Welcome to the EastEnders spoilers thread, where we post and talk about any EE spoilers we've read about, including those in early release episodes on iPlayer.

Link below to watch episodes on BBC iPlayer - these are usually dropped at 6am on broadcast days - and you can read brief synopses of upcoming episodes:

The sets move around / expand and all sorts.
It costs millions to re vamp, but I agree it feels and looks cheaper.
Maybe the Vic burning down might give that a new lease of life ! It could do with a face lift too

I'll never stop either 🤭, been watching since birth (91) - I've carried on the tradition with dd who used to dance to the theme tune when she was a baby (she's indifferent now but loves the chase)

One thing thats getting to me is the new set. When watching now, the set has a different feel can't explain it, and feels cheaper and woodeny

Whereas when I'd watch before, even though it's a tv show, it definitely felt real

🙈

I remember when it first started a lot of the set looked very grimy, run down and realistic. Mary and Ethel's flats were horrible. Much more realistic than the swanky places we see some living in now. Some of these people must be on low wages, I can't understand how they can afford the rent.

One of me ' eads!
I miss Dot , old school acting with a cigarette on
' I'll have a small sherry if you don't mind ' ..
Nick C was also a legend
' allo ma ' .. a proper baddie.
I agree they need some new talented writers and new storylines, but I refuse to give up on it ( plus you lot make it worth while too!)

I used to love it when Nick would turn up again and his first line was always 'allo Ma'.

the80sweregreat · 17/01/2025 18:42

The rents in London are very high , but they all seem to be able to pay it.
Alfie was once renting one of Jack's flats and he only had the betting shop job and now in the shop , both of which can't pay that well even though he is now a manager there.
Phil owns his place as does Ian.
The Knights all must live rent free above the pub
Stacey's place is owned by Suki and must be market rate rent for that , but they seem to pay it ok. Maybe be more of a struggle if she loses her pitch ? ;(
Reiss is a ' cock lodger ' at Sonia's place ( amongst other things)
Not sure how Peet ah and Lauren pay for their place. His never at work , but she works. Occasionally!

Shellingbynight · 17/01/2025 19:34

There are quite a few of them who seem to do very little work yet can afford to live in London!

I’ve heard other people mention the new set but I honestly haven’t noticed any difference.

I guess Stacey losing her pitch, and Martin, will lead to her exit. I didn’t realise she had already given birth 80s, she must leave very soon!

the80sweregreat · 17/01/2025 19:38

Cute photo of Lacey Turner and her three children on line. They are a lovely looking family.

Southeastdweller · 17/01/2025 22:18

Slightly drink on the way home now, I just went through Lacey’s insta and noticed that she does ads. So how come she and Steve McFadden can do other jobs yet Brian Conley wasn’t allowed to?

Brian and EastEnders producer maintain he simply left at the end of his contract.

I don't think the actors are banned from doing anything as long as it fits around their EastEnders schedule. Kellie did the sewing programme. Steve McF often does panto but didn't this year because Phil's needed, whereas Jamie has had a huge amount of time off for Strictly, and is also doing the Strictly tour.

Maybe there's a hierarchy and some actors are allowed to do other things but some aren't.

Yes Phil did panto this year! There's loads of clips going around on TikTok of him playing a cardboard guitar and miming to Livin on a Prayer 😀

I liked the Rocky character despite starting out as a low level Cotton con artist. He soon turned it around.
His relationship with Kathy was fun for a while.
I also liked Dotty too, she was feisty and had a different dress sense.

storminabuttercup · 18/01/2025 08:05

For me it's not just how they pay the rent it's how many rooms some of these houses must have

Suki's place has
Suki and Eve
Vinny
Nugget
Avani
Priya

Stacey's
Stacey
Lilly and baby charli
Arthur
Hope
Mo
Jean and Harvey

I've no idea where Freddie is meant to be living

The vic
Elaine and sometimes George
Linda (only room we really see)
Ollie
Annie
Johnny
Anna
Gina

These places must be massive

the80sweregreat · 18/01/2025 08:20

Where does Sharon live? Is she with Martin still ? Zac and Tommy too.?
Kat and Alfie and her boys were in a flat I think ?
It is vague sometimes and yes, lots of overcrowding in some houses.

