The scriptwriters had a good opportunity to portray how abused women are ground down, gaslighted to the point of not believing themselves at all, can get to the lowest point in their lives but do climb back up again. They become strong because they bloody have to to survive. They could have shown Belle becoming strong enough to stand up in court against Tom and instead they just seem to want to portray abuser gets away with it and treats it all as a smug joke to boot.
Really disappointed in the writing. Hardly encourages any woman in a coercive relationship in real life to fight their way out.

Me too @Allthehorsesintheworld . If Tom gets away with this and is back swanning around the village like cock of the walk, I think the time will have come for me to stop watching. Let's face it there aren't any other remotely interesting storylines around apart from Ruby's but they'll probably make a hash of that like they do with everything else.

I think we’ll have 1 episode worth of Belle to-ing and fro-ing stretched over 4 nights including the interminable hour episode tomorrow. Eventually, by which time our collective eyes will ache from all the rolling, Belle will ‘do the right thing’ and go to court. Tom will have a toddler tantrum and all hell will break loose. Then Cain will rock up with a sawn off shotgun that was laying around in the barn and shoot toddler Tom. We will all sink to our knees in collective gratitude and worship Cain for ever more. The end.

Sounds like a great scenario @Middlemarch123 as long as we see the final view of Tom's great hand acting as he's gunned down 🤣

Don’t worry @RaraRachael , there will be a final lingering close up shot of Tom’s hands flaying around then twitching, then still as he lays on the ground. The camera will slowly pan away to reveal Cain scowling over Tom’s lifeless body.
