Series 2 is confirmed to start Sunday 10th November.

Almost 10 years after the first series, I'm excited to see the third and final novel brought to life.

Stephen Graham?

Exactly who I thought of.

WhitegreeNcandle · 15/12/2024 20:55

They should follow Rafe Sadlers story and have Rylance chat to him as Wolsey chatted to Cromwell.

I've just watched it. I agree it would be great to see the story continued with the same cast, but since it has all been shown from Cromwell's point of view, I'm not sure how they could do it.

Maybe Cromwell could be a ghost appearing to Henry, in the same way Wolsey did this series?

(Joking)

I like that: I've just been reading about Sadler, he had quite a career.

I'm afraid to watch episode 6, are you guys saying the botched execution isn't featured?

Maybe I can gird my lions and watch it?

I've just watched the last episode. I think it was a fitting and poignant ending, thank goodness they didn't show the botched execution. However I think the first part of the final episode is quite slow.

I'm sad it's over and wish there was a way they could continue the story with what happened next ie. Catherine Howard, with the same actors and production. But alas, Cromwell's story is done.

quite slow? Were you watching the same episode?

CaveMum · 15/12/2024 22:00

Blubbing here 😭😭😭

3kidsaremorethanenough · 15/12/2024 22:02

Tears are blinding me. Poor Rafe 😭 a fantastic series. Time to let Cromwell go now 🥲

LuluBlakey1 · 15/12/2024 22:02

I have cried several times in this series. Mary Rylance's performance was astonishing.
There was an opportunity to 'over-play' the end for 'shock-value'. They didn't and it was all the more powerful for that.

Talesfromtheriverbank · 15/12/2024 22:03

It was so good. Sad it’s all over.

I had thought he retired out of service? Did he continue to serve Henry?

Blubbing here 😭😭😭

So sad!

Did Cromwell really harbour hopes that Henry would pardon him?

Surely he knew, having seen the same thing play out so many times, most notably with Anne Boleyn, that that wasn't Henry's style? As he said at one point, once the King turns his face away from you, he seldom turns it back.

TheMoonismadeofcheese · 15/12/2024 22:04

Brilliant series and so glad the end was as it was. Very sad and powerful.

Sausagenbacon · 15/12/2024 22:04

What a well made ending.

frugalkitty · 15/12/2024 22:04

The ending was so poignant. Beautifully done.

Fatfreefatball · 15/12/2024 22:04

@CaveMum me too! Such a poignant ending and just shows the power of Mark Rylance's incredible acting. Feel bereft the series has finished and like I've lost a friend, which is quite bizarre!

There is some dispute about the execution being botched. It wasn’t universally reported in that way.

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 15/12/2024 22:05

Im crying like a baby. Loved Wolsey watching
in the crowd and ‘forgiving’ him. That being said, I would have liked a “so now you get up” flashback 😭

WhoPutTheBomp · 15/12/2024 22:08

Another one asking, is it safe to watch if you can't do gory. I could cope with Anne Boleyn because it showed nothing more than the stockinged feet, the sing of the sword and the gathering-up by the ladies. Is it similar, please? (sorry to be a baby)

TimeAndTideAndButteredEggsWaitForNoMan · 15/12/2024 22:09

I was very nervous about how they would end it, and I think it was great. That held in, emotional restraint that Cromwell had all through was appropriately the tone at the very end. Great series.

Even less - no gore at all. Do watch.

SwedishEdith · 15/12/2024 22:10

I'm going to miss this on Sunday night. Onr thing though, did they really still wear such heavy clothing in summer? This was June, wasn't it?

BestIsWest · 15/12/2024 22:13

I blubbed too. What an ending. I mean, you knew it was coming but still. Loved Wolseys face in the crowd.

Just a shout out to the younger cast too. Sadler and Wriothesley were both played so well. I thought the last scenes with Sadler were very moving.

Not gory @WhoPutTheBomp at all.

Sausagenbacon · 15/12/2024 22:13

Really pernickety point (as I said, I thought tc's downfall was handled very well) but surely he would have removed the fur lined jacket, so that it wouldn't impede the axe?

NeedWineNow · 15/12/2024 22:14

I think I may have a bit of dust in my eye 😥

What an amazing series, beautifully shot, with wonderful costumes and the most amazing performances particularly from Mark Rylance and Damian Lewis. The understated and poignant playing of the final episode was so good. I feel really sad that it is over.