Shellingbynight · 18/01/2025 08:21

Oh Phil did do panto this year? I bet he's really good. He's been on screen so much I didn't see how he could fit it in!

I think expecting chunks of time off when you've been there two years is a bit different from 'lifers' like Phil, Jay, Kellie.

But they let Freddie have half the year off last year... actually, shame he came back!

Re the living arrangements, soaps always cram an unfeasible amount of people into their houses!

Think Sharon and Martin live together Zac moved out to a flat with Whit and is still there

lazymum99 · 18/01/2025 09:36

Eastenders started in 1985 when the area was probably liveable in rent wise. The creators did not foresee the ‘gentrification’ of the area and the soaring property prices and rents but they were stuck with the soap being situated there.
it’s now completely unrealistic that most of these people could afford such nice flats or houses. They all look pretty newly done except Dots house which is more traditional.

usernother · 18/01/2025 09:58

Yes, I've seen them. So weird seeing him smiling and laughing.

dysonwithdeath · 18/01/2025 10:07

How much would UC help with rent for Stacey and her lot?

Where does Sharon get her endless pot of money and businesses?

Philth's money in the magic safe comes from criminal enterprise but we never really see or hear about this although it has been alluded to in the past.

Elaine has owned pubs for years so will have bought the Vic by trading in one pub for another. The flat above the Vic is part of the same property and cannot be separated - except by the door from the bar through which anyone and everyone can just go up. The only obstacle to this are boxes of crisps. Which can be eaten.

How can the pie shop make any money when it has so few customers and seats, none of which are filled.

Kathy's caff is busy with take away and sitting in customers and she has no mortgage as Nish gifted her the property - a likely story 🤔

I think in Walford the only way of having a reasonable living is crime or inheritance.

lazymum99 · 18/01/2025 10:12

UC looks at household income. Not sure how many people of working age are in the Stacey household. People keep coming and going. You are supposed to contribute to the rent if you’re living there and so your income is taken into account. However, they are in and out of jobs all the time. They would probably bring the whole UC system crashing down 😅

dysonwithdeath · 18/01/2025 10:14

Map shows Turpin Road and Bridge St. I always thought Stacey's Bap van was in Bridge St but apparently not. I don't see that there'd be much footfall in such an oddly placed market. Or how there'd be any space for parking that would justify closing businesses which pay rent and contribute to the local economy.

EastEnders: the SPOILERS thread!
the80sweregreat · 18/01/2025 10:16

George knight sold his Marbella bar and invested half into the Vic too.
( which could do with a new locked door to upstairs and cctv!)
Maybe once it's had its make over!
The Slaters do have extension to their place.

the80sweregreat · 18/01/2025 10:20

It's sometimes touched on with regards to money. Dee was up the food banks with Cora once ( who volunteered there for five minutes)
( Tanya's mum)
Generally we are meant to believe they ' get by' and many do have their own businessness.
Jean is a part time cleaner and Harvey is a cabbie.
They rely a lot on Stacey though , which will be hard if she loses that stall

lazymum99 · 18/01/2025 10:23

There is no way that a London street market would be closed for parking purposes. Redevelopment maybe but Sadiq khan has made having a car and parking in London incredibly difficult. New developments cannot even qualify for residents parking.
The writers must live in rural Scotland or something!

the80sweregreat · 18/01/2025 10:36

The parking situation is mad.
They have a station close by with links to the west end. The market is really only for the locals and not that big ( in comparison to Romford market or Petticoat lane etc)
The residents have resident parking permits already. Why do they need more parking. ?
Building flats in the garden area would make more sense. Redevelopment or something?

Shellingbynight · 18/01/2025 10:37

I agree, it makes absolutely no sense, you would think they could think of a better threat to the market than 'parking'.
