Yes! It's Musicals Week!

Will we also see an Egregious Elimination?

I wish they would just get rid of the rumba. Most of the celebs are bad at it, and it's usually dull. There's a reason it's the only dance to never have scored a 40.

They'll never get rid of it while they can always harp on about Shirley being "Queen of Rumba" yawn 🥱 maybe once she goes, it can go.

BogRollBOGOF · 02/12/2024 12:03

It really did feel like Montell had everything loaded against her this week. Death slot, dance style, song/ musical choice, beige outfit. It was all too understated for a dance off comeback against everyone else's razzamatazz.

AlexaSetATimer · 02/12/2024 12:03

HoopLaLah · 01/12/2024 20:08

Well, the result was predictable but I enjoyed Montell’s performance in the dance off more than Tash’s.

So did I. So much emotion from them both, as they knew they were going out.

I actually quite enjoyed Tasha's AT but the lighting and trousers weren't helpful!

BogRollBOGOF · 02/12/2024 12:06

Montell didn't lack musicality, performance, subtlety etc.

I got a bit garbled in my long post and can't edit.

GasPanic · 02/12/2024 12:08

I think the public love a trier.

For me it's not about how absolutely good they are. It's about how far they've come and their achievements.

I could never vote Tasha to win because I think some of the rest of them have come far further even if they are technically not as good, Chris, JB and Sarah in particular.

I think they need to be more careful in selecting contestants if they don't want these sorts of outcomes.

I'd like to see Chris Sarah and JB in the final, but not sure who out of those three I would want to win.

AsWithGlad · 02/12/2024 12:10

They have a reasonable idea of the celebrity’s dance ability when they start, but can also predict how good they will be 10 weeks in? I appreciate that the choreography can be adapted each week, but some pieces of music will be easier to dance to than others.

But there are always four in the final.

Oh for some reason I thought it was three and 2 went out next week.

Thanks for correcting me.

I think the judges are always going to pick the technical best irrespective of the background so Peter is going out automatically if he ends up in the dance off.

Edited

I don't think he'll be in the DO.
It'll be Tasha and Sarah IMO.

I guess the only good news if you don't want Pete to win is that as the competition progresses fewer competitors means that votes that weren't for him are far more likely to funnel to the survivors.

So he will find it a lot more difficult to win against 3 others than say 5 !

I don't have anything personally against Pete. I think he's tried hard and has some entertainment value, just that he isn't either technically the best or has progressed the furthest.

If he has enough fans out there to believe he has and vote for him fair play to him IMO.

...............and the legs just made me think of Kenny Everett

Yes, exactly!
In the best possible taste!

Thank you @MarkWithaC ! I knew the legs reminded me of something and that's exactly it! Tasha was right when she said spaghetti legs.

The Derek Hough/Mark Ballas AT posted on the videos thread shows that there's no need for loads of lifts for an amazing AT (looking at you Sarah and Tasha)

Totally agree with this, and I will extend this comment to include Charleston amd Salsa as well!

Sarah's Charleston was too lifty for me and I would have preferred to have seen more Charleston steps! A traditional Charleston doesn't contain lifts but it's only on Strictly that we see the speciality dances rammed with lifts and tricks, that we now expect them to include them.

Like exclamation marks in writing, they need to be used sparingly or they lose their impact, in my opinion!

xsquared · 02/12/2024 16:17

Its highly likely that Pete and Jowita will be doing the Argentine Tango this week as he's just posted a selfie with Leandro and Maria.

Hmm, the last time Jowita did an Argentine Tango was with Hamza and that was rubbish even though he was a significantly better dancer than Pete. I suspect it will be a "pure filth" one though, so Shirley will simpering and giggle over this and give it at least an 8.

I hope JB and Lauren do an AT too, I expect he will absolutely smash it!

TennisWithDeborah · 02/12/2024 16:39

I think that Pete and Jowita will suit an Argentine Tango. It could go their way on Saturday.

I hope that Vito tones down the throwing about this week. I’m a bit tired of the Kenny Everett stuff even though I like Sarah and want her in the final.

Mymanyellow · 02/12/2024 16:55

If Sarah and Vito are doing a jive and a tango there shouldn’t be too many lifts I don’t think. No lifts in a tango don’t think there’s any in a jive , although we may have some sort of acrobatics.

Pashazade · 02/12/2024 18:27

It would be nice to see Sarah actually dance, she hasn't really done that since Movie week and their lovely waltz.

dapsnotplimsolls · 02/12/2024 18:51

I agree, I'd love to see her earth-bound for a whole dance!

FagsMagsandBags · 02/12/2024 20:32

I was relieved when I heard Sarah had a tango because no bloody lifts.

I can't imagine Pete pulling off a decent AT. It's not an easy dance and it's not enough to be sexy, you have to have the tension, the reaction, the legs that do what they're supposed to do. As we've seen from dancers who are actually good, the AT is not an easy one to pull off. They will have to really simplify it to give him even a chance of looking half decent on the dance floor.

dapsnotplimsolls · 02/12/2024 20:57

If I were Jowita, I'd be pretty nervous about his kicks!

He will definitely struggle with the precision of the leg work!

To be honest, giving Pete the Argentine Tango is a bit like giving a grade 1 piano pupil Chopin to play. He has improved beyond week 4, as Shirley said but he doesn't have strong enough base or leg and foot discipline to do justice to the Argentine Tango.

I may be pleasantly surprised a d proved wrong on the night though.

TheShellBeach · 02/12/2024 21:58

I think that Jowita will be able to make an AT with Pete look quite good.
If she does a good deal of fancy legwork, people might not notice Pete's deficiencies.

OP posts:
AlexaSetATimer · 02/12/2024 22:24

Am wondering if the producers will ignore the actual voting results and make sure Pete is named in the DO this week, just to avoid the chance of him winning the final vote and the Glitterball?
I wonder if they've ever chucked a popular duffer in the DO before just to get rid?

AlexaSetATimer · 02/12/2024 22:25

chucked in Semi final DO that should have said.

TheShellBeach · 02/12/2024 22:28

That wouldn't surprise me.
They skew everything else to suit themselves.

She won't be doing the choreography but it's probable that it will be choreographed to show her off and have him doing as little as possible but that will show up. We always notice if a pro is doing all the dancing and the celeb is pretty much standing still or doing a bit of walking. Even if she is doing most of the work he is going to have to be her resistance and hold himself in such a way that she can dance around him without toppling over. It's not an easy dance and week four or just beyond - I'd say week four was kind for the weekend's waltz - is really not up to what it demands of a dancer.

Happy to be proved wrong but I don't think I will be. If JB does a AT as well it will really show up Pete's lack of skill.
