On a lighter note, I do hope the Queen Vic bust is saved and they re paint it a different colour to dusty pink eventually

I agree, it makes absolutely no sense, you would think they could think of a better threat to the market than 'parking'.

If this was a real East End square , situated right next to a Tube Station which is only a few stops into town, every inch of street would be parked on.
The Residents Parking would be a nightmare ( I see there are meters and parking bays ) but people will drive in and park if their permit covers them .
There aren't enough cars there to merit more parking .

What they could've done which would be an accurate storyline and might mean losing a bit of the market is build a Mosque .
This would need some parking and they could maybe combine it with some EV Charging points .

O the subject of affording houses - the Slaters house has a garage (green doors) As the Panesaaars own it I am very surprised that Vinnie (or Nish) hadn't got PP for a double storey extension with parking as a seperate house to the Slaters (who have the loft extension)
Nish was trying to turn the cafe into flats (not sure if he got PP or if he decided against it ) He;d need a Change of Purpose going from Retail to Residential . But an extension would be easier .

Shellingbynight · 18/01/2025 13:52

There was a big todo about building a mosque a few years ago wasn't there? Bobby and Dana in favour, Aaron obviously not.

Nish changed his mind about the cafe didn't he? ISTR he 'gave' it to Kathy to annoy Suki.

The Turpin Road site is tiny. If the council wanted to do anything surely they would be looking at demolishing and redeveloping, not providing a few paltry parking spaces.

Oh yes , in the old Argee Bargee site .

They have a massive church in EE where they all troop along for Weddings Funerals and Christenings . Only Dot seemed to be a regular .

Now Yolande is the only one who is a regular ChurchGoer in the Square .

There will be other PoW (Places of Worship) but they would have to travel to these

Frostine · 18/01/2025 15:43

I don't know how long in advance filming is , but apparently the cast have just had a night out together for Reiss ( can't remember the actor's name ) leaving party .

dysonwithdeath · 18/01/2025 17:48

Reiss actor is brilliant

the80sweregreat · 18/01/2025 19:31

Reiss is a good actor ! Agreed

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/01/2025 23:55

If Reiss is leaving then the actor (Jonny Freeman) will be thinking Yes , I can cut my hair and lose the Reiss Beard , wear my contact lenses and never have to wear a bloody tank top ever again

(I bet Phil misses that leather jacket when he leaves the set !

Bluesandwhites · 19/01/2025 00:52

Phil walks funny, do you think it's an old injury? It's a kind of hobble

Don't think much of Jonny's acting, who plays Reiss, the heavy breathing is irritating, and if the character was real you would want to avoid him like the plague.

the80sweregreat · 19/01/2025 08:14

Reiss's heavy breathing is all part of his act isn't it? I'm so anxious snd misunderstood .. poor me
No, your a murdering two faced piece of scum

Southeastdweller · 19/01/2025 08:38

I’m glad he’s leaving (last episode would be the end of February or beginning of March). His acting has always been a bit dodgy. It’s ridiculous nobody has voiced suspicions about Reiss.

Shellingbynight · 19/01/2025 08:49

I think the actor is good, although I agree it is ridiculous that no one - including Sonia - suspects him. Except B of course....
The build up to him turning out to be a wrong 'un was a good slow burn, but it all went downhill after Sonia was arrested.

the80sweregreat · 19/01/2025 08:51

I can vaguely recall someone telling Sonia to be careful of Reiss when he very first appeared and suggested he was after the house
Might have been Martin? ..
It was only a brief interlude though!

the80sweregreat · 19/01/2025 08:56

I suppose that Natalie Cassidy going off to do other projects hasn't helped this story line along at all ! It has been a bit stop / start from the time he suffocated Debbie

storminabuttercup · 19/01/2025 10:46

It'll be sad to see Stacey lose her business but I don't know how she makes any money looking at the price list, her stall is cheaper than my local butty shop by a long way and I'm up in cheap Yorkshire

The pub is the same the specials board often has meals for 7 quid its not a spoons

I pay weird levels of attention to things

Eastie77Returns · 19/01/2025 10:49

Reiss is a good actor. He’s played the role consistently well, someone who is quite evil but has convinced himself that he’s a good person and a victim. I thought he was suspect from the start as he claimed to be Dot’s great nephew but no-one had ever heard of or seen him before. Very odd that he just turned up for her funeral. Presumably either his mum or dad is Dot’s niece or nephew but I’m not sure his parentage was ever verified. Sonia just took him at face value and moved him into the house.

But she is extremely naive which is why Rocky so easily convinced her he was her dad. And why she has sat in prison for months without it once occurring to her that Reiss is the killer🙄

Southeastdweller · 19/01/2025 11:05

I don't think Sonia is naive at all, she stole money from Dot and was fine with using Debbie's money to pay for her IVF treatment. She also knew Reiss tried to con Phil and Sharon. I feel she's desperate for attention and clings to any scraps she's offered. I can kind of believe she thought Rocky was her real dad she hasn't seen for years since she never talks to Carol (or we don't see that she does) and he knew about the letter she'd recently sent to Terry (her real dad).

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 19/01/2025 11:33

Sonia is definitely flawed! I feel a bit sorry for her though.

Southeastdweller · 19/01/2025 11:36

I don’t think she’s got any nice qualities at all.

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 19/01/2025 11:38

Was watching some old episodes before Christmas when Martin was with Sonia ( old head Martin) and he was a horrible person too , silly and sulky and just nasty.

Shellingbynight · 19/01/2025 11:47

@Eastie77Returns I agree Sonia is naive/foolish. She was taken in by Rocky and didn't bother to check out who he was. And she has sat in jail for months and it hasn't even crossed her mind that if she didn't kill Debbie then Reiss did! She even knows he had a very compelling motive - money.

I said last summer that Reiss was a reprise of Corrie's Richard Hillman, they were both never-heard-of relatives who turned up at a well-loved character's funeral, got cosy with a resident, got into money troubles, and went on a killing/kidnapping spree. Not that Reiss is exactly hitting the heights of the Hillman storyline, sadly.

the80sweregreat · 19/01/2025 11:50

It's still sad that Sonia is being framed for this though despite her rather callous attitude to using Debbie's money for the IVF and stealing from the weight watchers class and all sorts!
She still is an innocent person of this crime

Southeastdweller · 19/01/2025 12:02

She's innocent but it just doesn't fit with her character that she wouldn't suspect Reiss. As you say @the80sweregreat Natalie Cassidy's breaks hasn't helped the credibility of the story (and I would argue Sonia's character) and maybe Patsy Palmer's family commitments in Los Angeles have been another obstacle.

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 19/01/2025 12:06

No, after the Rocky / Dotty debacle you'd be a bit more suspicious of people I suppose , but she genuinely loves Reiss as a kindred spirit!

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 19/01/2025 12:23

I agree that sonia wants attention

Sonia is smart and cool and attractive! She pulled Martin and Jamie and naomi. She shouldn't be being portrayed as naive at all

No idea why they're trying to turn her into dot and keep on bringing up the trumpet 🙄

This whole storyline should be explained away with sonia realising who she is and turning on reiss - and her telling the square that she just wanted a baby and lost her mind for a bit 😫
