm guessing it's now stuck in his car because Elaine called him back.
It's all quite comical, in an am-dram way.
Yesterday we had a really long scene of George walking to the Beale's house. I don't understand why, was it a filler scene?

the80sweregreat · 22/01/2025 11:10

He did say he'd dump the shovel in the canal at first , I thought he was going there.

NowNumber5 · 22/01/2025 11:10

Phil had already eaten cottage pie and then fish and chips
...with extra gravy 80s! 😂

the80sweregreat · 22/01/2025 11:12

What will the barrister do with the phone he gave her now and Bianca's ' confession ' ?
Hopefully she'll take it somewhere ( police?) and they might be able to do something?
Although the whole thing is a mess

the80sweregreat · 22/01/2025 11:13

Oh yes, the extra gravy !! lol
With Nigel in charge, it's a wonder anyone gets anything tbf.
I wish he'd tell Phil and Kathy about his dementia
