The BBC is a fantastically creative organisation and one that helps define Britain globally. I started listening to Radio 4 when I was in sixth form. It has been the soundtrack of my adult life. I don't understand the vitriol it attracts from some quarters.
However, I feel my sympathy for it dwindling over its apparent inability to deal with the behaviour of so-called top talent over a period of decades. Jimmy Saville, Gregg Wallace, Russell Brand, Wynne Griffiths, Huw Edwards. Why all the pussy-footing about? All their contracts must have had a clause about dismissal for bringing the organisation into disrepute. This, combined with a whistle-blowing policy people trust, a zero tolerance approach, quick investigations by a third party. The BBC could have been a leader in modelling how a creative organisation manages out-of-control behaviour, and spared so many (mostly women) from sights few of us wish to see - Gregg Wallace with a sock on his penis, Russell Brand running around the office with his trousers down.
All of this and the gaza documentary. It's going to be the week from hell for Tim Davie.
